Bio

Soon I will reach one of many life goals, my undergrad degree by December 2023. After that, I would love to continue with another life goal, my graduate degree. Yet, the tuition cost alone puts a great weight on my shoulders to pursue such an achievement. I have come this far and would love nothing more than to finish what I started, an education, being the first generation in my family, and doing this for those who did not have a chance, like my father and son. Two loves in my life who fought to live and explore this world of humanity. May their spirit be my internal strength and guidance to see through finishing my life goals. I do this for them and others who did not have a complete chance in life.

Greetings, I am the first generation in my family; mom, dad, brother, and sister to pursue a college degree. In Spring ‘21, I graduated with an AAS degree in business administration from Dallas College. My graduation experience was a blissful moment, I wished I could have shared it with my father and my son. My angels in heaven. Post-graduation, I loved the graduation experience so much that I decided to pursue an AS degree in liberal arts. Thereafter, I attended Dallas College to complete a third degree in AAS management in December 2022. Of my accomplishments obtained from ‘21 and ‘22; I have earned three AAS/AS degrees and three certificates (human resources assistant, supervisor, and management) and a leadership award. It has taken me several decades to realize my passion to further my education. A mindset to understand what is required in the real world to advance in business and/or corporation with a college degree. In 2020, I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa. It was an amazing honor to receive such recognition for my good grades. With that said, my good grades and accomplishments have weighed for me to continue an education in pursuit of a BAAS degree with a sub-degree in business occupations at the University of Texas at Tyler. I am on target to complete my courses and graduate in December 2023. I have also connected with my advisor for guidance to pursue my graduate degree at UTTyler. My concern is paying for the tuition. In past years, I have volunteered to Hope’s Door and Minnie’s Pantry. Both organizations brought the realization of sufferings for persons and families involved in abuse and hunger. Of these organizations individuals and their families were able to find comfort, support, and consulting; a humble experience I witnessed in assisting both organizations for people in need of help. With my business occupations degree, I have a strong belief to assist people in non-profit organizations and support centers, along with understanding the business world in a corporation and organization. Although, I am no different from other students attending college for a better education who would love nothing more than to be debt-free from college tuition and loans. Most importantly, able to sleep without worries about paying tuition. I shared before, I am the first generation to graduate from college. My mother and father did not complete high school. My sister and brother completed high school but did not pursue a college education. I waited decades before returning to college. I never knew my true meaning of returning to school until I realized, I am not only doing this for myself, I am doing this for those who couldn't complete it themselves; my parents, my siblings and my son. I am pursuing my impossible by making it possible. I am grateful to the professors at Dallas College and UTTyler for their motivation and perseverance in believing in me and their passion to learn. Thank you for your time and consideration. Kindly and very respectfully, San Juana Figueroa

