Ryan Murray Red Canyon Scholarship Award
I present myself as Ruby Trejo Ontiveros, and my academic plan after graduation has been adjusting in the last three months due to all the difficulties I had due to FAFSA being delayed, although I had already concluded. With the help of my high school teachers and counselor, I plan to attend Metropolitan State University and graduate with a degree in International Business. Throughout my college career, I plan to be a full-time student and dedicate my time to studying and using the opportunities I have been offered. I am deeply grateful for all the help York International has given me, not only to have been offered a scholarship, which I won thanks to the help of my teachers, but also for all the guiding, clubs, and programs that have helped me know myself better and figure out what I want to pursue and why. For example, from a young age, I had always been interested in business and the structure and time it takes a business to succeed. My parents' business was my principal influence since they had a bakery and they ran it by themselves, and it was interesting to see them work and organize themselves. I told my teachers my story and interest in business, but I did not know what I wanted to do with the thought. I clearly remember the day I figured out what type of business I wanted to do, and it was through the help of my debate coach that he asked me about what other things motivated me to continue college. I answered about how wonderful it would be to be around different languages and visit other countries, where my teacher then introduced me to international business. I am deeply grateful for all the help I got in high school and advice that I still keep with me through the path of my education. I truly hope that more high schools in Colorado help their students as they did to me and receive recognition for all the hard work these High schools have been putting in. Although it is hard to go according to the plan perfectly due to the nature of life, I have quite an enthusiasm for what the future holds for me and if my academic plan does change I know I will be capable of figuring out a plan B. I would like to thank all of you for reading this short essay and for taking the time to get to know a little bit of 1 out of all the Colorado students.
