Disney Channel Rewind Scholarship
From my childhood memories, some of my favorite times were my mornings spent watching Disney Channel shows. I remember laying in my bed binge-watching all of "Ant-Farm," "Wizards of Waverly Place," and "Jessie." (Those were just a few of my favorites). These shows sparked a joy in me that no other television program ever did. I would have to say that the two that stood out to me the most were "Austin and Ally" and "Good Luck Charlie." I could never get enough of either of them. I would rewatch and rewatch episodes over and over. It was my happy place as a young girl.
If I had been allowed to create a crossover episode of my two favorite shows as a kid, I would've freaked! In my wildest dreams of a crossover “Austin and Ally” and “Good Luck Charlie” episode, the Ducan family would be taking a family vacation to Miami! While visiting the family would wander into "Sonic Boom." Where we as fans know as the store the gang works in. While browsing "Sonic Boom," Teddy Duncan would make her way to a piano in the store. Unaware of who works there, she would start playing and singing! When she soon comes to find the one and only Austin Moon hears her wonderful voice, he offers her the chance to perform with him in his upcoming concert!
Like any Disney show, a critical conflict would be upcoming. After saying yes to Austin's offer, Teddy would be hit with a huge mass of anxiety. When thinking over what she had agreed to at lunch one day, Teddy has a huge freak out which lands a very embarrassing video of her on the internet! Back at “Sonic Boom,” Austin and the others see the video of Teddy. Ally, Trish, and Des aren’t sure if Austin should let her perform! Austin sways the others by showing a clip of Teddy singing, which he received from the security cameras. The gang agrees to help Austin get Teddy show-ready within the next few nights!
Teddy and the rest of the gang practice, practice, and practice! Teddy sings to a crowd in Sonic Boom to help ready her for the concert night. When the crowd cheers for her, she is ready and confident for the show night!
When the concert night arrives, Teddy and Austin perform an original song written by Ally and herself. The crowd cheers and cheers! The Duncan family watches her daughter perform with great admiration. The episode ends with everyone standing in “Sonic Boom” and watching a new video of Teddy, at the previous night's performance. Teddy sees all the positive remarks from others who watch. She is grateful to the gang for allowing her to perform and making people forget about her awful freakout from the past week. Each of them hugs goodbye, and the episode ends.
As a huge Disney Channel fan, I would have loved a cross-over episode like this. These shows gave me such a different form of happiness as a kid. Watching was a great escape from the real world, and helped me learn of my passion for the TV and movie industry. I hope one day I will have the opportunity to write TV show episodes like this!
Mad Grad Scholarship
As a long-time movie enthusiast, I have always had an innate ability to give a synopsis of almost any film. For as long as I can remember, I have loved watching movies. My parents were very keen on showing me "the classics" from a young age. The magic created on screen captivated me in every way. The music, the emotion, and the stories conveyed through cinematography could not compare to anything else. At some point along the way, it turned into my greatest passion. About five years ago, I realized that my love for films had turned into a desire to make them of my own, and even after all this time that aspiration has not left me. When I got my first taste of directing and working in pre-production, my passion skyrocketed even further.
The creative process of coming up with the perfect joke or spine-tingling plot twist is what drives me toward a career in filmmaking. In today’s world, everything comes so easily because of technology, and some believe that we should give the magic of movie-making to that technology, but I’ll tell you why I disagree. Our minds are the most powerful source of information and creativity, and that's what makes film the most beautiful form of art. Sure, a computer may have the sources to write a script, but does it have the love? The passion? No, it doesn’t, and for that reason, we can not hand over this glorious profession.
My greatest dream is to share my creativity and talent with the world. I wish to show devotion, crazy thoughts, dramatic plots, and action-packed adventures all on the big screen. I believe firmly that movies and TV shows bring immense happiness to viewers and creators alike. I want to be a part of the group that inspires and brings the same sense of euphoria I get when I dedicate my time to watching. Pursuing my passion for film is what motivates my future, and no advancement in technology will stop me.