I am maintaining a 4.0 GPA at UTTyler and continue to apply for scholarships with no success of receiving financial assistance beyond my own. FAFSA is helping, yet it is a student loan I will have to repay after graduation. Like most students, I would love to graduate debt-free as I did post-graduation at Dallas College. At the time of attending Dallas College I was working full time and able to pay my own way. Although, UTTyler is a different scale for tuition cost and I am considering in pursuing my graduate degree. The best advice given to me has been apply for as many scholarships; fortunately, I have but no scholarships have been awarded. My employment has been a struggle as a contingent worker, some assignments are three months others more than six months. Whichever the length of the assignment I set funds aside to prepare me to repay the student loan from FAFSA. But what-if someday a scholarship is awarded and my college debts are paid in full before graduation for obtaining my undergrad and graduate degrees. That would be an amazing award received by contributors and or sponsors who acknowledge students for their achievements in college. If only... My father was a Vietnam Vet, who received a Purple Heart for his injury. He suffered from PTSD, which was quite worry-some for me and my sister as we witnessed moments of this occurrence. My father never completed high school, but it was his dream to see his children complete high school and advance afterward, which is why after decades I decided to return the college. Post-graduation, I loved the graduation experience so much that I decided to pursue an AS degree in liberal arts. Thereafter, I attended Dallas College to complete a third degree in AAS management in December 2022. Greetings, My mental health has exploded in my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations on many levels. For instance, upon entering high school, I had no mentors or role models to look up to for advice or guidance. I had no direction for what I was to do after high school. My beliefs in faith and people were also minimum. My career aspirations did not follow until decades later, post-high school. I only wished I had someone to guide me through life at the start of my young adulthood. I am a first-generation college student in my family. My father, mother, and two siblings did not complete college. For that matter, my parents did not finish high school. Although my siblings, along with I, did reach high school graduation. After high school, I had no direction for what was next. I had an idea of joining the military. However, my father did not want me to do so, given I am a female and he would be more concerned about my time in the military base versus any pertinent danger with foreign and enemy lines. Interesting that my father, who is no longer with me, would be more concerned about my well-being in the military versus the business career life. Business career life is very concerning as it weighs gender disparity for women and the LGBT. Texas is no exception to disparting. I would love to encourage first-generation students to continue forth with their education. Find a mentor or school counselor to guide them through the process in college. As shared before, I had no direction other than going to the military, which I did not do out of respect for my father. Instead, I faced the workforce post-high school graduation. I had no mentor or school counselor to advise me differently. The workforce was harsh and fast. Every day was a challenge I was unprepared for due to a lack of education and experience. Fast-forward a few decades, I have gained core skills and professional work experiences, where I have also added and advanced to going back to college. By December 2023, I will graduate with my business administration undergrad degree. And I am confident to continue my education by pursuing my MBA; however, the tuition cost is my significant concern. I would like to see my journey through and be an inspirational leader to others who have self-doubt about their decision post-high-school. Thank you and very respectfully!

Greetings, My personal wellness has exploded in my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations on many levels. For instance, upon entering high school, I had no mentors or role models to look up to for advice or guidance. I had no direction for what I was to do after high school. My beliefs in faith and people were also minimum. My career aspirations did not follow until decades later, post-high school graduation. However, I try my best to maintain personal wellness by listening to soft, relaxing music, or going out for a run or bike cycle. Either of these inspires me with a clear mind and perform better. I only wished I had someone to guide me through life at the start of my young adulthood. I am a first-generation college student in my family. Greetings, At a young age, I suffered from mental illness while pregnant. I admit here, I attempted to harm myself with sleeping pills. I recovered after being rushed to the hospital, and my unborn baby boy also survived as I was two months. Yet, two months later, I lost my son due to other health issues. My family and friends helped me cope with my loss. But I never stopped doubting myself was the loss due to harming myself earlier in my pregnancy. I had to move on and focus on a better future, especially if my son had lived on. I often think about what would my son be doing, attending college or volunteering in military service. He would have been the first generation to graduate from college. Instead, it is I who is attending college on his behalf. I am doing this for those who did not have a chance to further themselves in life. I am a first-generation college student in my family. My father, mother, and two siblings did not complete college. Greetings, I was inspired by reading, What Got You Here Won't Get You There, by author Marshall Goldsmith. The text provided insightful information about the real world in business and interpersonal relationships. Those with high egos can crumble down based on their inner demoralizing traits. We all look for the better good and advancement in our daily lives personal and business. I wish to add more about myself, my family, and my goals in life. My education has been a long-time goal. Greetings, Recovery meaning for me is recovery from illness. I am a first-generation college student in my family. My father, mother, and two siblings did not complete college. Although, he would be more concerned about my well-being in the military versus the business career life. Yet, I was able to move on, do the best I can in my life by returning to school, and soon will be graduating with my undergrad. Oh how I wish my father was here to see me through this accomplishment in my life. Thank you in advance.

