Charles B. Brazelton Memorial Scholarship
From a young age, I was captivated by the idea of becoming an entrepreneur. The notion of starting something from scratch and nurturing it into fruition fascinated me—both the challenges and the exhilaration it offered. I often found myself daydreaming about various business concepts, envisioning how specific products or services could address real problems, enhance the quality of life for individuals, and serve the needs of my community. I admired the business owners around me, who exuded passion and determination; their ability to make decisions independently and guide their ventures inspired me. The thought of being my own boss, steering my own ship, and having complete ownership over my work sparked a fire within me that has only grown over time.
As I have journeyed through my formative years, my aspirations have taken on new dimensions while still anchoring back to my foundational dream of entrepreneurship. I’ve honed in on areas such as marketing and leadership—vital skills that I believe are essential for running a successful business. My vision now centers around establishing a company that not only serves as a viable commercial entity but also stands as a beacon for the accomplishments of Black women in business. I am deeply committed to creating an environment where their successes are celebrated and amplified, ensuring that their stories are told and recognized in the broader narrative of entrepreneurship.
My ambition extends beyond profit margins; I envision my business as an agent of positive change within the community. This includes a dedication to supporting local nonprofits that align with my values and offering mentorship programs that empower the next generation of entrepreneurs. Through workshops, networking events, and internship opportunities, I aim to provide resources and guidance to those who might otherwise face barriers in accessing entrepreneurial support.
While I navigate the complexities of developing a focused business strategy and enhancing my leadership skills, the essence of my childhood dream remains intact. I am actively pursuing knowledge and experience through my academic studies and involvement in extracurricular activities, with particular emphasis on my own marketing company. Each step I take contributes to the foundation for a future where I can create innovative solutions, lead with purpose, and cultivate an environment where others are inspired to pursue their aspirations. My journey is driven by a desire to make a lasting impact on the world around me, and I am unwavering in my commitment to turning this dream into a reality.
Elijah's Helping Hand Scholarship Award
Being bisexual has profoundly shaped my identity and perspective on the world, and my experiences with this aspect of myself have had a significant impact on how I view mental health and personal growth. Growing up, I often felt torn between different parts of myself, unsure of how to reconcile the different aspects of my identity. For a long time, I struggled with feeling like I didn’t quite fit into any one category, which led to a lot of internal confusion and doubt. I kept my bisexuality to myself for a long time, afraid of how others might react and whether I would be accepted for who I truly was.
This fear of judgment took a toll on my mental health. I found myself questioning my worth, feeling isolated, and experiencing moments of anxiety and depression. I felt like I was walking a tightrope, trying to live up to expectations while suppressing a crucial part of my identity. The pressure of trying to fit in, combined with the fear of being misunderstood or rejected, created a sense of internal conflict that I couldn’t easily resolve.
Over time, I began to accept myself more fully, thanks to the support of a few close friends and resources that helped me understand that I wasn’t alone in my experiences. I started to embrace my bisexuality and recognize that my identity was something to be proud of, not something to hide. Coming to terms with who I am has been a transformative experience, and while it hasn’t been without its challenges, it has helped me develop greater self-compassion and resilience. I’ve also learned how important it is to create spaces where others feel safe and supported in expressing their true selves. This has become one of my passions, and I hope to continue advocating for inclusivity and mental health awareness within the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond.
Throughout my journey, I have come to realize the profound significance of mental health, especially for those who often find themselves feeling marginalized or misunderstood by society. These experiences have underscored the necessity of self-acceptance, revealing how essential it is to embrace who we are, flaws and all. Furthermore, I have learned the importance of reaching out for support when we need it, understanding that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but rather a courageous step toward healing.
My aspiration is to take the lessons I’ve learned and use them as a beacon of hope for others. I want to empower individuals to embrace their unique identities and recognize the strength that lies in being true to themselves. Through sharing my story and insights, I hope to inspire those who may be struggling to find their place in the world, encouraging them to seek the support they need and to cherish their individuality.

The person I loved the most in the world was my grandmother, and losing her to cancer has deeply impacted me in ways I’m still trying to understand. She was my rock, my confidante, and the person who always knew how to make me feel safe and loved. What I loved most about her was her warmth and kindness. She had this incredible ability to make everyone around her feel special, no matter what. Her strength and positivity, even during her own struggles with cancer, inspired me in ways I can’t fully put into words.
