Having been raised on the Navajo Nation throughout my childhood, I am now enrolled in Northern Arizona University graduate school pursuing a master's degree in forestry, driven by my passion for the outdoors and a deep commitment to environmental health and sustainability. My decision to constantly pursue advanced education directly stems from observing individuals in my life taking gap years that unintentionally extended into prolonged breaks from academic pursuits. Eager to surpass the educational achievements of my parents, I hold a firm belief, instilled by them, that education is among the most impactful investments of my time and life.
One of the most challenging periods in my life coincided with my mother's battle with a terminal illness. During this time, my academic performance suffered, and I faced personal struggles. Following her passing, I channeled my grief into my studies, dedicating myself to academic excellence starting from my second year of undergrad. Motivated by the values instilled by my mother, I strive to honor her legacy by doing my utmost in all aspects of my life.
Presently, I navigate the demanding responsibilities of working a full-time job and actively seeking a second one, all while maintaining a full-time student status. The experiences garnered during my college years and throughout my time in graduate school have imparted invaluable lessons regarding the significance of financial prudence and resource acquisition. My goal is to consistently give my best effort, driven by a desire to lead a life that would make my mother proud.

I am deeply committed to pursuing a career in environmental science, with a primary focus on the health and sustainability of forest ecosystems. Currently, I am enrolled in a master's program in Forestry at Northern Arizona University, a leading institution in forestry education. My research is centered on Emory oaks, which are found in the southern regions of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, near the Mexico border. These trees hold significant cultural and ecological value for Western Apache tribes, such as the Yavapai and Mescalero, who rely on the acorns for both nutritional and ceremonial purposes.
Over the past few decades, Emory oaks have experienced a troubling decline in population, acorn production, and stand regeneration. This decline is likely due to factors such as climate change and changes in forest management practices. My master's research aims to investigate the causes behind this decline and develop effective strategies to improve their condition. This involves extensive fieldwork and data analysis to identify environmental stressors and propose viable solutions to support the recovery of these important trees. Specifically, my role in this comprehensive project involves examining the phenotype and tree rings of the Emory oaks to gain insights into their health and growth patterns.
After completing my master's degree, I plan to pursue a PhD to further expand my knowledge and enhance my impact in the field. With advanced expertise and research skills, I aim to make significant contributions to the preservation and restoration of forest ecosystems, particularly within the Navajo Nation. My ultimate goal is to apply the principles of environmental science to protect and enhance our natural resources, thereby making a positive impact on both the environment and my community.
In my current role, I am actively involved in projects that aim to improve environmental conditions and promote sustainability. I collaborate with various groups to address ecological issues and work towards practical solutions that can benefit both nature and local communities. By engaging in these efforts, I am already contributing to environmental conservation and sustainability.
My aspiration to pursue a PhD stems from a desire to deepen my understanding and broaden my influence in environmental science. With a doctoral degree, I will be better equipped to undertake complex research projects, lead conservation initiatives, and implement effective strategies for ecosystem restoration. My long-term vision is to use my expertise to support the cultural and ecological well-being of my people, the Navajo Nation, and beyond.
I am inspired by the legacy of my ancestors and the work of my family, who are also dedicated to improving environmental conditions. Their commitment to environmental science has instilled a profound respect for the land and a strong desire to contribute to a sustainable future for all. Through my studies and future work, I hope to create lasting positive changes that will benefit our environment and our communities for generations to come.
Environmental Kindness Scholarship
As a Native American, my passion for protecting the environment is deeply rooted in the my character and my love for the land that represents the Navajo Nation. For many of us, our connection to the land is an integral part of our identity and heritage. While I cannot speak for all Native Americans, I can say that, for me and many others, the land holds a profound importance that is culturally and spiritually importance to us which is one of the main reasons why I want to pursue an education in environment.
This deep-seated respect for the environment is central to my character and has shaped my career aspirations. My father, who has dedicated a significant portion of his life to studying environmental science, and my brothers, who are also pursuing careers in this field, have made significant strides in improving the land our people live on. Their dedication and progress have inspired me to follow a similar path. Witnessing their commitment and the positive impact they are making has fueled my desire to contribute to this vital work.
Throughout my life, I have been taught the paramount importance of the environment and the responsibility we have to protect it. This belief has been instilled in me from a young age, emphasizing that we have only one chance to care for our planet. My studies in environmental science are a direct extension of these values and are aimed at equipping me with the knowledge and skills necessary to combat climate change effectively. By understanding the complexities of environmental issues, I hope to develop and implement strategies that will make a meaningful difference in preserving our natural world.