As shared before, I had no direction other than going to the military, which I did not do out of respect for my father. Instead, I faced the workforce post-high school graduation. I had no mentor or school counselor to advise me differently. The workforce was harsh and very fast. Every day was a challenge that I was unprepared due to a lack of education and experience. If I could go back in time, a continued education would have been my direction. I believe my career opportunities would have advanced into a manager role. Fast-forward a few decades, I have gained core skills and professional work experiences, where I have also added and advanced to going back to college. Just maybe, I can advance to a manager role as I had once envisioned. By December 2023, I will graduate with my business administration undergrad degree. And I am confident to continue my education by pursuing my MBA; however, the tuition cost is my significant concern. I would like to see my journey through and be an inspirational leader to others who have self-doubt about their decision post-high-school. There is a saying the sky is the limit, I don't believe that since there are footsteps on the moon, and soon to be on other planets. Thank you and very respectfully!

Greetings, I am a first-generation college student in my family. Students should be surrounded by inspirational leaders every day and everywhere. Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
Greetings, My favorite song on Taylor Swift's '1989' album is This Love. First, the year album is when I graduated from high school. And second, I look to the lyrics of losing my father, who lost his battle with colon cancer at a young age. My father was my motivator and inspiration in so many ways. I had hoped to make one of his dreams come true by succeeding in a college degree that he never had a chance to complete himself. I am a first-generation college student in my family. Greetings, My motivation to confront gender disparity in Texas is a better and higher education with career opportunities to break the glass ceiling. How? End discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. A lack of gender equality for workplaces has become a challenge to most global companies; it can damage your business by creating employee burnout, turnover, and attrition. Hence business leaders must act on the importance of gender equality in their workplace. Through our ongoing public education campaigns, we should win hearts and minds within this beautiful state of Texas. I am a first-generation college student in my family. Greetings, I am a first generation in my family among mom, dad, brother, and sister to pursue a college degree. Decades later, I decided to pursue something I never thought to circle back on, going to college. Yet, I wanted to start slow in community college since it had been years since I was in school. When I started to attend school, the pandemic hit our world. A great strain to our way of life and my goals to complete college. Personally, I am grateful to the online services of classes. Without access to the online classes, I may have been discouraged to finish college. After loosing my job when attending college, it put a great deal of strain to my mental health; disappointment and depression would follow. However, perseverance and ambition played an active role in my life. In Spring ‘21, I graduated with an AAS degree in business administration from Dallas College. My graduation experience was a blissful moment, my only wish was to have shared with my father and my son. My angels in heaven; I can only imagine how much they would be proud of my accomplishments. To my dad, I did it, I graduated. To my son, momma is doing this for you. Post-graduation, I loved the graduation experience so much I decided to pursue a second AAS degree in management. Graduation for a second AAS degree will occur in May ‘22; which an additional certificate will be earned in management as well. Of my accomplishments obtained between ‘21 and ‘22; I will have earned two AAS degrees (BA & Mgmt), three certificates (HRA, Supervisor, Mgmt) and leadership awards. It has taken me several decades to realize my passion to further my education. After gaining my first AAS, I started working at a startup company as an executive assistant. Within two months, I was given an interim office manager role. I am grateful to be considered for the office manager role and hope it will become a full time position. A mindset to understand what is required in the real-world to advance in business and/or corporation with a college degree. In 2020, I became a member of Phi Theta Kappa. It was an amazing honor to receive such a recognition of my good grades. With that said, my good grades and accomplishments has weighed for me to continue an education in pursue of a bachelors degree in organizational management. My concern to pursuing a bachelors degree at a university is paying for tuition. In past years, I have volunteered to Hope’s Door and Minnie’s Pantry. Both organizations brought realization of sufferings for persons and families involved in abuse and hunger. Of these organizations individuals and their families were able to find comfort, support, and consulting; a humble experience I witnessed to assisting both organizations for people in need of help. With my management degree, I have a strong belief to assist people in non-profit organizations and support centers as a voluntary. Thank you for you time and consideration. Kindly and very respectfully, San Juana Figueroa
