I'll never forget that day when my mother called me into the living room. Gathered my siblings and me onto a small couch, and at fourteen I had an idea of how my life was about to change. She told us our dad had died the previous night in a car crash. We were all devastated, and I was sure nothing could be worse. A fool's thought, am I right? It was at the funeral that my world got turned upside down, but it was not in the way most people would expect. My dad had been rather reputable and we had packed out the funeral home where people were standing, and this preacher walks up and the first thing he said was that my dad as a boy had prayed a prayer and was in heaven today. Despite the fact, I was a new believer in this I had despair. I knew from the moment that I heard of my dad's death he was not saved and this fact broke me to my core. This preacher had the opportunity to preach the Gospel to many who would never attend a Sunday service. He had the opportunity to tell them how we all have gone our way and rejected the God who created us. Then instead of destroying us as we deserve God has shown us mercy and sent His son Jesus to live a perfect life and die a death, which He did not deserve. In this death, He took the punishment that we deserved so that we may live with God in heaven. And we must repent and believe that He did this. If that preacher had told them that he may have seen some believe and be saved from hell. Now, this moment at the funeral home changed my life forever, and five years later I am pursuing a career in pastoral ministry. Through Boyce college, I am taking an intensive course to obtain a bachelor's and master's degree in five years. Through my dad's death, I gained a passion for sharing the Gospel, so people may hear it and be saved from eternal damnation. I see no greater course in life than giving the Gospel. I am nothing special as a candidate, and I am probably not answering the question the way you desire. However, I do think it is evident through my response that I am serious about the calling on my life and my desire not only to share the Gospel but to teach others how to share it and to teach people what it means. The Gospel means something beyond a get-out-of-hell-free card, and it shapes the way you live your life.
