Anthony Bruder Memorial Scholarship
I'm a high school senior and I competed in over 9 sports in my life, ballet at 2 or 3 years old, rock climbing at 4 or 5 years old ( I don't really remember the exact age), soccer at 7 years old with the Copperas Cove Bulls soccer team (Not for school), tumbling when I moved to Copperas Cove in 2016 and I joined the Royals Gymnastics team, one summer I took swimming lessons and Kung Fu classes, when I graduated middle school, I joined the tennis team because it reminds me when I was little and I used to play California doubles with my family and I played singles as a JV player until my junior year and played as a varsity player and I won 2 silver medals. I'm currently a RAW powerlifter in a weight class of 123 and I found my most favorite sport that I enjoy. Even since I was little, I enjoy competing sports and staying active.
When I joined in the powerlifting team with girls, there are a lot of competitors who are wearing singlet/suits, knee wraps, wrist wraps and bench daddies in their training days and I'm pretty much the only senior who is a Raw lifter because there are most Raw lifters who are freshmen. Since school started, I started training for 6 months before my very first competition and started to learn about the three lifts in powerlifting: squat, bench press and deadlift. At first I didn't train with the equipment like the belt because I'm getting used to the squat and deadlift and learning the basics before I start lifting heavy weight and when I start training with the belt, I feel like that I'm ready. When I performed my very first competition, I was excited but extremely nervous but I have a cool coach and team who understands how I feel and gives me support and when I performed my opening squat, it was so scary. I remember the time when my coach tells me you got this and I felt pumped up for it and my teammates cheering me on for some time and I feel like that performing in a meet is wasn't scary and guess what, I wasn't nervous anymore throughout my first competition and won 6th place.
I been enjoying this hypertrophy sport throughout my senior year because I get to achieve my goals by training harder by adding weight than my last set and I learned a lot of things as a powerlifter like having someone to spot me, just because I know the lift doesn't mean I get to do it by yourself, if I'm doing a heavy lift, I need to have a some one to spot me because having a spotter is not optional otherwise I might face dangerous consequences like serious injuries like muscle tears, broken arms or legs and worse even death and when I my competitions comes up, I'm more likely to get nervous because I'm getting used to this sport and I learn how to be prepared mentally and physically like getting plenty of rest, staying hydrated, packing plenty of snacks for my competitions, eating carbs because my body needs the carbs to fuel my muscles and protein for muscle growth and when I start to get shocks in my stomach I close my eyes and take a deep breath and I always remember to do my best and forget the rest and have a team with a cool coach who's there with me and my teammates to cheer me on and pump me up.

When I first played tennis, I had a hard time keeping up with other players and at first I didn't run as fast as other players during strength and conditioning training and I wasn't strong as others in the weight room and when I learned from tennis is that I have to train hard and push myself and I learned how to take better of my body by drinking plenty of electrolyte fluids like Gatorade, getting more carbs in my diet for more energy when I play and getting plenty of rest (8-10 hours). Throughout my tennis journey, I start to learn how I play better like when I lose to a match or tournament I learned that everything is not about winning it's about what you need to improve on before the next match like being on your toes and never take your eyes off of the ball when the other player returns it back towards you and focus what you need to improve on and the more you improve on your form, the more you start building muscle memory and get into the groove to the movement of your swing and your serve and most importantly, have fun.
When I first join in the powerlifting team, I didn't have a belt because I started this sport later than others and they were returning to this sport and I learned the three lifts of powerlifting: the squat, bench press and deadlifts and learn the keys to a good lift like keeping my chest up when doing a squat and deadlift and when you do a bench press, make sure that your head, shoulders and butt stays in contact with the bench and your feet stays in contact against the ground and because you know the technique of the squat and bench doesn't mean that you can do it by yourself and you need to have a spotter and it's not optional because if you don't have a spotter, you may face dangerous consequences of it like serious injury because powerlifting is about heavy lifting and it focuses on building muscle. When I started training, I learned how I take care of my body while recovering like drinking plenty of fluids, getting plenty of rest, getting protein in (1 gram per pound depending on weight class) to grow some muscle and make sure that I stretch my muscle before and after training and when I got my belt, I make sure that is snug and not too tight when I do my squats and deadlift.
Throughout my powerlifting journey, I start to lift more weight and sometimes I got to trust the process because some lifters on the team do the same weight and show little to no process, for me I slowly add weight by 5 to 10 pounds to feel the intensely of the lift and ramp up some volume and I write down the exercise and the weight that I done to track my progress to reach my goals.
Trust the process, Stay the Course, Conquer.
Lucent Scholarship
When I was in elementary school, I used to read library books about the human body and I grew a huge passion of the human body because I'm not just good at this topic I'm also curious about the functions of the body and I took medical term class in my junior year and I enjoyed learning about the types of diseases, conditions and disorders of each body system and when I learn about each body system and the diseases I draw the body system of it and write down the function of it and the definitions of the diseases and treatments to it. Back in middle school in 7th grade, I did a lab that represents how the digestive system works. My favorite body system is the muscular system because it focuses on how it connects to the skeletal system.
When I was younger, I used to build inventions that comes in the mail every month and tinker and play with it, it's called Tinker Crates that is part of the Kiwico and I enjoyed it because I like to work with my hands and I when I got older, I started to build things that are from Rokr which they laser cut pieces that are made of wood and it's more advanced and favorite one is when built a motorcycle and I built a printer press and a music box and my mom displayed on top the piano to represent a masterpiece from myself. When I was a freshman, I was only girl who took welding and construction classes and I earned a certification for completing a course for construction class in my junior year.
I used to help my dad when he is putting in upgrade for his car like headlights, a new touchscreen and new light bulbs for the tail lights and whether there's something that requires assembly I usually put it together for them and I remember installing two new TVs for me and my brother by myself without asking my dad to help me by drilling proper hole into the wall that hit a stud and after I finished installing it, I started to feel proud of myself because I never install something big without having someone to help me. I remember that my brother got a new drum set for Christmas I installed it by putting together the cymbals and the drums and connect it with the wire to the device that can be connected to Bluetooth and I putted together a gaming for his birthday.

I'm going to become a biomechanical engineer and build prosthetics that is powered by the brain and connected to bones, muscles, blood vessels and nerves, and I'm going to help people who are born with one to no limbs walk again and do what they wanted to do like playing sports. I been planning about Texas A&M University at College Station because it has a good engineering school and I had a passion of this campus. I also been planning about University at Texas at Austin which it also has a good engineering school, Central Texas College and Tarleton State University which I take dual credit pre-calculus for it. While studying biomechanics, I also plan to do powerlifting in college because I been enjoying this sport since high school and I like building muscle. When I was in elementary school, I used to read library books that is about the human body and I grew a huge passion about this topic because I'm not just good at it I'm also curious about how the human body works and what the functions are and when I was a high school freshman, I had a hard time fitting around and making friends here because high school was new to me and I used to play tennis and I was the only girl in welding and construction classes and after my freshman year, I felt like that I belong in this campus and learned what high school is like.
This scholarship reminds me that I'm going to be the first kid in my family to graduate high school and I couldn't believe that I'm going through 4 years of high school and there's going to be ups and downs when it comes to going to college and I going to miss my family and my high school because this campus brings me a lot of memories and the people that love me including my teachers, coaches and my school counselor believed in me and I might worry that I never see them again for the rest of my life. This scholarship is going to help me with student loans and help me pay for meals and books because I plan to live on campus to minimize traveling time between home and college.
This scholarship is going to help me get started on student loans because I'm going to be a college freshman after I graduate high school.
