Hi, I’m Rylan, a senior in high school with a story shaped by faith, love, and the connections I hold closest to my heart.
Football has been a big part of my journey. Being on the team taught me about hard work, perseverance, and what it means to stand firm in my Christian faith—even when facing challenges or feeling misunderstood. Those experiences didn’t just make me a better player; they shaped how I see myself and how I communicate with the people around me.
My greatest passion, though, is leading worship at my church. There’s nothing that fulfills me more than praising God and creating a space where others can connect with Him. Whether it’s through music or prayer, I feel called to use my gifts to serve and bring people closer to His presence.
I’m also someone who finds joy in dreaming about the future—especially the life I want to build with the love of my life. I believe it’s the small moments, the knowing smiles, and the shared dreams that make life beautiful.
Through everything, I’ve learned to stay grounded in who I am. Whether I’m leading worship, on the football field, or spending time with the people I care about, I strive to live with heart, faith, and purpose in everything I do.

Faith has been the cornerstone of my journey, shaping my character and guiding my steps toward success. Growing up in a close-knit Christian family, I learned early on the importance of leaning on God during both trials and triumphs. My faith has not only provided me with strength and resilience but has also been a source of hope and purpose as I navigate life’s challenges.
One of the most defining experiences of my life was being a part of my high school football team. While football taught me discipline, teamwork, and perseverance, it also tested my faith in profound ways. As a Christian, I always sought to carry myself with integrity both on and off the field. However, this was not always met with understanding or acceptance. I faced ridicule from some teammates and others for openly expressing my beliefs, including praying before games and maintaining personal convictions. There were moments when I felt isolated and questioned whether I truly belonged.
Despite these challenges, I leaned into my faith even more deeply. I turned to prayer and Scripture to remind myself of my worth and identity in Christ. Verses like Isaiah 41:10, which says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God,” gave me the courage to stand firm in my beliefs. My faith not only sustained me through the persecution but also inspired me to approach those situations with grace and forgiveness.
My faith has also fueled my determination to achieve academic and personal success. I view every opportunity as a gift from God and a chance to honor Him through hard work and dedication. Being a senior preparing for college, I’ve carried lessons from both my faith and football into my studies and relationships. Whether it’s mentoring younger students or volunteering at my church, I strive to use my experiences to inspire others to persevere and stay true to their values.
One of the deepest desires God has placed on my heart is to become a worship leader. Music has always been a powerful way for me to connect with God and help others do the same. I believe that worship has the ability to bring people closer to Him, offering hope, healing, and unity. This calling is the reason I am going to college—to equip myself with the knowledge, skills, and spiritual growth necessary to lead others in worship. I see this path as a way to use the gifts God has given me to glorify Him and make a positive impact on the world.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue relying on my faith as a guiding force. As I pursue higher education and eventually a career in worship ministry, I want to use my platform to make a positive impact on the world. Whether that’s through serving underprivileged communities, advocating for fairness and justice, or mentoring others who face adversity, I aim to reflect the love and hope that my faith has given me. My faith reminds me that success is not just about personal achievements but also about lifting others and living a life of purpose.
This opportunity is meaningful to me because it represents a chance to grow, learn, and further align my actions with my values. It’s an affirmation of how far I’ve come and a stepping stone toward the greater heights I hope to reach. With faith as my foundation, I am confident that I can overcome future challenges and continue to walk the path that God has set before me.
Goobie-Ramlal Education Scholarship
Growing up in an immigrant family, I’ve witnessed firsthand the strength and resilience it takes to pursue a better life in a new country. My grandfather’s journey is the cornerstone of our family’s story. He immigrated to Lancaster with little more than a dream and a relentless work ethic. As a farmer and entrepreneur, he spent countless hours in the fields and built a business from the ground up. His unwavering determination and vision provided not only for our family’s immediate needs but also laid the foundation for future generations to thrive. His sacrifices taught me that success is earned through hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to one’s values.
