Hello, my name is Sahil. My mom and I live in a two-bedroom apartment together. Our lives have not been easy so far. Coming from an Afghan background, my mother was married at a young age, barely completing high school. Being a 19-year-old girl, she gave birth to me; 15 years later, she divorced my father. Though my mother divorced my father 15 years later, he was only present in my life for 2 years. This has not affected me; in fact, it has grown my bond with my mother even closer. I may not be able to go out on the weekends like others, I know, I may not be able to have a car for my birthday like others, I know, and I will not have my college paid for like others, I know; yet, these factors do not put me down. I strive for more success, discipline, and achievement day by day. There are many things to learn when you are at a low state, one of the biggest is that highs feel higher and lows feel lower. When I started my first business, I tutored other students in math and reading. When I first started, I had 5 of my friends working with me, and when I landed my first customer, I was ecstatic. I attended the first tutoring session to train my friend and to monitor the student, it felt like I found my yellow brick road. It was all going well until the tutor told me he had to stop tutoring. This did not affect me significantly because it was not much of an issue for me to bear the responsibility of tutoring my student. This was the case, but before I knew it, I spent so much time tutoring one student that I did not have enough time to expand my business to more people. On the bright side, my tutoring was very effective because the student got their grade up from a C to an A, but they shortly stopped attending for that reason. A couple of months passed since then, and I got news that my aunt, who was suffering from cancer for two years, passed away. Even though she was my aunt, she was only 3 years older, she felt more like my sister. I was at my lowest point in my life, everything was falling apart. Undoubtedly, I was struggling at this point. Though it did not affect my grades much, and nobody noticed any differences, I felt like a tumbleweed, alone, drifting through a desert. This was until I had a waking moment, one Saturday morning, when I woke up and felt a sudden uplift. I realized how low I had gotten, though it was a steep fall, the rise was not. I made my bed and immediately went for a walk, even though I am severely allergic to pollen; it did not stop me from hiking through my local forest. The fall I took showed me that life can get difficult, yet through sheer will, any human at any time can overcome any obstacle.
