I am a student athlete pursuing a double major in finance and business information technology at Case Western Reserve University. I love to be with family and do outdoor activities such as hiking and fishing. With substantial student loan debt accumulating while I am working part-time in school, I am hopeful that God will provide opportunities through scholarships to help aid my financial career.

"...It isn't in your best interest to continue playing, and it's time to hang up the jersey for good," said the doctor as he explained to me that, after incurring two fractures to my spine, it was certain that I would never play another game of football. Storming out the office in utter refusal of the diagnosis, I remember telling my mother what the doctor said "wasn't true". My back was broken, that was true, according to detailed MRI and CT screening. Physicists, doctors, and scientists everywhere use "truths" to calculate, predict, and invent on a daily basis. But in a day and age where people walk around with an idea of "my truth", it seems to add more confusion than clarity.
When faced with such a comprehensive analysis of what truth is, and if there can be multiple versions, I turned to scripture to see what God says. To sum it up all too quickly, the truth is Jesus Christ himself: "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" -John 14:6 NLV. Among believers, it is rather common knowledge to know of Jesus' works and teachings in the Gospels, so to equate the truth to a person seems rather odd. That is, until you dig deeper into verses such as John 1:1-3, where we see the beginnings of truth (Jesus) explained: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life and that life was the light of all mankind." These passages have profound meaning when you consider in the beginning, God, through his WORD (Jesus), created the world and everything in it. The truth, which consists of the laws that govern the universe, and the fabric of reality in which we exist is of God, from God, through Jesus Christ. There is knowledge and wisdom in that truth so wonderful I believe scientists have only begun to scratch the surface of.
Rotating to personal ideas of truth, I'm attracted to think of it in a context of our inner self, our beliefs, and even our subconscious. "Am I loving others?", or "Am I doing my best?" Are questions I frequently find myself asking that revolve around what the truth is. Psalm 139:1 NLV says, "You have searched me, LORD, and you know me." that verse, along with 1 Samuel 16:7 NLV: "...The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart,'" show us God has a vast and personal knowledge of the deepest parts of our being. People may walk around with their own beliefs of themselves, others, and the world. However, God knows the truth about us! We cannot fool God, even if we are fooling ourselves.
God's truth, through his word Jesus Christ, embody the only version of truth there was, is, or will be. In Ephesians God tells us to first stand firm with the belt of truth buckled on our waist (Ephesians 6:14). I believe God put this piece of armor first on the list because without a firm foundation in the truth, we can find ourselves living out lies that come from the enemy. When we align ourselves to God's truth, we can live freely and confidently as we navigate our purpose here on this earth.