While my family and friends are already well-versed in sustainability, I would still offer some lesser-known tips. For instance, they could reduce their use of lithium-based devices and products, buy more from local sources, and choose items that minimize plastic usage. I believe that reducing one's carbon footprint comes down to simple, everyday actions that collectively make a big difference. I would encourage them to adopt sustainable practices such as cutting down on energy consumption, minimizing waste, and selecting eco-friendly products. Additionally, supporting renewable energy, conserving water, and using public transportation or carpooling are practical steps that can significantly reduce our overall carbon footprint.
In summary, my passion for environmental protection is intertwined with my cultural heritage and personal experiences. My studies in environmental science are a testament to my commitment to combating climate change and preserving the land that is so vital to our identity. By sharing practical advice with my family and friends, I hope to inspire a broader movement towards sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Netflix and Scholarships!
Undoubtedly, one of the most exceptional series in my Netflix repertoire is none other than "The Haunting of Hill House". This show carries profound significance for me, as I shared the viewing experience with my mom during its initial watch. Given that horror is my preferred genre in both film and television, I decided to give this highly praised show a chance, and I was genuinely pleased that I did. The series seamlessly intertwines phenomenal acting with a storyline filled with unexpected twists and turns that left me both intrigued and thoroughly satisfied.
The acting prowess displayed by the entire cast was nothing short of a perfect ten. Each cast member delivered a compelling performance, showcasing a deep commitment that was immediately noticeable. The characters, grappling with their individual traumas and life mistakes, were portrayed with nuance, and the actors skillfully incorporated subtle nuances that foreshadowed the complexities of their lives. It brings me great joy to witness the subsequent success these actors and actresses have found in various other forms of media.
In the initial episodes, the narrative masterfully illustrates the characters' disconnected lives, laden with personal regrets and mistakes. It adeptly delineates the conflicts and strains within their family bonds. Towards the conclusion, a poignant transformation occurs as the characters make amends and work towards resolving their issues and mistakes.
Beyond its gripping storytelling and stellar acting, the show has offered me a unique perspective on the concept of ghosts. The concluding segments delve into the idea that ghosts can embody memories, daydreams, secrets, regrets, or grief, lingering around individuals' lives whether welcomed or not. The show delves into each character's interpretation of their own ghosts, providing insight into how they grapple with and reconcile their haunting pasts.
This series holds a special place in my heart for its exceptional storytelling, acting, and, notably, for featuring one of the most terrifying scenes I've encountered in any form of media. The sheer intensity of the moment compelled me to pause the show, genuinely fearing for my life. Another reason it resonates deeply with me is the shared experience with my mom, who also reveled in the show. As the final credits rolled, both of us found ourselves moved to tears, emotionally impacted by the relatability of the characters' sentiments. Watching this series, particularly with my mom, became a cherished memory, and it stands out as one of the last shows we enjoyed together.
Spider-Man Showdown Scholarship
When it comes to actors who have donned the iconic Spider-Man suit on the silver screen, my all-time favorite has to be Tobey Maguire. Growing up as a child of the 2000s, my fascination with Spider-Man was at its peak, complete with a Spider-Man costume and a tent adorned with Spider-Man themes where I'd eagerly drift off to sleep in the living room. The charm of the Spider-Man movies from that era, with their campy dialogue and character motivations, left an indelible mark on my cinematic preferences.
Tobey Maguire's portrayal of Peter Parker resonated profoundly with me. His inherent nerdiness and awkwardness perfectly encapsulated the essence of the character. Witnessing Peter Parker's journey from a hesitant and awkward young man to someone who embraces his identity was a compelling transformation, and Tobey Maguire brought authenticity to every nuance of this character evolution. The pinnacle of his portrayal, in my opinion, occurred in the second movie of the trilogy, where Peter faced a series of devastating losses—Mary Jane, Aunt May's house, his powers, and his best friend. Yet, the most significant loss was his sense of purpose.
The subsequent narrative, showcasing Peter's climb from rock bottom, stands out as one of the most satisfying and inspirational sequences ever captured on film. The film eloquently illustrates Peter's realization of the responsibilities that come with great power and the true essence of what is important to him. It's a masterpiece in heroism, skillfully performed by Tobey Maguire, who flawlessly captures the indomitable human spirit and the unwavering determination to persevere. The echoes of his performance and the impact of his portrayal of Spider-Man continue to resonate with me, and I am always delighted to come across mentions of Tobey Maguire and the significant role he played in shaping our perception of the beloved superhero.
Anime Enthusiast Scholarship
Without a doubt, "Love is War" stands out as one of those animes that I find incredibly rewatchable and thoroughly enjoyable. Initially, I hesitated to delve into it, skeptical about its status as a romantic comedy. While I'm a fan of romcoms featuring real people, "Love is War" surprised me with its unique charm. The humor embedded in the show, with its clever and original twists, gradually won me over, complemented by the fluid animation and vibrant personalities exuded by each character.
