Working inside a courthouse as a Judicial Law Clerk has taught me that the law is not simply about statutes, procedures, or courtroom arguments. At its core, the legal system is about people. Every case file represents someone’s hardship, a family in crisis, or an individual seeking fairness and stability during a difficult moment in their life. Seeing these realities every day has shaped both my educational goals and my desire to make a meaningful difference in the legal field.
One of the most influential parts of my education has been the reading and study required in my legal coursework. Through textbooks, case studies, and legal analysis, I have learned how the law develops through precedent, interpretation, and the changing needs of society. Reading about landmark cases and legal principles helped me understand how carefully structured legal systems protect individual rights while also maintaining order within society. More importantly, these readings reinforce something I witness daily in the courthouse: the law is constantly evolving, and thoughtful legal professionals play a critical role in improving how justice is administered.
While academic learning has shaped my understanding of the law, my personal experiences have also deeply influenced my goals. Several years ago, I experienced a period of significant mental health challenges following a serious injury and major life changes. Navigating recovery during that time required counseling, support from family and friends, and a renewed focus on personal resilience. That experience taught me that mental health struggles are far more common than many people realize and that compassion and understanding are essential when working with individuals facing difficult circumstances.
Because of this experience, I have become more aware of how mental health can intersect with the legal system. Many individuals who enter courtrooms are dealing not only with legal issues but also with emotional stress, trauma, and uncertainty. My own experiences have strengthened my belief that professionals within the legal field must approach their work with both knowledge and empathy.
Returning to school became an important step in transforming those experiences into purpose. While continuing to work full-time as a Judicial Law Clerk and raising my son, I pursued my Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. I am currently enrolled in Criminal Justice courses and will begin completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Paralegal Studies at Liberty University this fall.
My goal is to continue building the legal knowledge and professional skills necessary to support the fair and effective administration of justice. Working within the court system has shown me that the legal process can often feel confusing and intimidating for individuals unfamiliar with it. One social issue I hope to address through my career is the gap between legal systems and the people they serve. Many individuals struggle to understand legal procedures, paperwork, and court expectations, which can make an already stressful situation even more overwhelming.
Through my education and career, I hope to help bridge that gap by supporting legal professionals and contributing to systems that make legal processes more accessible and understandable. Whether assisting attorneys, supporting court operations, or helping individuals navigate complex legal procedures, I want my work to promote clarity, fairness, and dignity for the people affected by the legal system.
Education has allowed me to turn personal challenges into motivation and growth. By continuing my studies and expanding my role within the legal field, I hope to contribute to a system that not only upholds the law but also recognizes the humanity of the people it serves.