As a college-bound student, I carry my grandfather’s legacy with me. His story is a constant reminder of the opportunities that education can unlock. While my grandfather’s generation worked with their hands to build a future, I have the privilege of building on that foundation with my mind. The journey hasn’t always been easy. Growing up, I often felt the weight of expectations to honor my family’s sacrifices. At the same time, I’ve faced moments of self-doubt and the challenges of navigating a world where opportunities sometimes feel out of reach for those of us from immigrant backgrounds. But these experiences have shaped me into a resilient and determined individual who is ready to take on the challenges ahead.
My path to college has been shaped by my desire to give back to the community that has given so much to me. My family’s story has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the value of hard work and the importance of uplifting others. Whether it’s volunteering at local food banks or mentoring younger students in my school, I’ve sought to embody the spirit of service that my grandfather exemplified. These experiences have shown me the power of community and the impact of even small acts of kindness.
Looking to the future, I plan to major in Worship Ministry with the goal of using my education to make a positive impact on the world. I’m particularly passionate about worship ministry and ministry to struggling families, and I believe that my unique perspective as a member of an immigrant family gives me a valuable lens through which to approach these issues. I’ve learned that diverse experiences and backgrounds are strengths, and I want to use my voice to advocate for meaningful change.
My grandfather’s journey taught me that every small step forward matters. As I take my first steps into higher education, I’m committed to honoring his legacy by working hard, seeking knowledge, and striving to make a difference. My ultimate goal is to create opportunities for others, just as my grandfather did for me. Whether it’s through my career, community service, or mentoring the next generation of students, I aim to carry forward the values of resilience, compassion, and determination that have defined my family’s story.
In the end, my family’s immigrant journey is more than just a narrative of hardship and triumph; it’s a reminder that the dreams of one generation can inspire the achievements of the next. By pursuing higher education and dedicating myself to making a positive impact, I hope to honor my family’s sacrifices and contribute to a brighter future for others.
Future Leaders Scholarship
One time when I demonstrated exceptional leadership skills was during a group project for one of my classes. The project was both academically challenging and time-consuming, requiring extensive research and a detailed presentation. As the project progressed, it became clear that our team was struggling to stay on track. We faced a range of challenges, including conflicting schedules, unclear communication, and a lack of direction on how to break down the work into manageable pieces. The team was becoming frustrated, and I realized that without intervention, we would fail to meet the deadline or deliver the quality of work expected.
Seeing the potential for things to unravel, I decided to step up and take on a leadership role. I started by acknowledging the frustrations that had built up and made sure to listen to each team member’s concerns and ideas. By creating an open space for everyone to voice their thoughts, I was able to understand the root causes of our struggles and identify how we could address them collectively.
Once we had a clearer picture of the challenges, I worked with the team to reframe our approach. I suggested that we break the project into smaller, more manageable tasks and assigned responsibilities based on each team member’s strengths and expertise. This allowed each person to take ownership of a specific portion of the work, making it easier for everyone to focus on their individual contributions while still staying aligned with the larger vision. We also established a more structured timeline with clear deadlines for each segment of the project to ensure that we would stay on schedule.
To keep everyone motivated and on track, I implemented weekly check-ins where we could assess our progress, share any roadblocks, and make adjustments as necessary. This helped create a sense of accountability, and I was proactive in offering support and assistance whenever anyone needed it. I also made a point to recognize and celebrate small achievements along the way, which helped boost team morale and fostered a positive, collaborative environment.
Despite facing some setbacks, such as conflicting schedules and varying levels of commitment, the team came together and managed to meet our deadline. We completed the project on time and received high marks for the quality and depth of our research. Our professor specifically praised our teamwork and ability to overcome challenges, which was a testament to how effective our collaborative effort had been.
This experience taught me valuable lessons in leadership, such as the importance of clear communication, adaptability, and fostering a sense of ownership and accountability among team members. It also reinforced the idea that leadership is not about asserting control but about guiding and empowering others to achieve a common goal.
Looking ahead to my future career, I plan to apply these leadership skills in any role I take on. Whether I work in business, ministry, or another field, I know that the ability to bring people together, communicate effectively, and guide a team through challenges will be essential. I aim to foster a collaborative environment where everyone’s strengths are valued, and each team member feels supported in their efforts. By being a proactive and empathetic leader, I hope to inspire those I work with to perform at their best, contributing to both individual growth and the success of the team. Ultimately, I believe that strong leadership is about empowering others to reach their potential while working toward a shared vision, and I am committed to using these skills to make a positive impact wherever I go.

