Bio

My name is Russell Simington and I am a freshman attending college at Cameron University, studying for a major in engineering, with a minor in music. After joining a STEM club program at my Junior High School, and having excelled in the program, from there on I was passionate about learning more about the STEM field of study. Thereafter, I enrolled in a summer program at OSU and also attended two years of vocational classes in my Sophomore and Senior year of High School at VOTECH, all while still practicing, tutoring, and performing in my orchestra music, playing my cello at various local community functions and benefits. Upon the completion of college, I will be the first person to graduate college in my family, and I am encouraged to use my skills learned to contribute to the exciting technological advances that are made available in the STEM industry. I am inspired daily by my parents to excel in my studies. In my free time, I also enjoy playing tennis and playing video games.

My favorite scientific discovery would be electricity. The current generation of electricity is fossil fuels (coal, natural gas, and petroleum), and nuclear energy. My favorite form of generating electric energy is those that use renewable energy sources, wind, and solar respectfully. Most electricity currently is generated by steam turbines using fossil fuels, nuclear, biomass, geothermal, or solar thermal energy. Each year civilization relies on more and more electricity to power their homes and business with up-to-date technologies. Electricity is an essential part of modern life and important to the U.S. economy. People use electricity for lighting, heating, cooling, refrigeration, and for operating appliances, computers, electronics, machinery, and public transportation systems. Plants have a physical footprint (the location of the power plant). As our consumption continues to grow we will need new earth-friendly ways to produce energy. Most large power plants require land clearing to build the power plant. Some power plants may also require access roads, railroads, and pipelines for fuel delivery, electricity transmission lines, and cooling water supplies. Power plants that burn solid fuels may have areas to store the combustion ash. Many power plants are large structures that alter the visual landscape. In general, the larger the structure, the more likely it is that the power plant will affect the visual landscape.

I am very passionate about STEM since I have always excelled in Math and Science in school. I have enjoyed using and learning critical thinking skills. I've always had a passion for creativity and innovation. I also enjoy encompassing the benefit of learning science, technology, math, and engineering. There so by continuing to further my STEM education will assist me in learning additional problem-solving and exploratory skills that will help fuel my success across a variety of tasks and disciplines, and help me achieve my goals in the career of my choice. My other passion is music. I joined the school orchestra, as a cellist in 5th., grade. Ever since then I have always been in the school orchestra all the way up to my senior year in high school. After graduating, I enrolled at my local college, pursuing a major in Engineering and a minor in Music. All my life, my parents have always been small business entrepreneurs as an artist and graphic artists. They have told me of all the hardships of them starting their minority-owned business in a city that lacked diversity. They are still in business but have faced additional challenges since the pandemic. But through online innovations, they were able to adapt to the challenges and changes needed to be successful during the pandemic industry-wide and were able to continue their goals in their small business. My career goals are that in addition to having an engineering career, I will also tutor music as a small business entrepreneur. Thus, always making sure to encourage other young minorities as well as others to express their creativity in the arts, and other fields that encompass using their creativity, ideas, natural-born talents, and using their perspectives that would be useful in local and worldwide industries. Innovation is the lifeblood of all organizations big, small, mom or pops. Companies that want to succeed at innovation will need new insights, new viewpoints, and new roles. I am determined to be the face of innovation.
