Bold Simple Pleasures Scholarship
I believe that in life, it is the littlest things that are portrayed with the biggest value. The simplest words such as please and thank you, are very much appreciated and have meaning behind them. Kindness goes a long way. When someone holds the door for me, it brightens up my day because there are those who wouldn't do it, even though you are right behind them and I have experienced it many times.
I am extremely big on respect, having manners is a huge contributor to that. Knowing how to respond to certain people is important. You can talk to your friends with slang but it should not be said when speaking to an adult and a person with extreme class, its unacceptable. Growing up my mother always taught me that when someone goes to your house, you should always offer them a drink. Even if their answer is no, it does not matter, its about making them feel welcomed, still to this day I continue to do that.
When it comes to small gestures, such as flowers and hand written cards they make me happy. Its not about the price but rather the fact that its the thought that counts. I feel like when it comes to gift giving, the brand of an item or where it comes from should not matter. I always appreciate anything that I have received on holidays because I know not everyone is able to purchase gifts. Overall, not getting a gift at all does not bother me because my friends and families presence is worth more than a present because they are already the best gift I could ever receive.
Bold Caring for Seniors Scholarship
The presence of the elderly speaks highly for itself. Their life experiences and the battles they faced during their day in age is extremely worth listening to. I often catch myself drawn to the life stories they talk about because the way they describe how the world was back then is breathtaking. I believe that they talk about their life when they were growing up to education those that do not have much knowledge on certain topics which is why seniors should be cherish. I never understood why family members put their grandparents and their own parent in nursing homes.
I can't imagine the pain, sadness, and loneliness they must feel knowing their own loved ones do not want them around. I always make sure to call my grandparents every week to check up on them. My grandma means a lot to me and recently she has been struggling with her blood pressure because it keeps rising and she feels lonely at times due to everyone being busy. But despite us living hours away from each other. I always take the time out of my day to call her because she will often talk about the past and the stories are very interesting. But hearing how excited she gets talking about it fills me up with joy and knowing that she is doing well is all I desire.
I believe that talking to the elderly and asking about their past experiences makes them feel special because knowing they have someone who actually cares about them and their well being is all they ever ask for. I enjoy putting smiles on their faces and just making sure they know I care because they deserve to feel loved instead of feeling like a burden or forgotten because they will always be irreplaceable.
