Maggie's Way- International Woman’s Scholarship
As an international women student from Nepal, I have had the privilege of experiencing different cultures and perspectives throughout my academic journey. This experience has not only broadened my horizons but has also allowed me to appreciate the unique qualities of my own culture.
Growing up in a patriarchal society I have faced additional challenges in pursuing my academic dreams. I have witnessed the struggles that many women face in pursuing education and achieving independence. The cultural expectations of women to be dependent on their husbands and prioritize family duties over personal goals often limit their potential. However, I do not want to be defines as only wife, daughter or mother. I want to have my own identity. I wanted to pursue education and achieve independence so that I can see my potential of myself as a woman. That's how I figured out the importance of education and hard work from a young age.
I had a dream to come to the United States to find more opportunities. I moved to the US after high school by myself and started my journey by working full-time as well as full-time student. I am a current dental hygiene student at the Utah college of dental hygiene. As a dental hygiene student, I am passionate about using my skills to help underserved communities. I believe that everyone deserves access to quality dental care, regardless of their socio-economic status or location. My passion for public health drives me to seek opportunities to serve these communities and improve oral health outcomes for all.
My journey as an international student has been both challenging and rewarding. I have faced language barriers, cultural differences, and financial difficulties as well as family pressure to get married so I could hand over my responsibility to another man. I am applying for this scholarship because I want to continue my education and pursue my dreams. I do not want to be dependent on a husband or anyone else for my financial security. I want to prove to myself and others that women are just as capable as men and can achieve great things when given the opportunity.
However, these challenges have taught me the importance of perseverance and adaptability. Studying in a foreign country has also allowed me to learn about different cultures and perspectives. I have made friends from all over the world and have learned about their customs and traditions. This experience has broadened my perspective and has taught me to appreciate the beauty of diversity.
I had to eliminate my introverted, submissive personality and learn to be outspoken, grow to be independent and grab opportunities. I have been fortunate to be surrounded by supportive mentors who have encouraged and inspired me. I have also had the opportunity to attend conferences and workshops focused on empowering women. These experiences have taught me the importance of women supporting other women and have inspired me to be an advocate for gender equality.
My experience as an international women student from one a developing country like Nepal has taught me the importance of education, hard work, perseverance, and adaptability. It has also allowed me to appreciate the beauty in diversity and has inspired me to be an advocate for gender equality. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had and am excited to continue to learn and grow as a student and as a person. I believe one day I can have the skills and knowledge to give back to the community. My biggest goal is to servent a community that needs my experience and knowledge.
Yan Scholarship
I am a minority, immigrant student in need of financial assistance to pursue my educational goals. As a first-generation college student, I understand the importance of a college education and the opportunities it can provide. I am determined to make the most of my college experience and to make a positive impact on my community. Growing up in a small country Nepal I have seen firsthand the financial struggle of my parents to meet the ends on an everyday basis. The main reason that I decided to get a college education is to be someone in society and have the ability to give it back to society as well as uplift my family from the low income. Now I have realized my determination also requires lots of financial support.
My family has limited financial resources, and I am facing the prospect of taking out a large number of student loans to cover my tuition and other expenses. Thinking about repaying a lot of student loans and the interest scares me have my goals and dream to finish my college education. But I am committed to working hard and making the most of my college experience, but I need help to make this dream a reality.
I am confident that I have the skills and determination to succeed in college and beyond. I am a hard worker and have a strong academic record. I am also involved in my community and have volunteered my time to help those in need. I am passionate about making a difference in the world and I believe that a college education is the best way to do that.
I have worked 2 jobs to save up money for my education. I am planning on applying for scholarships. I already have some student loans for my first year of college and I am afraid that I will end up having more student loans. I want to avoid paying loans for a long time and give back to my parents after I start working. My parents have struggled a lot and still provided me with education therefore I am here in America trying to pursue my dream.
I am asking for your help in making my college dreams a reality. I understand the importance of a college education and I am committed to making the most of it. With your help, I can make a positive impact on my community and the world. Thank you for your consideration.