My grandmother was a remarkable woman who possessed an extraordinary ability to see the best in everyone she encountered. Her love was truly unconditional, evident in the way she embraced each person with open arms, regardless of their flaws or mistakes. Whenever I felt a wave of sadness or disappointment wash over me, I would seek refuge in her presence. She always seemed to know exactly what to say, her words flowing with a soothing calmness and profound wisdom that could ease any turbulent emotion.
What I found especially inspiring was her remarkable ability to maintain a smile, even during the toughest moments. I remember watching her face the challenges of life with grace and resilience, which only deepened my admiration for her. It made me realize that true strength is not the absence of struggle, but the ability to embrace it, learn from it, and continue to shine regardless of the circumstances. Her legacy of love, patience, and hope left a profound impact on my life, shaping me into the person I am today. a soothing calmness and profound wisdom that could ease any turbulent emotion.
One of the most valuable lessons she imparted to me was the importance of patience and understanding—qualities that are often overlooked in today’s fast-paced world. She often shared stories from her own life, highlighting moments when faith and perseverance had seen her through difficult times. Her unwavering belief in the power of faith was a source of strength for her and became a guiding principle for me as well.

The grief is something I carry with me, but it has also pushed me to live in a way that would make her proud. I try to carry her legacy of love and kindness with me. Though I miss her deeply, I also find comfort in the lessons she taught me—how to love fiercely, be resilient, and always show up for the people who matter. Her loss has given me a deeper understanding of what it means to appreciate the people we love while we have them. Even though she’s gone, I know her spirit and the love she gave me will always be a part of who I am.
Hester Richardson Powell Memorial Service Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have exhibited remarkable resilience as I navigated various personal challenges, and I truly believe that my experiences can serve as a source of inspiration for others facing their own battles. One of the most profound demonstrations of my resilience has been my journey with mental health, particularly in overcoming a nicotine addiction and managing an eating disorder.
These obstacles were incredibly tough and often felt insurmountable, testing my limits and stretching my resolve. The fight against nicotine was a constant struggle; breaking free from its grip required not only unwavering determination but also the support of friends and professionals who believed in my ability to change. Similarly, my battle with an eating disorder was a complex and intricate journey that demanded both introspection and courage as I worked to develop a healthier relationship with food and my body.
Through determination, self-reflection, and the unwavering encouragement of those around me, I discovered an inner strength that propelled me forward, allowing me to confront and ultimately overcome these challenges. I hope that by sharing my story, I can inspire others to find their own resilience in the face of adversity.
When I struggled with nicotine addiction, it felt like an insurmountable obstacle. I faced physical cravings, emotional turmoil, and self-doubt, but I committed to breaking free from that cycle. I sought help from my support system, attended counseling, and educated myself about addiction. Slowly, I built healthier habits to replace the addiction, and though it wasn’t easy, I persevered, knowing that every small victory was a step toward a healthier me.
Similarly, dealing with my eating disorder was a process that required a lot of mental strength and self-compassion. I learned to challenge negative thoughts, practice mindfulness, and build a healthier relationship with food. The process wasn’t linear, and there were setbacks, but I didn’t give up. Over time, I grew stronger mentally and emotionally, and I started focusing on my overall well-being rather than perfection.
By sharing my personal experiences with a diverse group of friends and peers, I've discovered a powerful way to inspire those who are also grappling with their own challenges. I engage in open and candid conversations about resilience, emphasizing that it is not simply the act of dodging obstacles but rather the courage to confront them directly, regardless of how daunting the journey may appear.
I strive to lead by example, illustrating through my actions that seeking help is a sign of strength, that practicing patience with oneself is essential, and that maintaining a long-term vision is crucial when navigating through adversity. My ultimate hope is that through my narrative, others can recognize that resilience is not an innate trait but a quality developed over time. I want them to see that, with perseverance and a strong support system, it is indeed possible to triumph over the most formidable challenges life throws our way.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experience with mental health has profoundly shaped my goals, relationships, and understanding of the world. Struggling with mental health challenges has been one of the toughest parts of my life, but it has also helped me develop a deeper sense of empathy, resilience, and self-awareness. Navigating through difficult moments has taught me the importance of self-care, the value of seeking help, and the strength that comes from vulnerability.
