Beyond my love for golf, I have always had a deep passion for working with children. As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to become an elementary school teacher. There is something incredibly rewarding about helping young minds grow and seeing them reach their potential. Through volunteer work at local schools and tutoring younger students, I’ve witnessed firsthand the impact a dedicated and compassionate teacher can have on a child’s development. These experiences have solidified my decision to pursue a career in education.

Electric Cycle Studio Student Athlete Scholarship
As a recent high school graduate, being both a student and an athlete has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. Balancing school, sports, and personal goals has tested my limits and taught me lessons I will carry far beyond graduation. I am proud to be a student-athlete in California, and I believe that the qualities I have developed with dedication, teamwork, and resilience, define who I am both in the classroom and on the golf course.
My journey began the first time I picked up a golf club. I was younger than most of the players around me, but I quickly realized that golf was not just a sport; it was a discipline. It demanded focus, patience, and emotional control. There are no shortcuts in golf. You must work for every stroke, reflect on every round, and be honest with yourself. Over time, I learned that this sport mirrors life in more ways than one. Sometimes you hit the ball perfectly and sometimes you land in a sand trap, but either way, you keep going.
As a varsity golfer throughout high school, I dedicated countless hours to practice and competition. Early mornings, late nights, and weekends on the course became the norm. But I never allowed my athletic commitment to take away from my academics. I maintained a 4.0 GPA while taking honors and AP courses. It has not always been easy, but I have learned how to manage my time, stay organized, and remain committed to my goals.
My teammates have played a huge role in shaping my character. Golf may seem like an individual sport, but being part of a team has shown me the importance of encouragement and support. We celebrate each other’s wins and lift each other during losses. Whether someone has a bad day on the course or is going through something personal, we show up for each other. That spirit of community is what keeps us strong, and I carry that same energy into every part of my life.
Outside of school and sports, I also give back through community service. I volunteer with younger students at local elementary schools, offering tutoring and mentorship. I know how much it means to have someone believe in you, especially at a young age, and I want to be that person for others. I also help coach younger athletes during summer golf camps, encouraging young girls to believe in themselves in a sport where they may not always feel represented.
Being a student-athlete has helped me discover who I am. I have learned to push through pressure, to stay grounded in my values, and to never settle for less than my best. My experiences have not only prepared me for college but also for life. I plan to pursue a degree in elementary education and continue competing in golf at the collegiate level. My goal is to become a teacher who helps students grow with confidence and a coach who builds strong, compassionate athletes.
This scholarship would mean more than financial help. It would be a recognition of everything I have worked for and a reminder that hard work and character do not go unnoticed. I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story and for communities like Electric Cycle Studio that believe in student-athletes and the power we have to shape the future. Now I get to put all my work to realty and play golf in college! I am so excited for the next chapter.
Constance W. Thompson Empowerment Scholarship
From a young age, I’ve believed that education is more than just learning from textbooks, it’s about helping people discover who they are and what they’re capable of. As a young woman who found her voice through the support of teachers, coaches, and mentors, I’m committed to passing that same encouragement on to others. I want to become an elementary school teacher not only to teach reading and math, but to nurture confidence, especially in young girls. This passion for education and empowerment reflects the legacy of Constance W. Thompson, a woman whose life’s work resonates deeply with my goals, values, and heart.
I was never the loudest in the room. In fact, as a child, I often second-guessed myself. That started to change in third grade, when my teacher, Mrs. Minor noticed I was struggling with reading out loud. She didn’t call me out; she invited me to read with her during lunch. Every day, she gave me time, patience, and gentle encouragement. Over time, I grew stronger, not just as a reader, but as a person. That quiet belief she had in me planted a seed that has grown into my own dream of becoming a teacher who makes students feel seen, valued, and capable.
In high school, I’ve leaned into leadership opportunities and community service that align with women’s empowerment. I’ve volunteered at local elementary schools, mentored younger girls in after-school programs, and participated in leadership workshops designed to help girls build self-confidence. I also coach younger athletes on the golf team, helping them not only improve their game but also believe in their ability to lead and succeed. I know firsthand how impactful it can be for a girl to be told, “You’ve got this,” by someone who’s walked that path.
As a 4-year varsity athlete, I’ve learned perseverance, discipline, and the value of team support, traits I carry with me into every area of my life. Golf, like life, requires quiet strength and mental resilience. These qualities are especially important for young girls to develop early on, and I want to be part of that process in their lives. I believe every girl deserves someone in her corner reminding her that she’s enough, and that she has the power to shape her future, no matter where she starts.
