My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. I believe that I can make an impact as a teacher because I feel that the world of education needs more teachers who can be both strong-willed as well as fun in the classroom. My dream has always been to become a teacher and my love of U.S History is what truly inspired me to pursue education and history majors. I plan to teach my students very important life lessons. A teacher's job is to show subjects of study that will help them throughout their future and can help them plan for their future career. A teacher's job is also to be a good role model and help them with their personal and educational problems. I plan to be a history teacher for high school that will teach students the most important times of our history while also being a good teacher for them in life. A teacher is a key role model for any aged student and can assist them in their future. I want to try and be a teacher that a student can trust in their lives. My biggest plan, however, is to show my skills in history and hopefully pass them down to another student. Me becoming a history teacher is how I would be of good service to the field of history and show my students what it means to study history. I want to help my parents financially with scholarships. Any amount of money will help me and my family later down the road. I don't want money to stop me from my path of becoming a teacher. My brother and I are going out of state for college and that is very costly to go to, especially to other schools across the county. My dream college is West Virginia University and I'll try everything in my power to go there! The world is very competitive with many different resources in separate parts of the world. We never want to have another world war and I believe that if we can try to be peaceful with one another, we can be a true world with no more violence. This does sound very big to someone who wants to be a history teacher, but teachers can spark a flame of hope so that the future can be bright and very peaceful. My dream is to become a teacher who can share the experiences of learning history so that the world can be bright.

WVU called to me because I wanted to get a good education while also making my dream possible and I’m very excited and scared to go. My biggest fear about college is loans and the thought of making my family worry about me paying back loans scares me. By going to college, I will make my dream of becoming a history teacher come true and also make my family happy with my career choice. I hope I can win.

Back in my freshman year of high school through the years of 2019-2020, I was a shy, quiet person. I was starting a new chapter in my life, and it was scary for me. I wasn't very sociable with others and tried my best to keep quiet in class. The beginning of high school was a massive challenge for me. I would struggle in class with many quizzes and homework that would stress me out. I did not have many friends in middle school and many of those went to a different high school. Then, in March of 2020, COVID-19 hit the world and cut my freshman year short. COVID-19 was devastating for many people throughout the world. Many lost family members and friends. Companies and schools shut down due to the pandemic. My brother and I were scared about what would happen next to not just us, but the whole entire world. March to June of 2020 was one of the worst times of my life because I was staying at home doing the same thing over and over again. Then one night it started to change for me. As we were going to bed, my brother asked me if we could do a DND (Dungeons & Dragons) campaign. That night we stayed up until 2:00 AM. After this, the days got better, and I would be excited to go to bed and continue the story. The closest friends that I made during my freshman year called me and asked if we could hang out because they were sick and tired of being home alone. We would see each other every day and became even closer during this time. Those few months were some of the best times in my high school life.

This scholarship would help me with paying for college and help relieve some of my family's financial stress. My brother and I are going to different schools out of state and it will be very expensive for not only me but for my family as well. West Virginia University has been my dream school ever since James Madison University couldn't accept me because I didn't meet the math requirement. This broke me when I heard it from the recruiter and I fell into a small depression when I learned that I couldn't go to my first choice. West Virginia University has promised me that it will help me with making my dream possible. I am planning on getting more scholarships and some grants and loans to help pay for college. I know that I will have to work hard to get more scholarships and make my family proud. I am scared of getting loans because I know that I will have to pay them back during my later years, so I don't want to worry about that later in life. Ever since I was a kid, I loved listening to heavy metal. ACDC, Motley Crue, Metallica, Black Sabbath, and many others were ingrained into my ear drums. Heavy metal music is more than just the screaming and headbanging, it's about how the band works with each other to make those amazing beats. Heavy metal is what calms me down whenever I'm stressed or angry at school or work. I've been singing for a long time for multiple reasons and heavy metal has been one of my favorites to sing. Even now, Falling in Reverse, Yours Truly, A Day to Remember, Ozzy Osbourne, Colorblind, The Home Team, Green Day, and many, many more have been on my playlist and in my head. In conclusion, heavy metal is more to me than just the singing and guitar mixed with screaming and drums, it's about working together as a group/band to make music. A band is a group of people who come together to make music and they can't make those songs without working with one another. I will always headbang to those magical beats until the day I die.

