Bio

My name is Ryan McNett, and I am a senior at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes, Delaware. I have been accepted to the University of Delaware, where I plan to begin college in fall 2026 and pursue a future in business, with interests in marketing, financial planning, and wealth management. Golf has been part of my life since I was two years old, and the game has shaped who I am both on and off the course. Through junior tournaments, high school golf, and countless hours of practice, I have learned discipline, patience, focus, sportsmanship, and the value of steady improvement. After moving to Delaware and joining Cape Henlopen, golf helped me find my place in a new school and community. I was proud to contribute to Cape’s Henlopen Conference Championship team, earn All-State and All-Henlopen recognition, and represent my school as one of the team’s leading players. I hope to continue staying involved in golf at the University of Delaware, including through club golf. Outside of competition, I work as a driving range attendant at Baywood Greens Golf Club and have volunteered with Bernie’s Book Bank, Feed My Starving Children, St. Joseph’s food-packing efforts, Shepherd’s Office Ministries, and as an AJGA walking scorer. Scholarship support would make a meaningful difference for my family as my parents help support three children in college at the same time. I am committed to working hard, serving others, and using the lessons I have learned through golf, academics, work, and service to succeed in college and beyond.

Scott A. Ross Memorial Golf Scholarship
My favorite part of playing golf is the peace and focus I feel when I am on the course. Golf is challenging, but that is also what makes it so meaningful. Every round is different, and every shot requires patience, concentration, and trust. When I am playing golf, I am able to compete, spend time outdoors, connect with teammates and friends, and work toward becoming better one shot at a time. Reading about Scott A. Ross and his love for golf stood out to me because I understand how special the game can be. Golf is more than a sport. It can be a place to think, reset, enjoy nature, and challenge yourself mentally and physically. Like Scott, I have found that golf requires focus, patience, and appreciation for the time spent on the course. Golf has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing when I was two years old, and over time it has shaped my character in many ways. The game has taught me discipline, honesty, sportsmanship, responsibility, and perseverance. Golf does not allow you to hide from mistakes. A bad shot, a missed putt, or a difficult round can test your attitude quickly. Through those moments, I have learned to stay composed, focus on what I can control, and keep moving forward. One of the biggest challenges I have faced was moving to Delaware and starting over at a new school and in a new community. Transferring to Cape Henlopen High School could have been difficult, but golf helped me find my place. Through hard work, a positive attitude, and the support of my coaches and teammates, I was able to earn trust, contribute to the team, and become part of something meaningful. Helping Cape Henlopen win the Henlopen Conference Championship, the program’s first since 2004, became one of the proudest moments of my high school experience. That season showed me that golf is not only an individual sport, but also a way to build relationships, represent a school, and contribute to something bigger than myself. I have also grown through my work at Baywood Greens Golf Club and through volunteer experiences connected to service and golf, including serving as an AJGA walking scorer. These experiences have helped me understand the game from different perspectives and have strengthened my appreciation for the golf community. Golf has shaped me into someone who is resilient, patient, and committed to improvement. It has taught me that challenges are part of life, but they do not have to define you. What matters is how you respond, how you treat others, and whether you keep working toward your goals. As I prepare to attend the University of Delaware, I plan to carry these lessons with me. I hope to continue playing golf, stay involved in the game, and use the values I have learned through golf in college, my future career, and my life. I would be honored to be considered for a scholarship that celebrates Scott A. Ross’s life and supports students who share his love for the game. Tom LoCasale Developing Character Through Golf Scholarship
The biggest life lesson I have learned through golf is that success comes from steady improvement, patience, and the ability to keep moving forward after setbacks. Golf is a game where you are constantly challenged. One bad shot, one missed putt, or one difficult round can test your confidence quickly. Over time, I have learned that the most important thing is not being perfect, but being able to respond the right way. Golf has taught me to stay composed, focus on the next shot, and keep working even when results do not come easily. I started playing golf when I was very young, and the game has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Through junior tournaments, high school matches, and countless hours of practice, I have learned that improvement does not happen all at once. It comes from showing up consistently, setting goals, accepting coaching, and being willing to work through mistakes. Some of my best growth as a golfer has come after disappointing rounds because those moments forced me to be honest with myself and find ways to improve. This lesson became even more meaningful when I moved to Delaware and joined Cape Henlopen High School. Starting over in a new school and community was not easy, but golf helped me find my place. By working hard, earning the trust of my teammates and coaches, and contributing to the team, I learned that perseverance and a positive attitude can open new opportunities. Being part of Cape’s Henlopen Conference Championship team showed me that golf is not only an individual sport, but also a way to build relationships, support others, and contribute to something bigger than myself. Golf has also taught me responsibility and character. Whether I am competing in a tournament, representing my high school, working at Baywood Greens Golf Club, or volunteering as a walking scorer, I understand that my actions matter. The honesty, sportsmanship, discipline, and respect required in golf are qualities that carry into every part of life. In the future, I plan to use these lessons throughout college, my career, and my personal life. At the University of Delaware, I know there will be challenges academically, socially, and personally. When those challenges come, I will rely on the same mindset golf has taught me: stay patient, keep improving, learn from mistakes, and focus on what I can control. I also hope to continue pursuing golf through club golf and remain connected to the game and the community around it. Golf has given me confidence, friendships, structure, and a strong work ethic. As I pursue a future in business, I believe the communication skills, perseverance, and focus I have developed through golf will help me succeed. Most importantly, golf has taught me that character is built over time. The way I handle pressure, setbacks, success, and responsibility says a lot about who I am. I plan to carry those lessons with me by working hard, treating others with respect, serving my community, and continuing to grow into the best version of myself.
