My two main life goals at the moment include graduating nursing school and creating my own business. I am passionate about my hobbies which include singing, writing, playing my ukulele, and playing my saxophone. I would say I love art and I always have, but I drifted off since starting college and I want to go back to doing it!

Growing up, mental illness wasn’t just something I heard about—it was something that shaped my entire life. My older brother has a mental illness, and ever since I can remember, my family’s world revolved around him and his care. While most younger siblings look up to their older brothers for guidance and protection, I often felt like the “big brother” instead of the little sister. I took on responsibilities that weren’t mine, constantly worrying about what each day would bring. Every morning, I would wake up with a sense of unease, wondering, What’s going to happen today? Will things be okay at home? When will his next breakdown be, and how will we manage it? This anxiety was constant, and I never knew when things might spiral out of control. It wasn’t just my brother who was affected—his struggles became our struggles as a family. My parents were exhausted, emotionally and physically, trying to keep everything together, and I felt the weight of their stress, even as a child. Instead of focusing on typical childhood experiences, my mind was always preoccupied with what was happening at home. I learned to read every situation carefully, always assessing if things were stable or if another crisis was around the corner. I developed a heightened sense of awareness, always anticipating the next challenge. While my friends worried about school and social events, I worried about whether my family could handle another difficult day. Despite the emotional toll this took on me, growing up in that environment taught me to be resilient, kind, patient, understanding, and deeply empathetic. I know what it feels like to be left out in the dark, hurt, scared, lost, to feel helpless, and to wish you could make things better for someone you love. But I also know the power of support, understanding, and the importance of mental health awareness. These experiences have shaped me into someone who wants to help others, especially those dealing with mental illness. While my journey has been challenging, it has also given me a sense of purpose. I understand the struggles that families face, and I want to be someone who provides comfort and care, just as I wished for during the hardest moments. Mental illness affects not just the individual but everyone around them, and I hope to use my experiences to advocate for those who need it most. It is not just the individual who is affected, it is those who care and love for them as well.

A Journey of Resilience, Service, and Aspiration Life has a way of shaping our dreams through the challenges we face. My journey to becoming a nurse began when I was just nine years old, diagnosed with ovarian cancer. At such a young age, I was thrust into a world of uncertainty, pain, and fear. I remember seeing the look on my family’s faces each time they would come to visit me. I felt as though I was dying, but I was only a child I didn’t understand my feelings. However, through this hardship, the nurses who took care of me became my source of comfort. They were more than just healthcare providers—they were my advocates, my protectors, my comedians, and my inspiration. Their compassion and dedication left a huge impact on me, so much so that I wanted to become a nurse. Overcoming Personal Challenges The path to persue this dream has not been easy. I have faced many personal struggles, such as financial difficulties, family issues, and the immense challenge of balancing work, school, and supporting my loved ones. There have been times when these responsibilities felt like the weight of the world on my shoulders, but each obstacle I faced has reinforced my resilience. I have learned to persevere, to manage time effectively, and to remain focused on my goals no matter what gets thrown my way. These experiences have taught me that determination is not just about pushing forward but also about adapting, asking for support when needed, and continuously reminding myself why I strive to be a nurse in the first place. Commitment to Service and Community Throughout my life, I have found strength in service. Whether it was through volunteering work, assisting people in need, or offering help to my family and friends, I have always believed in being compassionate, humble, and giving back. My experiences have made me someone who values the well-being of others, and will continue doing so. Helping people, especially in their most vulnerable moments, is a privilege that I do not and will never take lightly. Service is not just about what we give—it’s about how we connect as a community, uplift, and stand beside those who need us. Aspiration to Become a Nurse Pursuing nursing is not just a career choice for me; it is a calling. I want to be the kind of nurse who provides the same comfort and care that I once received. I want to advocate for my patients, support them through their difficulties, and make a difference in their lives. Nursing is about more than medical knowledge—it is about kindness, empathy, and dedication. My goal is to embody these values every day, ensuring that my patients feel seen, heard, and cared for. Despite the struggles I continue to face, my passion remains unwavering. I know that every challenge I overcome brings me one step closer to achieving my dreams. That is the impact I hope to have, and I will continue striving to be the nurses I once had.