My dream has always been to become a teacher and my love of U.S History is what truly inspired me to pursue education and history majors. History has taught us that we should never make the same mistakes twice, or we may repeat what we did, or maybe even worse. I wish to teach my students about how humanity is a flawed species and that we like to set up wars for personal or political gain. We group people up by their skin color or what they believe in. History shows that it is good and evil in this world and my job is to show my students how to fix or prevent these mistakes. The U.S. is one of the most well-known countries in the world with a very diverse history of being a country ruled by another and then finally becoming a free nation. We tell our citizens that we are a land of free speech and will, but history can tell a different story. The civil war shows what two sides of the same country can do to one another. Without our ancestors, we wouldn't be who we are today with many different traditions and ways of life. We as a species are talkative people and we go to many other countries all year long. Learning about these people's many cultures can bring peace of mind to many if there is a disaster going on in that certain country. Me becoming a history teacher is how I would be of good service to the field of history and show my students what it means to study history. We would see each other every day and become even closer during this time. Those few months were some of the best times in my high school life. During my sophomore year, we had virtual school, and it was a vastly different experience from any school year in my life. School was much easier because the workload decreased. Even though school was easier, I was struggling because it was difficult to pay attention. During that time, I started reading manga (Japanese comic books). Reading manga kept me from becoming bored in school and I started to understand more about Japanese culture. Much of my time was spent reading, watching anime, or playing video games. I would see my friends regularly, but my lifestyle wasn't healthy. I regret my choices during this time of staying inside every day and only going outside when I had to. After the school year, I started my first job at McDonald’s, and I still work there today. Even with the struggles, sophomore year will always be one of my favorite years ever. My junior year of high school is still my favorite school period in my life. I made new friends and became better friends with the ones I already knew. My stress died down and I started to do better in school. I tried out for the spring musical and got in with many of my theatre friends. I’ve always had stage fright, but the time I spent during COVID made me more confident. I would join more clubs and even become vice president of the Gaming Club. COVID-19 was a very tough time for many people around the world, but this was the time in my life when I stopped being shy and became more open and excited about what would be coming next. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways.

I plan to be a history teacher for high school that will teach students the most important times of our history while also being a good teacher for them in life. When I lost my uncle David, it was a very shocking and sad time in my life. He was one of my favorite relatives that always looked positive, no matter what was going on. He was my Dad's brother and they loved each other very much, so it was very personal for him as it was to me. I loved whenever he came to our house and he was the one who showed me some of my favorite movies. I will always remember his laugh and his sense of humor. He died on December 25th, when it was supposed to be a time of celebration and happiness, but that Christmas was filled with sadness and loss. We drive down to his house and saw how much of a mess it was. His death showed me that the loss of a family member can come at any time. I never thought that a loved one can be gone in a matter of days and that made me think about my life and how I can make the most of it. Right now, I am a high school senior on my way to college. My dream college is West Virginia University, but I live in Virginia so it is out of state. My goal is to become a high school teacher and teach my students the facts and horrors of our history as a country. I want my goal in life to match what my Uncle David wanted, to bring smiles to others' faces and to become a good member of society. I drive my uncle's old car to and from school and I hope I can drive to my school in that car when I get a job.

My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. Then, in March 2020, COVID-19 hit the world and cut my freshman year short. COVID-19 was devastating for many people throughout the world. Many lost family members and friends. Companies and schools shut down due to the pandemic. My brother and I were scared about what would happen next to not just us, but the whole world. March to June of 2020 was one of the worst times of my life because I was staying at home doing the same thing over and over again. Then one night it started to change for me. As we were going to bed, my brother asked me if we could do a DND (Dungeons & Dragons) campaign. The closest friends that I made during my freshman year called me and asked if we could hang out because they were sick and tired of being home alone. We would see each other every day and became even closer during this time. Those few months were some of the best times in my high school life. COVID-19 was a very tough time for many people around the world, but this was the time in my life when I stopped being shy and became more open and excited about what would be coming next. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways.

My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. My dream has always been to become a teacher and my love of U.S History truly inspired me to pursue education and history majors. I want to try and be a teacher with students who can trust their lives. My most extensive plan, however, is to show my skills in history and hopefully pass them down to another student. Me becoming a history teacher is how I would be of good service to the field of history and show my students what it means to study history. If we learn to understand a country's language, then we can start to understand them one way or another. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways. I want to go to West Virginia University to pursue an education major. We tell our citizens that we are a land of free speech and will, but history can tell a different story. The civil war shows what two sides of the same country can do to one another. Without our ancestors, we wouldn't be who we are today with many different traditions and ways of life. We as a species are talkative people and we go to many different countries all year long. Learning about these people's many cultures can bring peace of mind to many if there is a disaster going on in that certain country. My dream college is West Virginia University and I'll try everything in my power to go there!