When it comes to my goals, my mental health experiences have motivated me to pursue paths that allow me to help others. I’ve realized how essential it is to create supportive, inclusive spaces, both in my personal life and in the professional world. Whether I’m mentoring others or creating a community that encourages open conversations about mental health, I want to make sure that people feel heard, supported, and empowered. Mental health struggles have helped me define my purpose: to help others navigate their challenges and make sure no one feels alone in their journey.
In my relationships, mental health has taught me the importance of communication, understanding, and patience. It's easy to misunderstand others when we're all dealing with our own struggles, but being open about mental health has allowed me to connect with people on a deeper level. It’s shown me that vulnerability can bring people closer, and sharing struggles can foster empathy and build trust. I’ve also learned that it’s crucial to support others in their own mental health journeys, offering a listening ear and showing compassion.
Ultimately, my experiences with mental health have shifted my perspective on the world. I’ve come to understand that everyone carries their own burdens, even if they don’t show them on the surface. This realization has made me more compassionate and less judgmental, as I now see the importance of creating an environment where people feel safe to be themselves, flaws and all. It has shaped my worldview by reminding me that kindness, understanding, and support are essential to building a better, more compassionate society.
Tardus Beach Volleyball Scholarship
Playing beach volleyball in college has always been a dream of mine, and I decided to pursue this path because of my deep passion for the sport, the challenges it presents, and the unique experiences it offers. Growing up in Hawaii, I’ve always been surrounded by beautiful beaches and an active outdoor lifestyle. Volleyball, especially beach volleyball, has been a constant part of my life since I was young. The sport teaches resilience, teamwork, and strategy, all of which I value deeply. The opportunity to continue playing at the collegiate level allows me to push my skills to new heights, learn from others, and represent my community in a meaningful way.
The unique nature of the sport also influenced the decision to play beach volleyball in college. Unlike indoor volleyball, beach volleyball involves only two players on each team, which requires a greater level of individual skill, coordination, and adaptability. The sport has helped me grow in ways I didn’t anticipate, from improving my physical fitness to developing mental toughness and strategic thinking. I’m excited to continue challenging myself and to compete at a higher level.
As for my career path, I plan to pursue a degree in sports management or business. I’ve always been passionate about sports and the impact they have on individuals and communities, and I want to use my education to help create opportunities for other athletes, particularly in the realm of youth sports. Whether through organizing events, managing sports teams, or working in community outreach, I want to be involved in creating environments where athletes can thrive and have access to the resources they need. Beach volleyball has taught me about leadership, discipline, and perseverance—qualities I know will serve me well as I work toward a career that combines my love for sports with my desire to make a positive impact.
Receiving this scholarship would enable me to wholeheartedly pursue my deep passion for beach volleyball while laying a solid foundation for my future career. The scarcity of scholarship opportunities for beach volleyball players, particularly those hailing from Hawaii, makes this financial support all the more invaluable. It would not only alleviate the financial burdens I face but also empower me to focus completely on honing my athletic skills and excelling in my studies. With this assistance, I would have the opportunity to immerse myself fully in both my sport and my education, propelling me toward achieving my goals and aspirations.
Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish has such a unique and powerful way of expressing deep emotions in her music, and these three songs—"Your Power,"I Love You," and "when the party's over"—resonate with me for different reasons.
"Your Power" stands out because it touches on themes of control, manipulation, and the complexities of relationships. The way Billie sings about power dynamics, especially in situations where someone takes advantage of their position, makes it feel raw and personal. The soft, haunting melody contrasts with the weight of the message, making it both soothing and emotionally stirring. It reminds me of the importance of recognizing boundaries and respecting others in relationships.
"I Love You" is a song that feels incredibly vulnerable. The way Billie expresses the paradox of loving someone while also feeling lost or hurt resonates with me deeply. Love isn’t always perfect, and sometimes it brings a lot of confusion and pain. The way she blends her voice with the gentle instrumental creates an intimate atmosphere, allowing listeners to feel like they’re right there with her, experiencing those emotions.
"when the party's over" is another song that resonates because of its emotional depth and sense of isolation. It speaks to that feeling of being overwhelmed by expectations and trying to find peace or closure in a situation where you feel emotionally drained. The simplicity of the piano and Billie’s voice really brings out the vulnerability of the lyrics, making it easy to connect to the loneliness and desire for personal space.
