As a single mother my children's needs must come before my own. The ability to continue my education with any reduction to loan amounts will ensure that I can provide more for my boys. My goal is to become a dermatologist. My youngest son has a dermatological condition that could affect his life drastically around puberty, I plan to be ready to tackle a treatment and care plan with the most knowledge possible to minimize the amount his life is disrupted. Being a mother is not easy, being a mother and student is a new level of exhausted that I did not know could even exist. My oldest son has severe autism and is non-verbal and I moved to Florida because of a special program I found here for him.
I like to think that I was led to Florida to get back on my feet and give my boys the future they deserve, I am doing this by going back to school. Working hard is what all mothers do, we all want the best for our children, I want my children to be like any other kids. With both of my boys having conditions that set them apart from others I try to work twice as hard to make sure I can provide every tool they could ever use to fill those gaps. Therapies to medications, the most advanced and helpful things are what I plan to give my boys so they cannot just function in society but thrive and make the world a better place for future generations of people like them. Scholarships would take an unprecedented amount of stress off of me, I have a long way to go, and it is an expensive road to travel.
I currently do not work, my alimony runs out this year and child support is not enough to live off of, I am working towards 4.0 semesters at UNF. Besides one "C" in organic chemistry II, after 11 years away from school and the fundamental practice of chemistry, I have achieved "A's" and continue to do so. No one will work harder than I will because I am not trying to figure out what to be when I grow up, I already know, I am a mother. Providing for my boys is my goal, being able to give them the level of things they need cannot be done on the average American middle-class income. Not only will a medical degree aid my youngest son in the battle he has ahead, but it will financially provide the therapies and care my oldest son will need well after I am gone. I thank you for your consideration in achieving my goal, failure is not an option and I deeply appreciate all the help I can get.