History shows that it is good and bad in this world and my job is to show my students how to fix or prevent these mistakes. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways. I want to help my parents financially with scholarships so I hope that you can consider me for some! My dream college is West Virginia University and I'll try everything in my power to go there!

My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. History shows that it is good and bad in this world and my job is to show my students how to fix or prevent these mistakes. The U.S. is one of the most well-known countries in the world with a very diverse history of being a country ruled by another and then finally becoming a free nation. We tell our citizens that we are a land of free speech and will, but history can tell a different story. The civil war shows what two sides of the same country can do to one another. Without our ancestors, we wouldn't be who we are today with many different traditions and ways of life. We as a species are talkative people and we go to many different countries all year long. Learning about these people's many cultures can bring peace of mind to many if there is a disaster going on in that certain country. Me becoming a history teacher is how I would be of good service to the field of history and show my students what it means to study history. COVID-19 was a very tough time for many people around the world, but This was the time in my life when I stopped being shy and quiet and became more open and excited about what would be coming next. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways. As an adopted Native American teenager, I want to personally try to become a history teacher not just for myself, but for my fellow brothers and sisters out there being judged. I want to help my parents financially with scholarships so I hope that you can consider me for some! My dream college is West Virginia University and I'll try everything in my power to go there!

My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. My dream has always been to become a teacher and my love of U.S History truly inspired me to pursue education and history majors. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways. I want to go to West Virginia University to pursue an education major.

COVID-19 was a very tough time for many people around the world, but This was the time in my life when I stopped being shy and quiet and became more open and excited about what would be coming next. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways.

My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. If we learn to understand a country's language, then we can start to understand them one way or another.

If I could pick one book to recommend to everyone in the world, it would be "My Hero Academia" by Kohei Horikoshi. I love this series to death and I think that many anime and manga fans would love this series. It's a story about a teenage boy who is born without superpowers in a world that are dominated by superheroes and villains and he meets his favorite superhero, "All Might" and he then passes down his power to him and then he goes to a superhero high school. The series is currently still going and is subjected to end soon, but there is plenty to read in the series. I would recommend starting with the first volume and then going through the other volumes to get the story. The series is advertised to high school students. The art is some of the best I've ever seen in my catalog of manga. I connect with the main character, "Izuku Midoriya" because we both are very shy around others and we both love superheroes. It's a very popular "Weekly Shonen Jump" series and is beloved by many people around the world I hope that new people can come and read the series. I know that if people like action mangas, they will love this series. I want to personally thank Kohei Horikoshi for making my favorite thing in the whole world. I hope that the fans and newcomers to the series can learn to love the series as much as I do.

He has helped me with my dreams of becoming a teacher by telling me that there will be challenges along the way, but if I am happy with that job then I should shoot for the stars. He helped me through some dark times in my life and I thought that maybe my dream job wasn't right for me, he would be the light in the darkness that I needed. I will always miss his voice and the way he made me smile when I was down. I know that if he was alive today, he would still tell me that college was the best for me and that I could make it in this world. I miss him every day.

I would struggle in class with many quizzes and homework that would stress me out. I did not have many friends in middle school and many of those went to a different high school. COVID-19 was a very tough time for many people around the world, but This was the time in my life when I stopped being shy and quiet and became more open and excited about what would be coming next. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways. Now, I'm planning to go into education as my major.

My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. My dream has always been to become a teacher and my love of U.S History truly inspired me to pursue education and history majors. I plan to teach my students critical life lessons. My goal is to become a teacher and teach my students the ways how to uphold honor in our society. I always try to be nice to my elders when out in public. One time, my brother and I were going to smash a beer bottle in the forest because we were little and stupid when my dad saw us and I told him the truth when he found out. I never want to do drugs or break the law in any form. I can think of many times when someone drops their wallet on the floor and I always go to the owner of the wallet and give it to them without a second thought. I want to help my parents financially with scholarships. My dream college is West Virginia University and I'll try everything in my power to go there!

