    Sylvester Taylor "Invictus" Hospitality Scholarship
I have always been someone who finds joy in helping others and making them feel safe, seen, and supported. Whether it's offering a listening ear, lending a hand, or simply being present, I genuinely love being there for everyone and anyone who needs me. This natural desire to care for others is what drives my passion for hospitality. I envision using this passion to make a lasting, positive impact on the world by creating welcoming spaces within communities, places where people feel comforted, understood, and never alone. I want to be someone others look forward to seeing, someone they can count on to offer solutions, support, and kindness no matter the circumstance. In the hospitality industry, my goal is to build environments that foster warmth and security, places that not only meet people's needs but also uplift their spirits. Through this work, I hope to create a ripple effect of compassion and connection that reaches far beyond the front desk or dining room. I want people to understand that someone is there for them and their needs. I know this could create a positive impact in the world because it could make people feel better when they go out or when they stay at hotels. Knowing someone is always on your side and wants the best for you is something everybody needs and wants. The hospitality industry itself makes you feel like you have a home away from home and a people who are there for you. That is how I envision my passion making a positive impact on the world and that is also how I want people to feel. I also want people to understand that you can make a difference. It does not always have to start off as something big, in time it will become something big. That is what I believe will happen for me.

An important experience that happened in my life was graduating high school. It was a major accomplishment for me because, at one point, I honestly didn’t think I would make it. In my last year of high school, I decided to challenge myself by taking a college algebra class, but it quickly became overwhelming. No matter how much I studied for the tests or tried to understand the material, something strange would happen during the exams I would blank out and forget everything I had learned. It was extremely discouraging. I spent many nights crying and feeling frustrated because it seemed like no matter how hard I worked, I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted. Still, I never gave up. Deep down, I believed I could do it, and I kept pushing through even when it felt impossible. Eventually, when it came time for the final exam, I finally passed. That feeling was incredible, but an even better feeling was walking across the stage on graduation day and receiving my diploma. I felt proud, relieved, and stronger than ever. This experience has shaped how I see myself because it taught me the importance of perseverance and also showed me that putting too much pressure on myself can sometimes work against me. I learned that it’s okay to struggle and that success doesn’t always come easily or right away. As for how it shaped my understanding of the world, it helped me realize that failure is simply a part of life. Everyone faces obstacles, and not every effort will end perfectly, but that doesn’t mean you stop trying. When it comes to how this experience shaped my community, I’m honestly not sure it had much of an impact. I was never the type of person who was deeply involved with my neighbors or community events. However, on a personal level, it made me want to encourage others who might be struggling too, and to remind them that even when things seem impossible, they can still succeed if they stay determined. Even though I was not a committed community member, I still believe my story and experience could help someone who is also going through similar things. If not then it could be an example for people to tell to others when they feeling like they can't do something. Whatever my experience and story is used for, I know that it will help whoever needs it and that makes me happy.

Something about me that everyone should know is that I am very family oriented. They are my reasons for getting my degree. My parents and siblings play a big part of my life. They are my inspiration and they are the reasons to fight in my life. I will be honest and say that I have no clue what the essay prompt is. However, here goes nothing. My name is Sarah Alberry and this is me. I was raised by a single mother until I was 8 years old. She met my stepdad and he raised me as his own. Through the years I have learned the sacrifices my mom has made to make sure I was taken care of. She is the reason I go to school. I want to one day get a job I love and make enough money to give back everything she has given me. This is the reason I am applying for this scholarship. I have 5 siblings so money is always tight but we make it through. When it comes to providing for college, I mainly try to get financial aid but sometimes it is not enough. I also work to support my education and help my parents when needed. I want to one day give my mom all the things she has given me without hesitation. She is a wonderful lady and without her, I wouldn’t be here today. She is my inspiration for everything. She has shown me what it looks like to be a better woman and human being. When it comes to explaining who I am and what I want in life. It is very simple. I am someone who believes she can achieve the things of her dreams, which are to provide my mother with everything she could ever want in life and to give my siblings something to be proud of. They will always know that their sister is doing everything she can so they can have everything as well. If I win this scholarship then I don’t have to worry about paying for college and having to worry my family. I will be able to get my degree and do right by my family. One day I hope to have my own family and teach them about the way family should be. I also wish to be able to look back at my life and see that I did everything to help out my family. I would like to thank you for reading my essay and I hope you have an amazing day or night whichever one you are in. As for how I would make a positive impact on my community, well I would love to teach kids about the hospitality industry and about the opportunities they could have.

