There was a time in my life when I felt completely overwhelmed by my circumstances. My mental health was struggling, and I often felt hopeless, unsure of how to move forward. I was making choices that were harmful, and I began to notice how those choices were affecting not just my life but my relationships and my future. During this period, I realized I needed something greater than myself to guide me—a source of strength, direction, and hope. That’s when I fully turned to my faith and to my church, KITC, for support. Through prayer, reflection, and the encouragement of my church family, I began to experience a sense of deliverance. I felt a spiritual shift that gave me clarity and courage to take responsibility for my actions. It was not an immediate change, but over time, I noticed myself making healthier decisions, prioritizing my mental health, and approaching challenges with patience and resilience. My faith reminded me that I was never alone and that I had the power to grow beyond my struggles. I am especially grateful to KITC for standing by me, offering guidance, prayer, and a loving community that made it possible for me to heal and change. Being delivered from that period of darkness taught me the importance of self-awareness and accountability. I learned to recognize when I was falling into harmful patterns and to actively choose a better path, trusting that my faith would guide me. This experience also strengthened my empathy and my desire to help others who might be facing similar obstacles. I realized that mental health struggles do not define a person, and seeking help—spiritual or otherwise—is a sign of strength, not weakness. Ultimately, relying on my faith helped me transform my mindset and my actions. I no longer feel trapped by my circumstances but empowered to make choices that honor my well-being and my future. This journey has shown me that with faith, patience, and determination, obstacles—no matter how daunting—can become opportunities for growth and positive change. I am grateful to God and to KITC for guiding me through this season, helping me become a stronger, wiser, and more compassionate person. Thank you Pastor Felicia Flowers and KITC Family for being by my side even when I did not know. My faith has gotten stronger with myself and what I can achieve and with the Lord as well. Oh how me and the Lord have a wonderful relationship right now.

I am passionate about music because it has always been my way of expressing myself when words cannot fully explain what I feel. From a young age, I found comfort in singing at church, performing in school choirs, and participating in theater productions. Music has given me a voice when I felt unheard and a way to release emotions I could not put into words. It has taught me patience, discipline, and self-confidence while giving me the courage to share my story with others. Every time I perform, write, or practice a song, I feel a deep connection not only to the music itself but also to the people who listen and are inspired by it. Music is more than entertainment for me—it is a tool for connection, healing, and empowerment. It has shaped my identity and motivated me to become the best version of myself, both on stage and in everyday life. Throughout my life, music has shown me the importance of dedication and hard work. Learning harmonies, memorizing lyrics, and preparing for performances has taught me responsibility, focus, and persistence. I have seen how music can lift someone’s mood, bring people together, and make them feel understood, and these experiences have inspired me to want to share that same positive impact with others. I know that music can transform lives, and I want to use my passion to make a meaningful difference in every community I touch. Through my career, I plan to give back to youth by helping them discover their own voices through music. I want to create mentorship programs, workshops, and community events where young people can learn about singing, songwriting, performing, and producing music. I hope to guide them through the challenges I faced, offering encouragement, support, and opportunities to grow creatively. I want youth to feel empowered, confident, and inspired to pursue their passions through music, just as I have experienced. Ultimately, my goal is to use my career not only to entertain but also to inspire and uplift the next generation. I want to show young people that music is a tool for self-expression, growth, and resilience. Music has shaped me into who I am today, and I am determined to share that gift with others so they can experience the same joy, confidence, and purpose that music has given me throughout every part of my life. And this is my story.

Music has always been more than just sound to me—it’s a language that speaks when words can’t. Ever since I was little, I’ve felt a deep connection to rhythm, melody, and lyrics. I grew up singing in church, performing in school choirs, and participating in musical theater, and that’s where I realized that music isn’t just something I enjoy—it’s a part of who I am. Whenever I sing or write a song, it feels like I’m expressing a piece of my soul. Music gives me peace, confidence, and a way to cope with everything I’ve been through. It’s my safe space, my escape, but also my purpose, something that drives me to improve myself every day. Throughout my educational journey, music has played a huge role in shaping who I am as a student and a person. Being involved in choir, theater, and school performances has taught me discipline, teamwork, and the importance of consistency. Memorizing lyrics, practicing harmonies, and performing in front of crowds helped me build confidence and communication skills that I use in other areas of my life, even outside of music. Whenever I was struggling personally or academically, music helped me stay focused, motivated, and emotionally balanced. Singing through my emotions gave me the strength to keep going, even during the toughest times. I’ve learned that dedication to music often translates into dedication in every part of my life. Music has also opened doors for me to connect with others who share the same passion. From school concerts to local talent showcases, I’ve met people who inspire me to keep improving my craft. I’ve learned how powerful music can be in bringing people together, no matter their background or story. It’s something that unites people in a way few other things can, and it has taught me empathy, patience, and leadership. In the future, I plan to continue pursuing my passion for music by studying either vocal performance or music production after high school. I want to learn everything I can about the industry—how to write, record, and produce music that truly moves people. My dream is to become a gospel or R&B singer-songwriter who creates songs that inspire others to heal, believe in themselves, and keep faith through hard times. I also hope to start a mentorship program to help young artists find their voice and tell their stories through music. Music has shaped me into who I am, and I want to use it to positively change lives the same way it changed mine.