Movies are a way of expression through moving pictures to tell a story, convey emotions, and make an impact on the viewer's life. I love watching movies for the acting and the stories that they can tell. I especially love watching animated movies (mostly anime). One movie that always drives me to tears for the right reasons and a movie about forgiving with a lot of drama and romance is the movie, "A Silent Voice". The film was released in Japanese theaters in 2016 and came to the U.S. in 2017. It's a movie about a boy who bullied a deaf girl during their elementary school days and the main driving force in the movie is that the main character tries to make amends with the girl and become friends. The movie is in Japanese and English, but I always watch it in English. The English dub has the main girl be voiced by a deaf voice actress and it makes the emotions feel so real. Her mumbles and low voice for she does not know how to speak well feel so emotional. I love the main character because he is a broken person and feels bad about the bullying. He feels like he's worthless in his life and that he only brings despair to others, leaving nothing but destruction in his path. The movie has pretty dark themes in it like bullying, emptiness, sadness, forgiving, death, and even suicide. I love the pacing of the movie and the twists and turns that the plot makes throughout the film. The movie does not pull any punches with its themes of bullying and suicide. It's a perfect tear-jerking movie with so many emotions throughout the film. One of my favorite parts of the movie is the scenes where the main character sees everyone in his school with big X marks on their faces because he doesn't like to look them in the eyes. To quote the main character "Shoya", "You probably didn't know this, but I don't fit in at school. It's cause I have trouble looking people in the eye, so it's easier for me to just stare at the floor all the time." This quote beautifully demonstrates the emotions that Shoya feels about himself. The ending of the movie always makes me cry with its sweet, but bitter ending. I love this movie to death and it's affected my thought process when talking to others and that redemption can happen to some bad people. Its themes will always be in my head and I will use the lessons I learned from this movie to help me in the future. And finally, to quote my favorite lines from the movie, "Things would have been so much better back then... If we had heard each other's voices. I hate myself. I was selfish, and I never thought about anyone else's feelings. Since then, my classmates have all looked down on me. I've lived for seventeen years, and I haven't lived one of them as a good person." I strongly wish for people who love drama and romance with dark themes and animated movies to watch this masterpiece.

During my freshman year of high school, I used to play video games with my "friends". They were nice at first, but then they started to bully me and make fun of my skills at the game. I thought that this was normal for friends to do to one another, but they wouldn't stop. It was like that every single time we played, but I just kept wishing that it would stop. I would cry after playing with them and would leave the group chat randomly so that I couldn't speak to them anymore. It started to affect my trust in others, thinking that I would never make "true friends". Yelling and arguing were normal for us, but I just kept on coming back to play with them because I didn't have any other friends. During this time, I wanted to just disappear. I started to truly understand that the world is not all sunshine and rainbows and that others can be mean when you don't expect it. But around this time, I started making new friends at high school and I slowly started to fade away from that friend group. Now, I'm in my senior year and the friends I made during my four years in high school are still with me and standing strong. I've never had these many great memories as I do now. The toxic friend group and I are now on good standing terms. Throughout this bad time in my life, I finally understood that sometimes you make good friends when you hang out with the bad ones and now I'm truly happy with a great friend group.

Integrity means to be honest and bring strong morals to everyday life. I want to be a very good citizen in society so that I can have a strong life in the future. I can think of many times when someone drops their wallet on the floor and I always go to the owner of the wallet and give it to them without a second thought. I want to show the world that we are nice people when we understand one another. I want to believe that having good integrity will help me in the future. I hear that the world needs more people who understand one another. Being honest is the first step to having a successful future and career. Teachers are there for their students when they are in distress and they only go to a teacher if they trust the teacher and have a strong bond with said teacher. When my last cat died, I went to my fifth-grade teacher and talked to her about it and how it affected me emotionally. She said that it was okay to cry and that loss of a pet can have a big effect on a child's mind. She was honest with me and I trusted her enough to talk to her which is why I believe that having integrity will help me when I become a teacher. I want to tell my students that it's okay to cry when you are sad, and that going to a trusted adult can be a great thing to feel better. Integrity will not only help me now and in my future, but I believe it will also help the world become a little more peaceful.

Reading manga kept me from becoming bored in school and I started to understand more about Japanese culture. Much of my time was spent inside reading, watching anime or playing video games. COVID-19 was a very tough time for many people around the world, but This was the time in my life when I stopped being shy and quiet and became more open and excited about what would be coming next. My life during this time wasn't always the best, but it was the best for me in so many ways.