For as long as I can remember, my mom has always been there for me, by my side, protecting me, and doing whatever it took to make sure I was okay. She was a single mother until I was 8 years old, and those years were filled with her endless love, hard work, and dedication to me. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to realize just how much my mom sacrificed to make sure I had everything I needed. She never complained, even when things got tough. She always put me first and made sure I knew how much my future meant to her. I’ve seen how important my success has always been to her, and how my achievements, big or small, bring her so much joy and pride. My mom has always told me that I can be as successful as I want to be, as long as I put in the work and truly believe in myself. Those words have stuck with me, and they push me every day. The reason I go to school, the reason I’m working so hard to achieve my goals, is because I want to make her proud. I want to get to a place in life where I not only have a career that I love but can also make enough to give back everything she’s given me. I owe her everything, and I won’t stop until I’ve done everything I can to show her how much I appreciate all of her sacrifices and love. As for how I would use these funds to build my future, well I want to be able to finish school and get a career doing something that I love. I want to be able to have enough money to not only support myself but give my mother everything she has ever wanted and more. Like I said before she is the reason I work so hard in school. I want her to know that the sacrifices that she made were not for nothing. I want to one be able to tell her that I got her and that she does not have to worry about anything. This is why I am applying to this scholarship. I want to be able to finish college and walk across the stage knowing that I made my mother proud. I want to be able to say one day that I not only got my degree for myself but also for my mother.
    Future Planner Scholarship
My name is Sarah Alberry and this is me. I was raised by a single mother until I was 8 years old. She met my stepdad and he raised me as his own. Through the years I have learned the sacrifices my mom has made to make sure I was taken care of. She is the reason I go to school. I want to one day get a job I love and make enough money to give back everything she has given me. This is the reason I am applying for this scholarship. As for how I plan to make a positive impact on the world using my skills as a project leader, my focus is on helping others succeed in doing what they love. I want to lead with both a kind, supportive touch and a strong, determined willpower. My goal is to guide people in discovering their paths to success, while helping them find new opportunities and ways of achieving their dreams that they might not have considered before. I believe in the power of mentorship and empowering others to reach their full potential. While I may not be incredibly passionate about event planning right now, I am planning to take some courses next semester at my university to explore it further. What excites me about event planning is the ability to help people bring their dreams to life. Although it's not often talked about in the hospitality industry, I think it’s such a unique and fulfilling way to create experiences for others. I’m curious to see what event planning truly entails and how I can contribute to giving people something special to look forward to, or a memorable experience they can cherish forever. Ultimately, I want to see how I can blend my skills and passions to make a lasting impact in the world. This is why I would love to win this scholarship. It would be such a huge help in covering my tuition and would give me the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of event planning. I’m excited to see firsthand how it works, from the planning stages all the way to execution. Beyond just the logistics, I’m really interested in learning how event planning can impact the people involved, from the planners themselves to the guests who experience the event. I think there’s so much value in understanding how to create memorable moments for others, and this scholarship would give me the chance to explore that in a more meaningful way. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application. I truly hope I’ve been able to provide the right amount of information to answer your questions. I’m eager to continue growing and learning, and I’d be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to use this scholarship to further my education and my passion for helping others succeed.