Growing up with a single mother shaped me into a strong, independent, and resilient person. My mom had to handle everything on her own, and the stress sometimes became overwhelming. At times, she turned to drinking to cope with her struggles, and because she had no one to help, I would often go with her to work or even sleep there because there was no one to watch me. Experiencing that made me grow up faster than many of my peers and taught me how to adapt to difficult situations. I learned that life doesn’t always provide support when you need it, so I had to find ways to support myself and stay focused on my responsibilities. Seeing my mom struggle also made me value hard work and responsibility. I realized early that if I wanted something, I would have to work for it, no matter how challenging life became. Whether it was keeping up with my schoolwork, helping around the house, or finding ways to care for myself, I learned to be resourceful and independent. These experiences taught me that setbacks are not permanent and that resilience comes from pushing through hardships, even when it feels overwhelming. I also learned how to manage stress and remain calm in difficult moments, which has helped me in school, extracurricular activities, and personal relationships. Emotionally, growing up in this environment taught me empathy, understanding, and patience. I understand how stress and hardship can affect someone, and I have learned to be more compassionate toward others. Seeing my mom struggle and still try to provide for me inspired me to always try my best, even when situations are difficult. I have learned how important it is to support others, to show kindness, and to stay patient with people who are going through hard times. These lessons have shaped the way I interact with friends, classmates, and community members, and they have strengthened my character. Overall, being raised by a single mother who faced so many challenges made me resilient, self-sufficient, and goal-driven. Her struggles taught me the importance of perseverance and shaped me into someone who does not give up easily. I have learned to turn difficult experiences into motivation to succeed, to value every opportunity, and to remain determined despite obstacles. I am proud of the person I have become because of everything I have lived through, and I carry the lessons I learned from my mom with me in every part of my life.

My name is Saniya Davis, and I am a 12th-grade student in my final year of high school. School has always been a place where I love to learn and challenge myself, and I enjoy being involved in many activities that allow me to grow both academically and personally. Some of my favorite subjects are music and English because I love expressing myself through words and songs. I have also been involved in extracurricular activities like choir, theater, FBLA, and FCCLA. Participating in these groups has taught me teamwork, responsibility, and how to balance school with my passions. Outside of school, I enjoy singing, writing music, performing whenever I get the chance, and exploring new creative outlets that help me express myself fully. Being able to share my voice and connect with people through music is something I am truly passionate about, and it is a big part of who I am as a person. I also enjoy volunteering and being active in my community. My church has been a huge part of my life, and I spend time helping with youth programs, community events, and other activities that support families and children. Being involved in these opportunities has taught me the value of giving back and the impact that even small actions can have on people’s lives. These experiences have inspired me to want to make a difference not just through music but also through service, and they have shown me that helping others can be just as rewarding as pursuing your personal goals. After high school, I plan to continue pursuing my passion for music, with a goal of becoming a gospel singer. I want to attend a school where I can grow as an artist and learn more about performance and music production. I hope to use my voice to inspire and encourage people while also sharing stories that bring hope, positivity, and motivation to others. If I could start my own charity, its mission would be to provide music education and mentorship to children and teenagers in underprivileged communities. I would serve students who may not have access to instruments, lessons, or guidance but who have a passion for music. Volunteers would help teach music lessons, mentor students in songwriting and performance, organize workshops, and even help provide instruments or resources to those who need them. The goal would be to give young people a creative outlet, build their confidence, and help them discover their talents. I believe music can truly change lives, and I would want my charity to give kids the same opportunities I have had to explore my own talents and passions. Through my school involvement, community service, and future charity, I hope to make a positive difference in the world while following my dreams and helping others follow theirs, leaving a lasting impact that inspires both individuals and communities for years to come.
    Vision of Music Scholarship
Music has always been a big part of my life. Ever since I was little, singing has made me feel happy, confident, and connected to something bigger than myself. I want to pursue a career as a gospel singer because I know music is more than just entertainment—it can inspire, comfort, and bring people together. Choosing music as my path feels natural because it allows me to use my voice to encourage others and share my story. Singing gives me a way to express my emotions and connect with people, and I want to dedicate my life to creating music that has meaning and purpose. My biggest role models in the music industry are artists who not only have amazing voices but also share messages that matter. Gospel singers like Yolanda Adams and Tasha Cobbs Leonard inspire me because they show how music can uplift, heal, and strengthen people. They are talented, but they are also real, dedicated, and passionate about helping others through their music. Watching their journeys has taught me that being successful in music takes hard work, practice, and staying true to yourself. I want to follow their example by working hard, improving my voice, and sharing songs that inspire people. I hope to make a difference in the music industry by creating songs that bring hope and positivity. Music can lift people up when they are feeling down, and I want my music to do that. I also want to inspire other young artists to chase their dreams and use their voices to make a positive impact. By sharing my story through music, I hope to show that even when life is hard, it is possible to overcome challenges and reach your goals. Music is powerful, and I want to use it to make people feel strong, encouraged, and seen. I want people to remember me as a singer who had not only a strong voice but also a heart full of passion for spreading hope and joy. I want my music to leave a mark and remind listeners that their voices matter too. If I can inspire even one person through my singing, I will feel like I am making a difference. Pursuing music allows me to follow my passion, inspire others, and leave a lasting impact in the world. I hope to use my talents to encourage, uplift, and bring people together for years to come.