Tell us about a problem you have overcome in your life.
One significant challenge I faced was during my early years in high school when I struggled with balancing my academic workload and extracurricular activities, especially my involvement in church ministries. As a dedicated member of youth and children’s ministry, I was often overwhelmed by the demands of my commitments. At one point, I realized I wasn’t managing my time well, and my academic performance was starting to suffer. This was a wake-up call for me, and I knew I had to make a change.
To overcome this, I implemented better time management strategies. I started using planners and digital tools to organize my tasks, setting specific goals for both school and ministry. I also began prioritizing my responsibilities, learning to say no when necessary, and seeking support from teachers and mentors. Over time, I learned how to balance my commitments and maintain my focus on both academics and service. This experience taught me the importance of time management, communication, and maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life.

Philately is a hobby that promotes the study of postage stamps. How would you encourage young people to pursue this hobby?
Philately, or stamp collecting, is a fascinating hobby that can help young people develop a variety of skills, including organization, research, and attention to detail. To encourage young people to pursue philately, I would emphasize the educational and cultural value of stamp collecting. Postage stamps often reflect the history, art, and heritage of different countries, making it an engaging way to learn about the world. Collecting stamps can spark curiosity about geography, history, and global cultures, encouraging young collectors to learn more about the world around them.
I would also highlight the creativity and organization involved in philately. Young people can customize their collections based on themes that interest them—such as sports, animals, or famous historical figures—and develop systems for organizing and cataloging their stamps. The hobby can be a fun and interactive way to build patience, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Additionally, I would encourage youth to connect with other collectors, either through local clubs or online communities, where they can exchange stamps, share knowledge, and collaborate on projects. Philately can also be a great family activity, providing opportunities for bonding over a shared interest. Overall, I believe that philately is a rewarding and intellectually stimulating hobby that can capture the imaginations of young people, helping them develop both personally and academically.

In any career, there will be moments of difficulty, uncertainty, or failure, but I trust that God will equip me to navigate those moments with grace and wisdom. By staying rooted in prayer and Scripture, I know I can find the clarity and courage needed to move forward.
Finally, my faith will remind me to keep my focus on serving others and making a difference. I want to approach my career not just as a means to personal success, but as a way to bless and uplift those around me. TEAM ROX Scholarship
I have always believed in the importance of helping others reach their full potential, and much of this passion has been cultivated through my involvement in serving at church. These experiences have not only helped me develop valuable skills but have also deepened my sense of purpose and calling to uplift and support others in their journeys.
One of the most meaningful ways I have served is through children’s ministry. I’ve had the privilege of teaching Sunday school, leading small groups, and mentoring children as they explore their faith and grow spiritually. Preparing lessons and activities has taught me how to communicate effectively, break down complex biblical principles into relatable concepts, and create an engaging and welcoming environment. Beyond teaching, I focus on building personal connections with the children, encouraging them to discover their unique gifts and talents while reminding them of their identity and worth in God’s eyes. Watching these kids grow in confidence, faith, and understanding has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my service. It has shown me the incredible impact we can have on others when we invest our time, energy, and love into their growth.
Another area where I’ve been able to develop my skills is in worship ministry. As a member of the worship team, I’ve had the opportunity to lead and participate in creating meaningful worship experiences that draw people closer to God. Whether singing, playing an instrument, or assisting with behind-the-scenes tasks, I’ve learned how to collaborate with a team, adapt to different roles, and lead with humility and grace. Worship ministry has taught me that music is more than just a performance—it’s a powerful way to bring people together, inspire hope, and encourage spiritual connection. I’ve seen how a well-led time of worship can help people connect with God on a deeper level, and it’s a responsibility I take seriously.
I’ve also been involved in various outreach projects through my church, such as organizing community events, participating in food drives, and volunteering at local shelters. These experiences have taught me how to coordinate efforts, engage with diverse groups of people, and serve with compassion and humility. They have shown me the importance of meeting people where they are and providing support in ways that truly meet their needs. These acts of service, while sometimes small, have a profound impact on both the recipients and those who serve, and they have motivated me to encourage others to step into their own roles as servants and leaders.