Each of these songs speaks to different aspects of the human experience—love, power, vulnerability, and emotional conflict—and they’re all presented with such honesty and rawness that they feel like they’re speaking directly to me.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
LeBron James is someone I deeply admire not only for his incredible basketball talent but also for the way he’s used his platform to make a lasting impact on others. Growing up, I was always inspired by his ability to rise above challenges and never forget where he came from. LeBron’s charity work speaks volumes about his character and the kind of legacy he wants to leave.
One of the most personal and inspiring initiatives LeBron has led is the I PROMISE School in Akron, Ohio. Knowing that he came from difficult circumstances, it’s incredible to see how much he’s giving back to kids who might be facing the same struggles he did. The fact that the school offers free education, meals, and even college scholarships for its students shows just how much LeBron cares about creating opportunities for the next generation. It resonates with me because it’s more than just a charity—he’s giving these kids the chance to change their lives, just like he changed his own.
His LeBron James Family Foundation goes beyond education, too. Programs like “Work of Heart” offer mentorship, training, and resources to youth who need guidance the most. LeBron’s message is clear: if you work hard, anything is possible, no matter your circumstances. It’s inspiring to see how much he cares about helping people rise above their challenges, especially in communities that are often overlooked.
LeBron’s commitment to justice and equality also speaks to me personally. He’s never been afraid to use his voice to bring attention to issues like racial equality, voting rights, and social justice reform. It’s a reminder that athletes and public figures can make a real difference beyond their careers, using their influence for the greater good.
LeBron’s charity work isn’t just about giving money; it’s about giving hope. He’s shown me that success is about more than just personal achievements—it’s about lifting others up along the way. His dedication to making a positive change, especially in his hometown, is something I find truly inspiring.
Bear Fan Scholarship
For me, the perfect ending to The Bear would tie together its themes of family, ambition, and personal growth while leaving viewers with a sense of hope and closure.
Carmy, after a rollercoaster journey of grappling with perfectionism and the weight of his family’s legacy, finally achieves a balance between his professional aspirations and personal well-being. The restaurant, The Bear, earns its first Michelin star, not for its prestige but as a testament to the team’s dedication and creativity. However, Carmy realizes that success is not just about accolades. He steps back from the kitchen’s chaos and begins mentoring young chefs, passing on his hard-earned lessons about resilience and teamwork. He also finds personal happiness, starting a relationship that provides him with the emotional support he’s long needed.
Sydney emerges as a powerhouse chef in her own right, opening a second restaurant with a vision inspired by her collaboration with Carmy. Her menu celebrates her unique culinary voice while paying homage to the lessons learned from her time at The Bear. She remains close to the team, often collaborating on projects and fostering a mentorship program for underrepresented chefs in the industry.
Richie, who’s grown tremendously over the series, finds peace with his past and carves out a new identity. He becomes the heart of The Bear, building strong relationships with the staff and customers. His transformation becomes an inspiration to those who underestimated him.
Natalie (Sugar) continues to be the glue of the family, balancing her role in the business with her own growing family. She works with Carmy to establish a scholarship in their late brother Michael’s honor, supporting aspiring chefs who remind them of his passion.
The final scene is a heartwarming gathering at the restaurant, where the team celebrates their journey. Everyone, from Marcus perfecting his desserts to Tina leading her own kitchen, radiates pride and unity. The series ends with a toast to perseverance and the family—both born and chosen—that made it all possible.
This ending would be deeply satisfying because it honors the characters’ growth, respects the challenges they’ve faced, and celebrates the unbreakable bonds forged in the kitchen. It’s an ode to resilience and the power of pursuing dreams while staying true to oneself.
Love Island Fan Scholarship
“Cupid’s Target” is an exciting and flirtatious challenge designed to test the Islanders’ compatibility, communication, and teamwork. This challenge combines lighthearted fun with strategy, as couples navigate a heart-shaped obstacle course filled with relationship-themed mini-games and questions. The ultimate goal is to reach the final station and hit the “Cupid’s Target,” symbolizing how well they know and trust each other.
The challenge begins with couples tethered together by a soft rope, emphasizing coordination and teamwork. A giant heart-shaped course is set up on the villa lawn, featuring various "checkpoint stations," each with its own unique activity. To win, couples must successfully complete all checkpoints before reaching Cupid’s Target. While skipping a station is allowed, it comes with a penalty time that could affect their final score.
At the first station, “Heart Strings,” couples untangle a web of heart-shaped ropes while answering relationship-based questions about each other, such as, “What’s your partner’s dream date?” Correct answers earn points, while incorrect ones add knots to the rope, making it harder to complete. Next is “The Trust Fall Leap,” where one partner, blindfolded, must navigate a maze of foam hearts and balloons guided only by their partner’s instructions.