    Ella's Gift
This scholarship asks for real-life experience with how alcohol or drugs have changed or affected my life. Personally, I’ve never used drugs or alcohol myself, but I’ve seen the impact they can have through close family members who struggled with them. Growing up, they were a big part of my life, and I witnessed firsthand the challenges and pain that addiction can bring. While I didn’t face those struggles directly, their experiences have shaped my understanding of how substance abuse can affect not only the individual but also the people around them. When I was a little kid, I experienced firsthand how alcohol can really change a person’s behavior. I remember one time at my biological dad’s house, my uncle was there, drinking beer. By the time I arrived, it looked like he had already downed three bottles, and he still wasn’t stopping. I watched as he kept going, and by the time he hit his seventh bottle, he seemed like a completely different person. His mood shifted, his energy changed, and it was honestly a little unsettling to see how much alcohol could alter who someone is in just a short amount of time. His drinking became a habit that I got used to seeing, and it was something I witnessed regularly. But I think that once he realized how much it was affecting his son’s life, he wanted to change. Fast forward a couple of years, and I go back to my dad’s house. I see my uncle there, but this time he’s drinking water. I finally built up the courage to talk to him about it, and what he told me that day is something I’ll never forget. He told me, "I never really saw a problem with my drinking until my little boy came up to me one day and asked, 'Why are you always so mean? Why do I always find you passed out in the bathroom?' It hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn’t realize how bad things had gotten until I saw the sadness in his eyes. That’s when I knew I couldn’t keep doing this. I couldn’t keep hurting him like that." My uncle went on to explain that after that moment, he checked himself into a rehab clinic and committed to going through the steps to get better. To this day, he still goes to meetings and stays away from alcohol so he can be the kind of father his son deserves, and a better person for himself too. This experience has shaped who I am. This has taught me to recognize the signs that indicate when someone has had too much to drink, which is a valuable skill in social situations. I’ve also learned what not to do when someone is drunk—like avoiding confrontation or judgment—and how I can help them in a caring and supportive way. Whether it’s making sure they stay safe or guiding them home, I now approach these situations with a sense of responsibility and empathy. All I can say is that it can be incredibly hard to watch someone you love slowly destroy themselves, knowing how it affects not only them but also the people around them. It’s painful to witness the struggle, especially when you care so deeply for that person. I am genuinely grateful that the people I love have sought help and found a path to recovery; it has given them a new understanding of life and brought a renewed sense of hope. While I know that not everyone is fortunate enough to have the same support or opportunities for healing, I feel incredibly thankful for the progress they’ve made. It’s a reminder of how important it is to reach out and support one another in times of need.
Jorian Kuran Harris (Shugg) Helping Heart Foundation Scholarship
My name is Sarah Alberry, and this scholarship would be such a huge help in funding the rest of my education at the University of Houston. Coming from a family of nine, and being the second oldest, means money is always tight. I’ve always been driven to make sure I could support myself, but even more importantly, I want to be able to give back to my mom, who’s done so much for us. That’s one of my main reasons for pursuing a degree in Hospitality—I want a career that not only makes me proud but also allows me to take care of her the way she deserves. The hospitality industry is something I’m truly passionate about. There’s so much joy in helping people, whether it’s finding them the perfect travel destination or creating an unforgettable customer experience. I can see myself thriving in this industry, and I’m excited about the possibility of making a real difference. Who knows—maybe one day I’ll even have a chance to help shape it in a way that brings even more positivity to the world. While this degree is a long-term goal, my biggest dream is being able to tell my mom, 'I've got you now—you don’t have to worry about a thing.' That’s the kind of success I’m working toward. Growing up, I was always a sensitive kid, and one of the toughest emotional moments I faced was when my biological father told me he wasn’t going to see me for a while. He had always said our relationship was a top priority for him, so hearing him give that up hurt deeply. That pain stayed with me, but instead of letting it hold me back, I used it to fuel my ambition. I finished high school and went on to college. I reminded myself that if he really wanted to be there to watch me succeed, he would be—but I chose to keep moving forward, even without him. This is an example of how I have over come emotional pain but I have also overcome physical pain as well. When I was in 8th grade I had an assist on my right ovary and it burst which caused me a lot of physical pain. I was able to have surgery but they told me I had another one on my left but it was too small to take out. I was also told that I could have kids but something could happen if the assist does not go away or if it grows any bigger. I took this information and knew that I would live my life with no regrets and to live it to the fullest. I took the pain I felt and ran with it. I made sure to get A's and B's . I also made sure to finish high school and go to college.