Upon the release of the third season, I eagerly devoured all the available episodes, and the narrative reached a crescendo in the final episode. This climactic moment featured the two main protagonists finally confessing their feelings for each other, adding a compelling layer to the series. Post-third season, my anticipation for the continuation of their relationship soared, leaving me eagerly awaiting the subsequent season. Moreover, I noted that the series garnered acclaim and recognition, securing its place as one of the best anime series following the release of its last season.
The reason why I find myself revisiting this series repeatedly is multifaceted. Not only does it offer a continuous source of laughter, but each rewatch allows me to grasp the intricacies of the jokes even better. Furthermore, witnessing the evolution of the characters from their initial distance to the depth of their connection in the future—making plans and navigating the complexities of being in love together—is a narrative feat not commonly found in many shows. This ability to showcase character development and the nuances of relationships is a testament to the series' narrative prowess.
In essence, "Love is War" has become my go-to anime for rewatches, providing a delightful blend of humor, character growth, and a unique take on the romantic comedy genre that keeps me coming back for more.
Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
Selecting just one Nintendo game from the vast genre that I enjoy playing with others is quite the challenge. I've got a treasure trove of fantastic memories playing some absolute gems with my brothers. The lineup includes classics like "Donkey Kong Racing", "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time", "Wii Sports", and "Mario Kart Wii". Now, I'm well aware that "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" doesn't technically have a co-op mode, but my brothers and I, being the dedicated gamers we are, developed a system. We'd take turns playing, setting specific time limits or switching when one of us met an untimely demise. It was our way of ensuring everyone got a fair shot at the gaming glory.
However, if I had to pinpoint a game that truly epitomizes cooperative gaming bliss, it would undeniably be "Wii Sports." This particular gem holds a special place in my heart for a multitude of reasons. It's not just a game; it's a well of fun-filled moments that become indelible memories. Whenever my brothers and I reunite for holidays, we gravitate towards the Wii, revisiting the thrill of baseball, bowling, or golf.
One standout memory revolves around an epic late-night session of baseball that lasted until the wee hours of the morning. What made it unforgettable wasn't just the exhaustion from playing, but the uncontrollable fits of laughter that ensued. Our playing styles were so hilariously diverse, and our attempts to hit the ball became more of a comedy routine than a sports game. Bellyaching laughter filled the room as my brothers, with their rusty but skilled gameplay, consistently sent balls soaring out of the park. When it was finally my turn to bat, I miraculously hit an out-of-the-park homerun, sparking another round of uproarious laughter.
That night, the absurdity and goofiness of the game turned a simple gaming session into a riot of joy. "Wii Sports" holds not only a special place in my heart but also in the collective memory shared with my brothers. It's more than just a game; it's a trigger for camaraderie, laughter, and the kind of unforgettable moments that bond siblings for a lifetime.
“The Office” Obsessed! Fan Scholarship
I find a strong resonance with the character of Michael Scott, acknowledging that this may be a common sentiment. My sense of humor closely aligns with his, to the extent that, at one point in my life, I attempted to emulate his personality and straightforwardness. However, this endeavor turned out to be a professional trainwreck, teaching me a valuable lesson about the importance of incorporating grace when employing humor in the workplace. It became clear that humor akin to Michael Scott's, if not executed with tact, could be perceived as arrogant and off-putting. Subsequent job opportunities provided me with the chance to cultivate a more humble and considerate approach to sharing humor in various professional settings.
Recognizing the significance of selflessness in those in positions of authority, I recall a boss in the food industry who exemplified this quality. Much like Michael Scott, he maintained a lighthearted atmosphere by cracking jokes, readily addressing questions, and exhibiting mastery in his craft. His leadership style, characterized by fairness and respect for those under him, left a lasting impression on me. If I were to compile a list of bosses throughout my career, he would undoubtedly rank near the top due to his humor, knowledge of the industry, and his equitable treatment of his team.
Reflecting on my journey, I can assert that I've evolved in my ability to inject humor into both professional and social interactions. While "The Office" isn't the sole determinant of my character, it has undeniably influenced my understanding of the type of humor, workplace dynamics, and leadership qualities I aspire to embody. The experiences garnered from attempting to replicate Michael Scott's approach have not only refined my comedic sensibilities but have also contributed to my growth as a professional who values both humor and humility in the workplace.