“Kiss & Tell” challenges couples’ pop culture knowledge with trivia questions about famous romantic movie quotes, songs, or celebrity couples. Incorrect answers result in fun forfeits, like a quick dance or a playful serenade. In “Love Balance,” couples must balance a giant candy heart on a tray between them as they cross a wobbly bridge. Finally, “Cupid’s Clues” presents a riddle that, once solved, unlocks the bow and arrow needed for the final station.
The challenge culminates at “Cupid’s Target,” where one partner takes aim at a large archery target while the other provides verbal guidance and encouragement. The target has concentric rings, with the bullseye earning the most points. Performance in earlier stations determines how many bonus arrows the couple receives for this round, making teamwork throughout the course essential for success.
The winning couple is determined by their overall score, calculated based on accuracy, speed, and teamwork. As a reward, they receive a luxury date, such as a romantic sunset dinner or a relaxing spa evening in the villa. “Cupid’s Target” is the perfect blend of humor, physical activity, and emotional connection, offering plenty of hilarious and heartwarming moments for viewers while strengthening bonds between the Islanders.
Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I’m a fan of Sabrina Carpenter because of her incredible talent, authenticity, and versatility as an artist. Her music resonates with me on a deeply personal level, as her lyrics often explore themes of self-discovery, resilience, and growth—concepts that align with my own journey. Whether she’s singing an emotional ballad or delivering a catchy pop anthem, her ability to convey genuine emotion is inspiring.
Sabrina’s career has impacted me by showing the power of perseverance and creativity. She has transitioned seamlessly from acting to music, proving that it’s possible to excel in multiple areas while staying true to oneself. Watching her evolve as an artist has motivated me to embrace my own passions, whether it’s pursuing my business goals, exploring creative outlets like singing, or designing impactful projects.
Her advocacy for self-expression and mental health awareness has also been meaningful to me. In moments when I’ve faced challenges with mental health or self-doubt, her music has provided comfort and reassurance. Songs like "Skin" and "Because I Liked a Boy" remind me to embrace my experiences and use them as fuel for growth rather than letting them define me.
Overall, Sabrina Carpenter’s journey inspires me to remain authentic, embrace challenges, and pursue my dreams with confidence and resilience.

My name is Ryiana Vega, and I am a young entrepreneur passionate about uplifting my community and creating spaces that foster empowerment and well-being. My business idea is to establish a wellness center that celebrates Black excellence and provides comprehensive services to nurture both mind and body. This center would include a gym, a cafe offering nutritious meals, a spa for relaxation, and a counseling center for mental health support. Additionally, I aim to highlight and collaborate with Black-owned businesses by featuring their products and services within the wellness center.
Why I’m Passionate About This Business Idea
I am deeply passionate about this idea because I believe wellness should be accessible, inclusive, and holistic. Growing up, I noticed the lack of spaces that cater specifically to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of Black individuals. My personal journey with mental health and the challenges of balancing life’s demands have shown me how crucial it is to prioritize wellness. By combining these services under one roof, I hope to create a haven where people can not only improve their well-being but also feel seen, celebrated, and supported.
How This Business Will Impact the World
This wellness center will be more than just a business—it will be a community hub. It will inspire healthier lifestyles, reduce stigma around mental health, and empower individuals to thrive. This wellness center represents the culmination of my passion, experiences, and vision to create something transformative for my community and beyond.
Black Excellence Scholarship
1) Attribute I Embody the Most: Thrive with an Indomitable Will
I believe I most embody the attribute of thriving with an indomitable will. Throughout my life, I have faced challenges that tested my strength and resilience, from personal struggles with mental health and addiction to balancing academics, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. These experiences have taught me the importance of perseverance and determination, qualities I now carry into every aspect of my life.
For example, during my recovery from nicotine addiction and an eating disorder, I faced moments of self-doubt and setbacks that could have derailed my progress. Instead of giving up, I remained committed to my goals and sought support from therapists, family, and friends. My will to overcome these challenges allowed me to rebuild my health, confidence, and sense of purpose.