My goal is to become an elementary school teacher in an underserved community and create a classroom where girls (and all students) are encouraged to speak up, take risks, and lead. I want to integrate lessons about historical women leaders, encourage creative expression, and build a classroom culture that celebrates differences and empowers every voice. Long-term, I hope to start an after-school mentoring program for girls that combines tutoring, confidence-building workshops, and leadership training.
The Constance W. Thompson Memorial Scholarship would support me not just financially, but emotionally, it would tell me that the work I care about matters. Ms. Thompson’s life reminds me that uplifting others is a form of leadership, and that empowered women truly do empower others. I’m committed to living out that mission every day, both in and out of the classroom.
Thank you for honoring her legacy and for considering students like me who hope to make a difference, one student, one classroom, and one voice at a time.
Alice M. Williams Legacy Scholarship
Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. It wasn’t just about the idea of standing in front of a classroom or writing on a whiteboard, it was about the feeling I got when I helped someone understand something for the first time. That “aha” moment has always inspired me. As I’ve grown, so has that passion. Today, I’m not only preparing to pursue a degree in elementary education but also working to become the kind of educator who makes a lasting impact, just like Alice M. Williams did in her community.
What draws me most to education is the opportunity to shape young minds, not just academically, but emotionally and socially. I believe teaching is about more than test scores; it’s about creating a space where students feel safe, seen, and inspired. I’ve experienced this firsthand from teachers who went the extra mile for me, especially Mrs. Minor, my third-grade teacher. I struggled with reading at the time, and instead of letting me fall behind, she read with me during her lunch breaks. Her kindness and dedication made all the difference in my confidence and future. I want to be that kind of teacher for someone else.
In high school, I’ve pursued this calling by volunteering in local elementary classrooms, tutoring young students, and helping lead community reading nights. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the classroom environment and taught me how powerful encouragement and patience can be. I’ve also taken part in events that promote cultural literacy, such as multicultural fairs, book drives, and student-led panels on inclusion. I believe that celebrating diverse voices and experiences is key to building compassionate, informed students, and I want to embed that belief into my future classroom.
Outside of education, I’m also a dedicated athlete. As a 4-year varsity golfer, I’ve learned discipline, focus, and resilience, skills that are just as important in teaching as they are in sports. Golf has taught me how to stay calm under pressure, how to support my teammates, and how to work steadily toward long-term goals. I plan to bring this mindset into my career as an educator: consistent, steady, and committed to growth.
I admire how Alice M. Williams used her passion for education and the arts to uplift not just her students, but her entire community. That’s the kind of legacy I hope to create. With a degree in elementary education, I want to teach in underserved communities and offer all children, not just the ones with privilege, access to quality education and opportunities for creative expression. I want to help my students find their voice, their strength, and their confidence, just as others helped me.
This scholarship would allow me to continue my studies with less financial stress and more focus on becoming the best educator I can be. I am grateful for the opportunity to carry on the spirit of Alice M. Williams and honor her lifelong dedication to learning, community, and growth.
Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
My name is Rylee Salas-Hubbard, and I am a recent high school graduate with a 4.0 GPA, a 4-year varsity athlete, and a passionate future educator. I’m applying for the Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship because I see her legacy reflected in the way I strive to live, with drive, purpose, and heart. This scholarship would not only support my educational journey but also help me carry forward the kind of excellence, joy, and service Kalia embodied. I am truly sorry for the loss of Kalia. She was beautiful and sincerely send my deepest condolences to her family and friends.
Golf has been one of the most defining parts of my high school experience. I’ve spent countless hours practicing, competing, and growing not just as an athlete but as a person. The game requires focus, discipline, and resilience, all qualities I’ve developed through both victories and setbacks. I've learned how to stay calm under pressure, how to bounce back from a bad shot, and how to carry myself with grace, no matter the score. My experiences in golf have taught me that greatness comes not from talent alone, but from consistent effort, a strong mindset, and a refusal to give up.
Outside of sports, I’ve always been drawn to helping others. I regularly volunteer in classrooms and at local elementary schools, tutoring young students and assisting teachers. These moments have sparked my passion for education. I want to become an elementary school teacher because I believe in the power of nurturing young minds and inspiring students to reach their potential. Just like Kalia inspired her peers with kindness and excellence, I hope to do the same in my future classroom.
One of the people who inspired this dream was my third-grade teacher, Mrs. Minor. I struggled with reading aloud, and she took the time to read with me every day during lunch. Her belief in me changed everything. I want to be that kind of teacher, someone who sees potential in every child and helps them grow not just academically, but as confident, kind human beings.