Through these experiences, I have come to understand that my passion lies in helping others recognize and use their God-given talents and strengths. Whether it’s mentoring children, encouraging teammates in worship ministry, or organizing community service projects, I strive to be a servant leader who uplifts and inspires those around me. I’ve learned that leadership is about more than guiding others—it’s about empowering them to see their own potential and equipping them to fulfill it. My time serving in church has shaped me into someone who is not only dedicated to personal growth but also passionate about helping others become the best versions of themselves.
These opportunities have taught me the importance of listening, adapting, and being intentional in my interactions with others. They have fueled my desire to continue serving in ways that make a difference, both in individual lives and in the broader community. My experiences in church have shown me the transformative power of service and the joy that comes from helping others grow, thrive, and find their purpose.
Boyd J. Cameron Memorial Scholarship
I am pursuing a business degree because I believe it provides the tools and knowledge to create meaningful opportunities, solve real-world problems, and make a lasting impact. Business is at the heart of many aspects of society, from driving innovation to fostering economic growth. By studying business, I aim to develop skills in leadership, strategy, and problem-solving that will not only benefit my personal career but also enable me to make a positive impact on my community.
One of my primary motivations for pursuing this degree is the desire to use my education to serve others. I have always been passionate about helping people, and I see business as a powerful vehicle for creating change. Whether it’s through launching initiatives to address community needs, mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs, or creating jobs that support local families, I believe business has the potential to uplift individuals and strengthen communities.
My long-term goal is to establish or support businesses that prioritize both profitability and social impact. For example, I am interested in exploring social entrepreneurship—building businesses that address societal challenges while remaining financially sustainable. I want to create opportunities for underserved populations by providing resources, training, or employment that empowers them to thrive. Whether it’s through starting a small business, partnering with nonprofits, or leading community programs, my focus will always be on making a positive difference.
In addition to my broader aspirations, I plan to make an immediate impact by applying what I learn during my studies to local initiatives. For instance, I hope to use my knowledge of marketing, finance, and management to assist small businesses and nonprofits in my area. Many organizations struggle to navigate the complexities of running a business or expanding their reach, and I want to use my education to help them grow and succeed. Offering consultation, volunteering my time, or creating strategies to maximize their impact are ways I intend to contribute even while I’m still pursuing my degree.
Leadership is another area where I hope to make a difference. Through my education, I aim to refine my ability to inspire, collaborate, and build relationships. I want to lead with integrity and compassion, fostering a culture of growth and innovation wherever I serve. Whether it’s in a professional setting or a volunteer role, I am committed to using my leadership to uplift others and create lasting value.
Ultimately, pursuing a business degree is not just about building a career—it’s about equipping myself to serve others more effectively. I believe that by combining the principles of business with a heart for service, I can create meaningful opportunities that strengthen communities and make a positive, lasting impact.
In Pursuit of Jesus for Children Scholarship
I feel deeply called to serve in children’s and youth ministry, as well as worship, because these areas are vital to building a strong foundation of faith in the next generation. Young people are at a pivotal stage in life where their understanding of themselves, the world, and God is being formed. They are full of potential, curiosity, and openness, and I am passionate about being part of their spiritual journey by encouraging, guiding, and walking alongside them.
My calling to children’s and youth ministry stems from the belief that investing in the next generation is one of the most impactful ways to advance God’s kingdom. Kids and teens need mentors who will pour into their lives, teaching not only the truths of Scripture but also how to live those truths out in a world filled with challenges and distractions. I feel called to provide a safe, nurturing space where young people can explore their faith, ask tough questions, and discover their identity in Christ. Through prayer, mentorship, and authentic relationships, I want to help them see their immense value in God’s eyes and equip them to live purposefully.
At the same time, worship ministry is a passion of mine because it allows people to connect with God in transformative ways. Worship goes beyond music—it’s about creating an atmosphere where people can experience God’s presence and grow closer to Him. For children and youth, worship can be a profound experience, teaching them to encounter God personally and express their love for Him in ways that are meaningful to them. I feel called to lead worship that engages hearts, encourages authenticity, and fosters a deep connection with God.