In my academic and entrepreneurial pursuits, this attribute has been equally important. As a participant in the Early College Program, I’ve had to manage rigorous coursework while maintaining active involvement in FFA, volleyball, and community service. Despite the demands of my schedule, I’ve consistently pushed myself to excel, knowing that the effort I invest today will pay off in the future. Similarly, as the founder of Cole Marketing Inc., my determination to celebrate and support Black women in business drives my work. I refuse to let obstacles deter me from building a platform that empowers others and creates lasting change.
Thrive with an indomitable will also means staying motivated when faced with uncertainty. I have learned to see challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities to grow and adapt. Whether it’s finding innovative ways to balance my responsibilities or turning failures into learning experiences, I approach every situation with the mindset that I can overcome it. This unwavering determination allows me to thrive in both personal and professional pursuits.
Ultimately, my indomitable will is rooted in my belief that every challenge is an opportunity to rise stronger. It drives me to keep striving for excellence, even in the face of adversity, and to inspire others to do the same.
2) Attribute for Improvement: Prioritize and Manage Time
While I am proud of my achievements, I recognize that prioritizing and managing time is an area where I can improve. Balancing school, extracurricular activities, work, and personal commitments often leaves me feeling stretched thin. At times, I find myself procrastinating on important tasks or struggling to allocate sufficient time to each responsibility, which can lead to unnecessary stress.
To improve in this area, I have developed a plan to become more intentional and organized with my time. The first step is to adopt a detailed scheduling system. I plan to use both a physical planner and digital tools like Google Calendar to map out my daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities. By assigning specific blocks of time for each task and setting reminders, I aim to stay on track and avoid last-minute rushes.
Next, I will focus on setting clear priorities. Using a system like the Eisenhower Matrix, I will categorize tasks based on their urgency and importance. This will help me identify what needs immediate attention and what can be delegated or postponed. Additionally, I will establish boundaries to minimize distractions, such as setting designated times for checking emails and social media.
Another important aspect of improving my time management is learning to say no when necessary. While I value being involved in many activities, I realize that overcommitting can lead to burnout. By being more selective with my commitments, I can devote my energy to fewer tasks and perform them more effectively.
Finally, I plan to regularly evaluate my progress and adjust my strategies as needed. At the end of each week, I will reflect on how well I managed my time and identify areas for improvement. This consistent self-assessment will ensure that I remain accountable and continue to grow in this area.
By implementing these strategies, I am confident that I can enhance my ability to prioritize and manage time. Not only will this help me achieve my academic and personal goals more efficiently, but it will also reduce stress and create space for me to focus on what truly matters.
Ella's Gift
My journey has been defined by resilience, growth, and a determination to create a meaningful future. Over the years, I have faced challenges that tested my physical, mental, and emotional strength. Struggles with nicotine addiction, an eating disorder, and depression once felt like insurmountable obstacles. However, through self-awareness, support, and dedication, I have turned these challenges into stepping stones for personal growth and a clearer vision of my educational and life goals.
My nicotine addiction began as a way to cope with stress and the pressure of balancing school, extracurricular activities, and personal expectations. What started as a seemingly small habit grew into a dependence that negatively affected my health and focus. At the same time, I struggled with an eating disorder fueled by a need to control aspects of my life that felt overwhelming. These battles were compounded by depression, which left me feeling isolated and unmotivated. These challenges not only impacted my daily life but also made it difficult to envision a positive future.
The turning point came when I realized that continuing on this path would jeopardize not only my health but also my dreams. Admitting that I needed help was one of the hardest steps, but it opened the door to recovery. Therapy became a cornerstone of my journey, helping me uncover the root causes of my struggles and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Open conversations with trusted family members and friends provided a sense of support and accountability. Slowly but surely, I replaced destructive habits with constructive ones, like journaling, practicing mindfulness, and engaging in physical activity.
Through this journey, I have discovered a resilience I didn’t know I had. Recovery is not linear, but each small victory has taught me the importance of self-compassion and perseverance. These lessons have translated into every aspect of my life, including my education. Enrolled in the Early College Program, I balance high school and college coursework while actively participating in extracurricular activities such as FFA, volleyball, and community service through the African American Community Service Agency. These experiences have given me a sense of purpose and reinforced my commitment to making a positive impact.
My long-term goal is to earn a degree in marketing or communications and expand my work with Cole Marketing Inc., a company I founded to celebrate and support Black women in business. I aim to create products that highlight their achievements, with proceeds supporting nonprofits dedicated to their entrepreneurial efforts. This initiative reflects my desire to turn personal growth into broader community empowerment.