Balancing school, sports, and community involvement has never been easy, but it’s taught me the value of time management, hard work, and self-discipline. Like Kalia, I aim to give my very best in every area of my life. Whether it’s showing up early for practice, helping a younger student, or leading group projects in school, I want to be someone others can rely on, someone who makes a positive impact.
This scholarship would help me pursue my education at Vanguard University, where I plan to major in Liberal Studies / Elementary Education while competing on the women’s golf team. It would ease the financial burden on my family and allow me to focus on both academics and athletics without compromise.
Kalia D. Davis lived with passion, integrity, and joy. I hope to honor her memory by living in that same spirit, learning deeply, loving others well, and leading with quiet strength. Thank you for considering my application and for keeping her legacy alive by supporting students like me.
Marie Humphries Memorial Scholarship
Ever since I was little, I’ve dreamed of becoming an elementary school teacher. I’ve always felt a natural connection with kids, their curiosity, their honesty, and their endless potential. Volunteering in classrooms and tutoring younger students has only deepened that desire. Watching a child finally grasp a new concept, or light up with pride over their progress, reminds me why I want to dedicate my life to education.
One teacher, in particular, changed my life. Mrs. Minor, my third-grade teacher, made me feel seen when I didn’t believe in myself. Her patience and encouragement gave me the confidence to keep trying, even when I struggled. I hope to become that kind of teacher, someone who builds her students up, fosters joy in learning, and helps every child realize their worth.
Becoming an elementary school teacher has always felt more like a calling than a career choice. From a young age, I was drawn to the energy of a classroom, the hum of curiosity, the flash of understanding when a concept clicks, and the warm feeling of connection between teacher and student. But this dream didn’t take root overnight. It grew because of one teacher who saw something in me before I could see it in myself.
One moment with Mrs. Minor stands out the most. I had struggled with reading aloud, often stumbling over words and avoiding eye contact when it was my turn. One afternoon, during silent reading, she pulled me aside and handed me a book, Charlotte’s Web. “I think you’ll like this one,” she said. “Let’s read it together during lunch this week.” And we did. Every day, she sat beside me and helped me read, never rushing, never correcting too harshly. She celebrated every little success. That experience changed how I saw myself. I wasn’t just a struggling reader anymore; I was someone worth investing in.
Mrs. Minor taught me the power of belief. She didn’t just teach math and spelling, she taught me to be confident, to be curious, and most importantly, to care about others. That’s the kind of teacher I want to be. Today, I consider her my friend and mentor.
My goal as an elementary school teacher is to create the same safe and inspiring space Mrs. Minor gave me. I want to meet children where they are, with empathy and patience, and help them grow into confident learners. I believe that early education is not just about academics; it’s about shaping how children see themselves and the world. I want my classroom to be a place where mistakes are welcomed as part of learning, where diversity is celebrated, and where every child feels seen and valued.
Children deserve teachers who believe in them even when they don’t yet believe in themselves. Mrs. Minor showed me what that looks like. She changed my life not with grand gestures, but with quiet, consistent care. If I can give even one child the kind of encouragement she gave me, I’ll consider my journey as a teacher a success. I’m not just becoming a teacher, I’m continuing the legacy of someone who taught with heart, and whose impact still echoes in everything I do.
Thank you for your consideration for this scholarship. I am humbled for the opportunity.
Female Athleticism Scholarship
Breaking Barriers Through Balance: How Golf, School, and Life Shaped Me Into a Stronger Female in a Male-Dominated World
Being a female golfer has taught me strength in more ways than one. From navigating a sport traditionally dominated by men to balancing rigorous academic demands, extracurricular activities, and community service, I’ve learned to carry myself with confidence, discipline, and determination. Golf has not only sharpened my skills on the course, but it has also strengthened my voice and identity as a young woman in a world that doesn’t always expect us to lead.
Golf is a game of precision, patience, and mental toughness. As the first female CIF golfer at my high school, I didn’t have a team to walk into or a role model to follow; I had to become the example. That meant showing up every day and proving with each swing and scorecard that I belonged. I earned MVP three straight years not because it was easy, but because I refused to let discomfort or doubt hold me back. That experience taught me to persevere in the face of being underestimated and to turn isolation into motivation.
My scholarship to Vanguard University in Costa Mesa is more than an athletic achievement—it’s a symbol of the countless hours I’ve poured into this sport, even when no one was watching. I golf every day that I can, not because I have to, but because I love the challenge. And through that love, I’ve developed resilience, focus, and a strong sense of purpose; qualities that extend far beyond the fairways.