Current research can play a significant role in enhancing the church and related ministries, especially in areas like youth engagement, mental health, and worship innovation. Insights from developmental psychology and education help us better understand how children and teens learn, grow, and process emotions. This allows ministries to create programs that are age-appropriate, relevant, and impactful. For example, research into social media’s effects and mental health trends equips us to address the unique challenges young people face today, providing them with the tools and spiritual support they need.
In worship, studies on how music and community shape faith can guide the church in creating meaningful experiences for all generations. Worship is a powerful tool for spiritual growth and connection, and research can help us design services that inspire deeper encounters with God.
Integrating my callings to children’s ministry and worship feels natural because these areas complement each other. By working with children and youth, I can nurture their faith, encourage them to discover their God-given gifts, and help them build a personal relationship with God. Through worship, I can create opportunities for them to experience God’s presence and learn to express their faith in ways that will last a lifetime.
Ultimately, my calling is about building relationships, sharing God’s love, and helping young people grow into the people God created them to be. By serving in these ministries, I hope to make a lasting impact, equipping the next generation to walk confidently in their faith and become leaders who shine God’s light in the world.

My father is not just my father figure; he is my greatest role model and one of the most influential people in my life. His unwavering work ethic and spiritual leadership have shaped my character, values, and aspirations in profound ways. Through his actions, he has shown me what it means to live a life of purpose, integrity, and faith.
One of the traits I admire most about my dad is his remarkable work ethic. He approaches every responsibility with dedication, humility, and perseverance, never cutting corners or settling for less than his best. Whether he’s working long hours to provide for our family or tackling challenging projects, he does so with an attitude of patience and determination. He takes pride in his work and sees every task, no matter how small, as an opportunity to honor his commitments and provide for those he loves. Watching him work has taught me that success doesn’t come from talent alone but from consistent effort and a willingness to push through obstacles. His ability to remain focused and positive, even during difficult times, inspires me to approach my own goals with the same level of commitment and drive.
What truly sets my dad apart, however, is his role as a spiritual leader in our family. He doesn’t just talk about faith; he lives it out every single day. Whether it’s starting the morning with prayer, sharing scripture in times of uncertainty, or serving others with kindness and humility, he embodies the values of our faith in everything he does. He has taught me that faith isn’t just about attending church or following rituals—it’s about cultivating a relationship with God and allowing that relationship to guide your decisions, actions, and interactions with others. His steadfast trust in God, even during life’s most challenging moments, has been a powerful example for me. It has shown me that true strength comes from leaning on a higher power and that peace is possible even in the midst of trials.
What makes my dad truly special is the way he balances strength with compassion. He is someone I can always count on to listen, encourage, and support me, no matter what I’m going through. At the same time, he challenges me to grow, to persevere when things get tough, and to hold myself to high standards. His wisdom and guidance have been invaluable to me, helping me navigate difficult decisions and remain true to my values.
My dad has not only shaped who I am today but also who I aspire to become in the future. He has taught me the importance of working hard, staying grounded in faith, and treating others with love and respect. I hope to carry these lessons into every aspect of my life, using them to guide my actions and decisions as I pursue my goals and dreams. My father’s influence is a gift that I will always treasure, and I am deeply grateful for the example he sets every day. He inspires me to strive for excellence, remain steadfast in my beliefs, and live a life of integrity, just as he does.

About Me, My Family Dynamic, Schooling, and Future Plans
My name is Rylan, and I’m a senior in high school, eagerly preparing to step into the next chapter of my life. My journey so far has been shaped by my faith, my family, and the experiences that have taught me who I am and what I’m called to do.
I come from a close-knit family that has always been a source of love, support, and growth. Like most families, we’ve had our challenges, but those struggles have only strengthened our bond. However, I’m grateful to say that we’ve come out of that season closer than ever. My brother Gabe has become one of my best friends, and I value the moments we share—whether we’re laughing over small things, encouraging each other, or simply being present for one another. My family dynamic has taught me the importance of perseverance, forgiveness, and unconditional love, which are values I carry into every aspect of my life.