    Andre' Burchelle Roach Scholarship
My name is Sarah Alberry and this scholarship would help me finance the rest of my education at University of houston. I come from a family of 9 and I'm the second oldest child, so money is pretty tight. I want to be able to graduate college with a degree in Hospitality so I can get a job that will pay me enough so I can give back to my mother. I'm passionate about the Hospitality Industry because there is so much joy in this industry. From being able to help people find a travel destination that they love to being able to give them a customer experience they will never forget. This industry is something I would be around to work in and maybe one be able to change it so that it can help the world a little more. As for the beauty industry, I am not familiar with it but I do know that society needs a change when it comes to beauty standers. No one should be put down based off thier looks and no one has the right to hurt other people's feelings. The world of beauty is supposed to be a magical place. It's supposed to be filled with happiness and smiles because everyone in thier own way is beautiful. The industry needs to let people know that. Let people know that no matter what you look like or how you do your makeup, you are beautiful in your own way. No amount of makeup can fix something that is not a problem. If I was in the beauty industry, I would try to start with stores and try to get people to understand that the stores they shop at are behind them. I would also make sure everyone is welcome into stores. No matter race, shape, color or gender. Everyone matters and everyone belongs. The beauty industry should make people feel like they matter and if I was in that industry then that is what I would do. However, I'm not in that industry and hope that one day that industry will fix the problems in it. I might even be able to help from my industry depending on the job I am hired in once I graduate. No matter what job I get I want to be able to help the world as well as give back to the people who took care of me and supported me through it all. This scholarship would help me achieve all of this is more.
    David Hinsdale Memorial Scholarship
Let me begin by introducing myself and sharing a bit about who I am. My name is Sarah, and I'm just a girl with big dreams of earning my degree and, ultimately, being able to give back to the person who has given me so much—my mother. A little about my background: I was raised by a single mom until I was 8 years old. Then she met my stepdad, who lovingly stepped in and raised me as if I were his own. Growing up in a household of six kids, I found that college was not just an opportunity for me to escape the noise and chaos, but it was also a step toward achieving a lifelong dream. I have always imagined the day when I can tell my mom she no longer needs to work and that I will take care of her, just like she’s always done for me. More than anything, I want to earn my degree, find a job that brings me happiness, and use that success to support the people I love, especially my mom. As for how I could make a positive impact on my community, I believe there are several meaningful ways I can contribute, starting with something I have always been passionate about—helping and supporting children. One simple but impactful way is by reading to the children in my community, fostering a love for stories and learning. Additionally, I can offer my time and knowledge to help kids with their homework, guiding them through subjects they might find challenging. I truly believe the next generation holds the potential to create significant change in the world, and what better way to support that future than by being present, offering encouragement, and helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to succeed? Whether it's by explaining a difficult concept or simply being there to listen, I know I can make a difference by investing in the youth and empowering them to thrive. These things that I have told you are the same things I tell myself everyday. I know in my heart that my goal in life is to take care of my mom and to help those who need it. It may be silly to chose reading to kids as a positive impact on my community but to me its not. Being able to give kids the feeling of someone being there like I have felt with my mom is something truly magical. So thank you for letting me tell you about myself and how I can make a positive impact on my community.
    Arlin Diaz Memorial Scholarship
I chose to write about the second topic. This scholarship could help me out a lot because I come from a house of 5 siblings and 2 of them are also going to college. My parents aren't able to help me out and I do work so that I can save some money but it is still not enough. I also don't really like asking my parents for money even if they had it. I want to work for it and be able to tell them that I earned this money. Something about me is I take pride in family and the bond I have with my family. My parents and siblings play a big part of my life. They are my inspiration and they are the reasons to fight in my life. They are the reason I want to be able to show you that I can honor Arlin's memory and legacy as a recipient of this scholarship. I want to be able to help give back once I get my degree. My whole life my mother has sacrificed for me and I intend to do the same thing for her once I achieve my degree but she is not the only one I plan to do that for. I also plan to get more informed on Arlin and how things were. I plan to help other people, may it be by donating money or just helping someone who has it out in life. Another thing I would like to share is that I plan to give back to the community not only because of this scholarship but also because people need to know that someone has there back. I want to be able to help people out and give them a reason to smile. That is why I chose my degree. The degree I chose is Hospitality. I chose this because I want to put a smile on people's face and help them realize that is ok to not be ok and that someone is looking out for them. Being able to interact with people and help solve their problems is something I enjoy more than anything. I want to be the reason that people have a good day and go home happy. I'm so excited to start at University of Houston because I will learn how I can solve problems before they become one. This scholarship is something that can help me make that happen. I hope that by reading all of this you are able to determine that I really want to earn this scholarship and I want to do good with it. I thank you for your time and I hope that I hear back from you soon. I also want to thank you for letting me share with you who I am and how I would love to honor Arlin and her legacy. I hope to hear from you soon. I hope you have an amazing day or night, which ever you read this in.