Redefining Victory Scholarship
Success is a multifaceted concept, its definition varying among individuals based on factors such as wealth, social connections, and achievements in academic and professional endeavors. To me, success is the ability to live a life free from external constraints, with personal growth and the pursuit of knowledge serving as essential components. This entails continuous self-improvement, utilizing acquired knowledge to chart a course toward personal aspirations.
My pathway to success involves ongoing efforts to enhance my character and a steadfast commitment to acquiring knowledge that I deem valuable. Fortunate to have parents who recognized the significance of higher education, I embarked on my undergraduate journey at Fort Lewis College, delving into biology and GIS. The diverse student body, inclusive of various tribes, facilitated an exploration of my Navajo heritage. Through these academic pursuits, I gained insights into myself and honed the skills necessary to navigate toward my desired destinations.
Despite achieving educational milestones and personal growth, my journey was not without challenges. Trials and tribulations, including the loss of loved ones and struggles with mental health, marked the lowest points during my undergraduate education. Despite the adversities, I persevered, obtaining my bachelor's degree and proving to myself that resilience can prevail even in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
Presently, my definition of success aligns with my pursuit of a master's degree in forestry at Northern Arizona University. Looking ahead, I envision further success in the form of a doctoral degree, the specific focus of which remains undetermined but will undoubtedly involve environmental topics. This educational trajectory reflects my deep-seated interest in environmental issues and my commitment to contributing to the betterment of our surroundings. As I continue this educational journey, my aim is not only personal success but also to play a role in advancing the well-being of the environment.
Realigning my focus on the ways in which this opportunity can contribute to my overarching goals of achieving success, it becomes evident that financial support is crucial for my academic pursuits. Sustaining my commitment to education requires a steady influx of funds, especially considering my current circumstances. As a full-time student, I find myself navigating the challenges of living paycheck to paycheck in my role as a Graduate Research Assistant. Recently, I faced additional financial strains due to a significant setback – my departure from a second job, prompted by a hostile work environment created by my manager. This decision has further reduced my income, exacerbating the financial hurdles I face. Additionally, an unexpected accident has compounded my financial challenges, setting me back in terms of the funds necessary for the upcoming semester.
In light of these circumstances, the significance of this scholarship cannot be overstated. It serves as a vital lifeline, offering the financial support essential for the continuity of my educational journey. With the assistance provided by this scholarship, I will be able to overcome the recent setbacks and move forward with my pursuit of success. I am sincerely grateful for this invaluable opportunity and express my heartfelt thanks to those who have made it possible. I eagerly anticipate the possibility of further discussions and hope to hear from you soon, as this scholarship holds the potential to be a transformative force in my academic and personal endeavors.
Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
Elie Wiesel's "Night" has left an indelible mark on me, standing out as one of the most profoundly impactful literary masterpiece I have ever encountered. This poignant narrative delves into the harrowing experiences of a young boy grappling with the unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust. I immersed myself in the pages of this gripping account at a pivotal juncture in my own life, embarking on a journey of self-discovery while seeking a deeper understanding of the intricacies that govern our world.
The book served as a powerful conduit, transporting me vividly into the grim realities that Elie faced. Its haunting and sorrowful chronicle illustrated the atrocities inflicted upon him and his family, serving as a stark reminder that the world can be unfathomably cruel to individuals who are utterly innocent and merely aspire to lead their lives. The lasting impression of "Night" continues to resonate with me, provoking occasional reflections on contemporary events and drawing poignant parallels between the injustices of Elie's era and those unfolding in the present day. This heightened awareness underscores the various factors contributing to such calamities, emphasizing the relentless march of the world, undeterred by the persisting horrors that many choose to overlook.
In addition to "Night," Elie Wiesel penned other noteworthy works such as "Day" and "Dawn," both of which I have yet to explore but aspire to read when time permits. Upon closer inspection, I discovered that these books are fictional narratives rooted in the Holocaust or events stemming from it. The revelation that Wiesel ventured into the realm of fiction surprised me, yet I am eager to delve into these works, contemplating how the medium of fiction may afford him greater options in expressing the profound emotional and psychological impact of his traumatic Holocaust experiences, an outlet perhaps not fully achievable through non-fiction.
Further enriching my understanding, I learned that Elie Wiesel passed away in 2016. I hope that he found peace in his final moments, knowing that his literary legacy has not only profoundly moved me but has also left an unforgettable impression on countless others.
During moments of contemplation, I find myself immersed in introspection, wondering whether the sentiments and concerns I harbor today mirror those experienced by individuals amidst the tumultuous events of World War II. As I navigate through current events, juxtaposing them against the life Elie Wiesel lived, the parallels and disparities only serve to underscore the enduring relevance of "Night." Its ability to compel contemplation on the enduring echoes of history in our contemporary world remains a testament to the profound impact of Wiesel's literary contributions.