School has played a key role in shaping who I am today. Throughout my high school career, I’ve not only grown academically but also personally and spiritually. One of the most impactful experiences was my time on the football team. Being part of a team taught me valuable lessons about discipline, resilience, and teamwork. But it also gave me an opportunity to stand firm in my faith. There were times when I faced persecution for being a Christian—moments that tested me and pushed me to grow. These challenges reminded me of the importance of staying true to who I am and leaning on God in all circumstances. They also shaped my communication style and self-concept, helping me become someone who approaches life with humility, kindness, and conviction.
One of the most exciting parts of my journey is what lies ahead. I plan to attend Grand Canyon University to pursue a degree in Christian ministry with the goal of becoming a worship pastor. My faith has been the foundation of my life, and worship has always been a powerful way for me to connect with God and with others. Over the years, I’ve felt a clear calling to serve the church through music and ministry, helping people experience the presence of God and draw closer to Him. Whether it’s through singing, leading a worship team, or creating meaningful worship experiences, I want to use the gifts God has given me to make a positive impact.
I chose GCU because it aligns with my values and provides an environment where I can grow spiritually, academically, and personally. I’m excited to be part of a community that encourages faith, fosters growth, and equips me to step into the ministry God is calling me toward. I also look forward to building new relationships, learning from experienced mentors, and growing as a leader who can serve others well.
My ultimate goal is to lead a life that glorifies God and reflects His love to others. As a worship pastor, I hope to create spaces where people can come as they are, experience the love and grace of God, and leave transformed. I also want to build a strong, connected community—one that encourages people in their faith and helps them navigate life’s challenges with hope and joy.
I’m grateful for everything that has brought me to this point—my family, my schooling, my faith, and the challenges that have shaped me. As I step into this next chapter, I’m excited for all that God has planned and look forward to serving Him and others through the ministry I feel so passionately called to pursue.

Overcoming Obstacles on the Football Team
Throughout my life, football has been more than just a sport—it’s been a teacher. From long practices to tough games, I’ve learned about discipline, perseverance, and teamwork. But more than anything, my time on the football team taught me how to face challenges head-on and overcome obstacles that tested not just my physical strength, but my faith and character as well.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was standing firm in my Christian faith. Being a teenager is hard enough, but in the world of competitive sports, there’s often a lot of pressure to fit in and go along with the crowd. I’ve always believed in living out my faith, but that commitment sometimes set me apart. I faced criticism, misunderstanding, and even ridicule for holding onto my values. There were moments I felt isolated, like I didn’t quite belong on the team. I had teammates who didn’t understand why I wouldn’t participate in certain behaviors or conversations, and I struggled with the tension of wanting to fit in while staying true to who I was.
At times, I wondered if I should just keep my beliefs to myself or let my standards slide to make life easier. But deep down, I knew compromising my faith wasn’t the answer. Instead, I made the decision to lead by example. I realized that actions speak louder than words, so I focused on being the hardest worker on the field, the most encouraging teammate, and someone who others could trust. I stayed after practice to improve my skills, supported my teammates when they needed it, and stayed positive, even when games didn’t go our way. I wanted people to see that my faith wasn’t just words—it was the foundation of my life.
The obstacles didn’t disappear overnight. It wasn’t always easy to stay grounded when I felt like I was walking a different path. But over time, I started to notice a change. My teammates began to respect me not just for my work ethic, but for my consistency and integrity. Some even came to me for advice or encouragement when they were struggling, and those moments showed me that staying true to my beliefs had a bigger impact than I realized. I learned that leadership doesn’t always mean being the loudest voice in the room; sometimes it’s about living in a way that inspires others to do the same.
Through all of these experiences, I grew stronger—not just as a player, but as a person. Football taught me that obstacles are opportunities to grow, and that success isn’t always measured by wins and losses, but by how you respond to challenges. Whether I was standing firm in my faith, leading my team through tough times, or pushing through my own mistakes, I learned to face each challenge with determination, grace, and resilience.
Looking back, I’m grateful for the struggles I faced because they shaped who I am today. Football didn’t just teach me how to win games; it taught me how to win in life—by staying true to my values, lifting up others, and never giving up, no matter how hard the road may seem.
