Learning to manage money is one of the most important skills my parents could ever taught me. My dad is a police officer, and my mom works at a non-profit organization. Since my parents chose careers that are focused on serving others rather than making a lot of money, we have always lived a very modest life. I have not always had the things I wanted, but my parents understood the importance of living within their means and saving for the things they wanted in life. They have taught me to do the same, and I am grateful for these lessons. As I think about my future, I want to follow in my parents' footsteps and serve others. I plan to enter the medical field as a doctor. Since my parents will not be able to financially help me with college, I know that investing in my education will mean that I have to make smart decisions. These smart decisions will involve me continuing to live within my means and save money when I can. Having to take out student loans is not something I am excited about, but I know that if I am cautious with my money management, I can find a way to afford my dreams. When I become a doctor, my first priority will be to use my salary to pay off my student loan debt and create a budget that allows me to use my money wisely. I believe that I will continue to follow the lessons my parents taught me about living within my means and saving, but I am also excited about practicing another lesson my parents taught me: serving others. Since doctors generally make enough money to live comfortably, I plan to invest money into my community. Because my parents have instilled in me strong sense of community service, I plan to volunteer my time and give my money to causes that are important. For me, that is helping make sure that people in our community have access to proper medical care. I have always been interested in health and wellness, and by serving as a doctor, I will not only serve my patients, but I will also serve people in my community that do not always receive regular health care services. Making smart financial decisions will allow me the opportunity to invest my money in things that matter to me personally and professionally. For me, that is community health.