Social media has become such a huge part of our everyday lives, and while it can be fun and helpful, it also has a big impact on mental health and self-esteem. I’ve noticed this in my own life, and I know a lot of my friends feel the same way. Sometimes when I scroll through Instagram, TikTok, or other platforms, it’s hard not to compare myself to others. I see people with perfect bodies, flawless skin, and seemingly exciting lives, and it can make me feel like I’m not doing enough or that I don’t measure up. Even though I know that what I see online isn’t the full truth, it still affects how I feel about myself. For me personally, there have been times when I just felt down after being online. I would catch myself comparing my appearance, my outfits, or even my hobbies to people I follow. It made me question my worth, and sometimes I felt anxious or stressed without even realizing it at first. Social media can create pressure to look a certain way or to always be popular, talented, or successful. That pressure doesn’t just hurt self-esteem—it can also affect your mood, motivation, and even how you interact with people in real life. At the same time, social media isn’t all bad. It can be a way to connect with friends, share your creativity, and find support when you need it. The key is finding a balance. One thing that has helped me is taking breaks from social media or setting limits on how much time I spend scrolling. Another is reminding myself that people usually only share the highlights of their lives, not their struggles. Following positive accounts and spending time with friends who actually support and encourage you also makes a difference. I think schools and families can play a role too. Talking about social media, self-esteem, and mental health in classrooms or at home can help students learn how to handle the pressures online. Personally, I’m learning to focus more on my own growth and achievements rather than comparing myself to others. Social media doesn’t have to be harmful if you know how to use it in a healthy way. It’s not about quitting it completely; it’s about protecting your mental health while still enjoying the benefits of being connected online. Learning to do that is something I’m still figuring out, but I know it’s worth it for my confidence and happiness.

My name is Saniya Davis, and I am a 17-year-old senior who has faced many challenges but continues to rise above them with faith, determination, and purpose. My journey has not been easy, but every obstacle I have faced has shaped my strength, my outlook on life, and my desire to achieve something meaningful. From a young age, I discovered that music was more than just a hobby, it was my healing space and the truest way I could express who I am. I aspire to become a gospel singer because I believe my voice was given to me for a reason: to uplift, inspire, and bring peace to others who may be going through hard times. I’ve been involved in choir, theater, FCCLA, and FBLA, and I even became a spelling bee runner-up. Each of these experiences taught me discipline, leadership, and the power of believing in myself even when things get difficult. However, my path hasn’t always been smooth. I have faced deep emotional struggles and moments when I questioned my worth. I’ve experienced verbal abuse and spent time in a mental hospital while working toward emotional healing. Those moments were painful, but they gave me perspective and resilience. I learned that it’s okay to ask for help, to rest, and to rebuild at my own pace. At one point, I moved to Florida to live with my father, hoping for a fresh start and new opportunities. However, that situation came with its own challenges, and I realized that my mental health and peace had to come first. Moving back to Alabama was a hard decision, but it allowed me to find stability, focus on my education, and start preparing for the future I truly want. Despite everything, I’ve never stopped believing in myself or my purpose. Music continues to remind me that my story matters and that every trial has a reason behind it. This scholarship would mean so much to me because it represents more than just financial support—it symbolizes opportunity, hope, and a chance to continue turning my dreams into reality. With this support, I can pursue my education, strengthen my skills, and keep working toward my goal of becoming a gospel singer who uses her voice to inspire others. I’ve learned that no matter how difficult life becomes, faith and perseverance can turn pain into power. I’m ready to keep moving forward and make my purpose shine.