Elite schools are the pinnacle of what makes our society great with amazing doctors and lawyers who can solve any case with ease. These schools throw their students into the real world and only want to see results. Harvard University in the U.S. is one of the best schools in the world who have had amazing alumni from all across the world and so much more. All these schools are exactly what you expect, but all for one. This school in Japan is the only school in the world where they don’t focus on what the students want to do in the future and only want to show them what is on equal grounds with others from different backgrounds and different skills, with many of the students being from poor or even moderate households. The only way to get into this school is if you pass the “Ultimate Exam” which will test you on what you as a person know and not what others know but only yourself. This school has become a household name in Japan, the U.S. and all across the world for its amazing system that only exists there, its amazing alumni and the cheap prices to get in. This school is called “Tomogachi High” and it is named that because they want it to be close to the name of the popular toy “Tomodachi” which, in their eyes, strives for other students to take care of one another no matter what and because they didn’t want to get sued. This school is where our story begins. “Oh Man, Oh Man! I can’t believe I slept in on the biggest day of my entire life!!” Sorata said while looking around the train for a place to sit, for he is late for the entrance ceremony, a big thing for new students in Japan. Sorata Nakamura is a boy from the Chiba Prefecture who is going to Tomogachi High because he has nowhere else to go. Sorata has failed every single exam in his hometown, for Sorata is not the brightest, but he is filled with dreams of becoming a mangaka like his father. Sorata’s father is the author of the not-so-popular series “Nyan Nyan Magical Girl Squad '' which got canceled after only 15 chapters in “Weekly Shonen Skip ''. Sorata has always wanted to be like their father, who loved doing manga anytime he could. “You wanna become a mangaka like your old man? Well, I hope your dream comes true, but this business is not easy! It’s full of sharks just waiting to see the little fish swim into their grasps. Sorata, I want you to remember that whatever you do in the future, I will always be proud of you, no matter what. Do you know why I became a mangaka? I wanted to make people laugh at my work and strive to become one to tell whatever story they want, no matter what anyone else says. All I want to do is pick up my pen and draw the story I want to make. Manga is like a painting, there is a story to tell with only colors and a brush. Emotions or perceptions are only told by the swish of a paintbrush, like in the manga. I love you son, and I hope that in the future you make many, many friends who will help you in life, like assistants in a way. Do your best Sorata and never give up on the dream you want to make true!”

Patrick David Mills, throughout these couple of years, You have been with me through blood and tears. I know you will cure my fears When you do something, even the little things Looking at you makes my head go ding Makes me happy to have this ring Every time I see you, even for a while, You always seem to make me smile Sometimes cry and mad for a while When I put my head on your chest, I always swoon Seeing you makes me look like a loon Because I love falling asleep with you under the moon You always save me from the fog Even when I hear barking from a dog Because you are a prince to my frog You make my heart skip a beat like 1,3,2 I can't think what I'll do with without you too Thank you Patrick and I will always love you

Norman H. Becker Integrity and Honor Scholarship
Integrity means to be honest and bring strong morals to everyday life. I want to be a very good citizen in society so that I can have a strong life in the future. My goal is to become a teacher and teach my students the ways how to uphold honor in our society. I always try to be nice to my elders when out in public. One time, my brother and I were going to smash a beer bottle in the forest because we were little and stupid when my dad saw us and I told him the truth when he found out. Another time is when I broke the refrigerator door and I tried to put the handle back together when that didn't work I wrote an apology letter to them explaining how I did it and how I wanted them to forgive me. I never want to do drugs or break the law in any form. I can think of many times when someone drops their wallet on the floor and I always go to the owner of the wallet and give it to them without a second thought. I want to show the world that we are nice people when we understand one another.

During my sophomore year, we had virtual school, and it was a vastly different experience from any school year in my life. School was much easier because the workload decreased. Even though school was easier, I was struggling because it was difficult to pay attention. During that time, I started reading manga (Japanese comic books). Ryan T. Herich Memorial Scholarship
My name is Ryan Mills and I plan to become a history teacher. If we learn to understand a country's language, then we can start to understand them one way or another.

I plan to teach my students very important lessons in life. A teacher is a key role model for any aged student and can assist them for their future. I really want to try and be a teacher that a student can trust their lives with. My biggest plan, however, is to show my skills in history and hopefully pass it down to another student.