Academically, I’ve held a 4.0 GPA throughout high school, even while managing a demanding golf schedule. Being part of the Teachers of Tomorrow class and serving as a student aid has allowed me to grow as a mentor and leader. Volunteering at local schools has also deepened my passion for giving back and supporting the next generation, especially young girls who, like me, may be stepping into spaces where they feel alone or overlooked. I want them to see that it’s possible to excel at a high level in school, sports, and service without having to compromise who you are.
Balancing school, sports, and life has given me a strong foundation of time management, self-discipline, and confidence. More importantly, it has taught me that strength isn’t just physical, it’s emotional and mental. It’s having the courage to speak up when you’re the only girl in the room. It’s holding yourself to a high standard because you know others are watching. And it’s lifting others as you climb, especially those who come after you.
In a world where male dominance is still very present in sports, business, and leadership, I am proud to be part of the change. I know that each barrier I break, every stereotype I challenge, and every young girl I mentor adds to a much larger impact. I’m not just playing for myself, I’m playing for those who haven’t yet found their swing.
Through golf, academics, and community service, I have become a stronger, more resilient female voice, ready to lead in any space I enter.
T's Golf Foundation Scholarship
WinnerMy Grandfather, My Hero: Michael R. Salas
Not all heroes wear capes—some wear Navy uniforms, carry golf clubs, and never miss a tournament. My grandfather, Michael R. Salas, is my hero, biggest supporter, and one of the greatest influences in my life. At 84 years old, he embodies strength, love, and unwavering dedication—to his country and to me.
A proud United States Navy veteran, Grandpa’s service was rooted in discipline, courage, and commitment to something greater than himself. His stories—always told with humility—taught me about sacrifice, honor, and integrity. These values have shaped who I am and who I strive to be.
Beyond his military service, my grandpa has always been my most loyal cheerleader, especially when it comes to golf. Golf isn’t just a sport for us—it’s our bond. Even now, he insists on golfing with me whenever he can, walking the course slowly but steadily, offering advice, laughs, and support. No matter how early the tee time or how far the drive, he’s there, cheering me on. His presence on the fairway is a reminder of his deep love and commitment.
When I committed to play golf at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California, grandpa was overjoyed. I’ll never forget his proud smile and the emotional hug he gave me. He reminded me that success isn’t just built on talent but on character—and he’s helped me develop both. His unwavering belief in me fuels my drive, even on the toughest days.
Grandpa has helped mold me into an honorable young woman through his example. He’s honest, kind, and present—qualities I admire deeply. He’s shown me that being honorable means standing up for what’s right, respecting others, and never forgetting those who’ve helped you along the way. Most importantly, he’s shown me that simply showing up, time after time, is one of the greatest acts of love.
I started playing golf at the age of three and began competing seriously in 2019. Since then, the sport has become an essential part of my life. It’s taught me patience, discipline, and resilience—lessons that apply far beyond the golf course. In the fall of 2025, I’ll begin my journey as a student-athlete on Vanguard’s women’s golf team, excited to grow both on and off the course.
My ultimate goal is to play at the highest level I can, but more importantly, to use my platform to give back—especially to the veteran community. Inspired by my grandfather’s service and the impact it’s had on my life, I’m passionate about honoring and supporting veterans however I can.
If awarded this scholarship, I would proudly use it to promote the veteran community and the foundation’s mission throughout my journey. One meaningful way I plan to give back is by organizing a veteran golf tournament—an event to raise funds that cover green fees and lunch for veterans who want to participate. Golf is more than a game; it’s a way to build community, find peace, and stay active. I believe this kind of event could help veterans reconnect, feel appreciated, and enjoy the same joy the sport has brought to my life. I would raise money by donations, offer free lessons for donations and raffle prizes.
Michael R. Salas is more than a veteran. He is my grandfather, my mentor, and the heart behind every swing I take. I carry his spirit with me always—and I hope to honor him with every step of my journey.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Best regards,
Rylee

My name is Rylee Salas-Hubbard, and I believe in the power of persistence, hard work, and community. These values have shaped my academic journey and fueled my passions for both golf and education. I am excited about the opportunity to attend Vanguard University, where I can continue developing as an athlete and future educator while contributing to my community.
From a young age, I understood that success requires talent, determination, and discipline. Over the years, I’ve focused on two main objectives: growing as a competitive golfer and becoming an elementary school teacher. These goals are deeply connected; the discipline, leadership, and communication skills I’ve developed through golf are directly transferable to teaching. Golf has taught me the importance of perseverance, focus, and overcoming challenges, and I want to inspire young minds in the same way my coaches and teachers have inspired me.