Managing my recovery remains a daily priority. I continue to attend therapy sessions, practice mindfulness, and maintain a strong support network. Balancing my mental health with my academic and career aspirations has taught me the value of setting boundaries and prioritizing self-care.
This scholarship would provide critical support for my education, allowing me to focus on achieving my goals while continuing to prioritize my health. My experiences have shown me that challenges do not define who we are—our responses to them do. With this opportunity, I will continue to turn my struggles into strengths and create a future rooted in purpose, resilience, and impact.

Growing up in the Bay Area, I have faced challenges that have shaped me into a determined and resilient individual. One of the most significant hurdles has been balancing the demands of academics, extracurricular activities, and work while contributing to my community. As a student in the Early College Program, I often juggle dual-enrollment courses alongside my commitments to FFA, volleyball, and volunteering with the African American Community Service Agency. This balancing act has taught me time management, perseverance, and the importance of maintaining focus even during difficult times.
Financially, my family has faced constraints that have required careful planning and sacrifices to support my education. While I am grateful for their support, I know that pursuing higher education will place additional financial strain on my family. Scholarships are vital to helping me bridge this gap, enabling me to focus on my studies and extracurricular pursuits without the added stress of financial uncertainty.
This scholarship would be a stepping stone toward achieving my goal of building a career that empowers others, particularly Black women in business. It would allow me to continue my education and invest in projects that celebrate and support underrepresented communities. I am determined to make the most of every opportunity, and this scholarship would be instrumental in helping me achieve my dreams while making a positive impact on others.

My creative side found an outlet through music, specifically singing. Growing up in a predominantly Latino Area, I often felt like I didn't belong. As a mixed child, I felt as if I didn't fit in with my black or Latino counterparts. Along with a strong sense of imposter syndrome from a young age, I also struggled with severe depression, body dysmorphia, and an eating disorder. Singing is my refuge from the limitations of my physical being. It empowers me to articulate my thoughts and feelings in ways I had never imagined. The unfiltered passion and force of gospel, R&B, and rock music deeply connect with my innermost being, granting me a voice that surpasses the obstacles I encountered.
There was no balance in my life, no time for joy or rest. I needed to make a change.
That’s when I began intentionally organizing my time and my life. It didn’t come naturally at first. I had to work every day, creating to-do lists, prioritizing tasks, and designing schedules that made sense to me. Slowly, the chaos subsided. Organizing allowed me to stay on top of my responsibilities, and also freed up time for things that made me happy, like singing and designing ads. I found joy in structure and balance.

At first, I faced challenges getting clients. Initially, I worked with my mom to create marketing campaigns for a private company that provided mental health and substance treatment services to Solano and Napa counties. Then, I developed a portfolio of my work and began cold-calling local nonprofits and small businesses. The more outreach I did, the more clients I got. I networked online and curated an internet presence for myself. I now have over fifty clients with whom I contract to provide organizational support, digital marketing, and advertisements.
The reason organizing is the most meaningful skill to me is because it gives me my time back. It transformed my life from a constant state of stress into one of freedom and creativity. I’ve worked hard to develop this talent, and in doing so, I’ve learned that the right plan can be the key to unlocking peace of mind and joy.
My closest friend joined me and embraced the benefits of singing, and we often went to karaoke together; she even joined the school choir with me. Her support and shared love for music made a significant difference in my journey. I was able to connect with myself and make personal connections with others through our shared love of music.
Music is more than just a coping mechanism-- it is my savior. Listening to, writing, and immersing myself in music created a beacon of hope in my darkest moments. Through music, I found a way to connect with the pain of others and express my own, eventually leading me toward a path filled with light.
My passion for music provides an escape and shaped my sense of self. It allows me to develop a strong self-image and confidently express myself. Through music, I gained the courage to stand up for myself, not only in the realm of music but in everyday life as well.
In retrospect, I can confidently say that music has been my guiding light through the storm of chronic depression and body dysmorphia. It has provided me with resilience, strength, and an unwavering voice in the face of adversity.

My most meaningful skill is my ability to plan and organize. This wasn’t always the case. I was like most people—busy, stressed, and struggling to juggle the demands of school, work, and life. I was constantly on the verge of burnout. I vividly remember feeling like Garfield on a Monday, except that overwhelming dread lingered every single day. There was no balance in my life, no time for joy or rest. I needed to make a change.