    WCEJ Thornton Foundation Low-Income Scholarship
My greatest achievement to date would probably be my first ever a b honor roll. That would probably be my greatest achievement because it was the first time that I realized that I could do doing more with myself. I had received that award after working so hard in class and I just received it in about I think 4th grade that was the year after its French word into a gifted program. It has shaped me into the person I am today because it is taught me the value of work and how hard it is to do the work but how you would feel after. It is taught me that no matter where you come from or what you're doing being able to receive such a good achievements and doing the work for it makes it so much better. In the future I hope to receive many more of the word but also to receive an A on a reward because I believe that I will be able to push myself. And as far as I know receiving these Awards will make me even happier because I know that I worked hard by myself to get them.

My motivation is my mom because she makes me belive that I can do anything. She is the reason I work hard and try to do everything I can to help her out. My mom always tells me that nothing is as bad as it seems. To keep my head up and push forward so I do. She is my motivation.
    Bold Creativity Scholarship
Creativity is applied to life daily. From the books you read to the art you see, but in my life it is the books I  read and the food I cook. I'm in culinary arts so I cook a lot of different food. That means I have to be creative with the food I make and how I present it. That also goes with the books I read. I read romantic novels. They are creative and make me feel something every time I read something new. That is what creativity is. It makes u smile, laugh or even sad but it's mainly based on the way you view creativity.
    Dog Lover Scholarship
Why I love dogs? Well it's simple they make you smile and laugh when you feel like there is something wrong with the world. A dog is a companion that makes me feel better and helps you through the problems your facing. Having a dog is like having a best friend, they make you feel safe and loved. That is probably why they are called a man's best friend. I however am female but that doesn't mean I don't love my dog unconditionally. My dogs name is Bear and I love him more then life itself. He is my best friend. He makes me smile and laugh like no human has. He is smarter then anyone knows.  He makes me love dogs everyday. Now that is why I love dogs. Now for the positive impacts, well having a best friend with you everyday is one.  There's also knowing that you are coming home to someone who loves you and wants you. Those are just some positive impacts but there are more.

Having a parent give up everything for you is more then amazing. My mom was a single parent most of my life. It was hard to see her struggle but she did so I could have a good life. She taught me to never take things for granted and to appreciate the little things you have. My mother dropped out of college to take care of me so I choose to go to college so I can give back to her. I also want to give back to the community of single parents everywhere. I want to help their kids give back to them. However, I want to first start by giving back to the women who sacrificed everything for me to have a good education. I am going to graduate high school with A's and Bs. I got accepted into Lamar and SFA. I am going to work hard to give back to her for all she has done for me.

The most inspiring book I have read would have to be Midnight Sun by Trish Cook. It is the most inspiring book because it talks about a girl who is looking for love but she has a rare disease that doesn't let her go in the sun. She is only allowed to go out at night and when she did one night she met her boy that changed her world. Now many ask why this is inspiring, well as she has this disease she was still able to finish high school as well has some college credit but that's not the only reason it inspired me. The other reason is she was able to find love with someone without being looked at as a disease. The girls names was Katie Price and she fell in love with someone who made feel more inspired than anything in the world as well as inspired him to branch out and be more of himself. It however was cut short because she was in the sun and got really sick but before she died she was able to do her last dream and that was to perform a song.