My goal is to earn a degree in elementary education and create a nurturing learning environment that fosters a love of learning. Teaching is a profession that shapes individuals and impacts communities. I’m especially passionate about working with young children due to their curiosity and growth potential. Helping them learn and develop is incredibly rewarding, and I am eager to make a difference in their lives.
Golf has been a significant part of my life, teaching me valuable lessons in handling pressure, maintaining a positive attitude, and pushing through personal limitations. Competing at various levels has shown me the importance of resilience and staying focused. I also want to share my love of golf with others and, one day, become a PGA Professional and a golf coach. My ultimate goal is to teach the game, guide players of all ages, and foster their growth both on and off the course.
Community service has always been a cornerstone of my life. I’ve tutored younger students and organized neighborhood clean-up events, finding fulfillment in giving back to others. These experiences have reinforced my desire to become an educator who not only teaches but also mentors. I want to create an environment where children feel supported and inspired to reach their full potential. Through service, I’ve learned that making a difference in the lives of others is one of the most rewarding experiences.
At Vanguard University, I plan to pursue a degree in elementary education while competing on the women’s golf team. Balancing academics and athletics will be challenging, but I believe the skills I’ve gained through golf, such as time management and goal-setting, will help me succeed. I am eager to gain hands-on teaching experience through internships and to collaborate with faculty and peers who share my passion for education. Additionally, I will continue refining my skills with the goal of becoming a golf coach and PGA Professional.
My professional goal is to become a dedicated and compassionate elementary teacher who creates a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom. I want to inspire my students to pursue their passions and embrace the learning process, just as my mentors have inspired me. I also aspire to give back to the golf community by coaching young players and helping them grow in their skills and character.
This scholarship will have a significant impact on my collegiate experience by providing financial support, allowing me to focus on both my academic and athletic pursuits. With this assistance, I can dedicate myself fully to my education and golf career, preparing for a successful future in both fields. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to the Vanguard community and take the next step in my journey.

Golf has been a central part of my life, not only because of my passion for the sport but also because of the valuable lessons it has taught me. Alongside my love for golf, I have a deep passion for working with children and aspire to become an elementary school teacher. This combination of interests has led me to pursue a future that merges both, with a plan to attend Vanguard University, where I can continue my competitive golf career while working toward my degree in education.
From the first time I picked up a golf club, I felt a drive to challenge myself and improve. Golf offers both physical and mental challenges, which push me to become a better athlete and a more disciplined individual. It has instilled in me essential life lessons such as perseverance, sportsmanship, and leadership. These lessons extend beyond the golf course and are crucial in shaping my approach to education and life in general. As I pursue competitive golf at the collegiate level, I aim to use these qualities to inspire and encourage others, whether on the course or in the classroom.
My desire to become a teacher has been shaped by my own experiences in school, especially with my third-grade teacher, who was not only a mentor but also a role model. I struggled at first with connecting to her, but over time, she helped me understand the value of patience, hard work, and dedication. Her influence has been a guiding force in my decision to pursue a career in elementary education. I have also gained experience through volunteer work at local schools and tutoring younger students. These experiences have shown me the profound impact a dedicated teacher can have on a child’s development and have further solidified my dream of becoming an elementary school teacher.
Attending Vanguard University is the next step in realizing my goals. The university’s strong reputation in education, along with its emphasis on faith, academic excellence, and community service, aligns perfectly with my aspirations. I am eager to learn from experienced educators who will help me develop the skills necessary to foster both academic and character development in my students. Vanguard’s commitment to personalized learning will also allow me to grow as an individual, while being part of a supportive community that values service and leadership.
In addition to my academic goals, I am determined to continue competing in golf at the collegiate level. As a female golfer, I have faced unique challenges, including breaking through stereotypes and navigating a sport that has historically been male-dominated. The physical and mental demands of golf can sometimes feel overwhelming, but I have learned to persevere through challenges. One of the biggest obstacles I faced was overcoming the pressure to perform at a high level while managing the balance between academics, athletics, and personal growth. However, through hard work, self-discipline, and a supportive network, I’ve been able to succeed.
Playing golf has been an incredibly rewarding experience because it allows me to grow as an athlete and a person. It has taught me the importance of resilience, and each round, whether successful or not, offers an opportunity to learn and improve. I enjoy the process of constantly refining my skills, setting goals, and challenging myself to perform better each time I step on

I was inspired at the age of nine by my third-grade teacher. We started out with a rocky relationship that quickly turned into a mentorship that I have cherished over the years. She taught me patience, how to work hard at achieving my goals, to be more observant and to teach at a level that all students can understand and absorb. Because of her, I have dedicated my life to becoming an elementary school teacher.
