I have been passionate about both music and academics for as long as I can remember. Attending a small performing arts school has provided me with incredible opportunities, including singing at Carnegie Hall and Disneyland. I have also contributed to my choir’s success, helping us win the state championship twice and earn a second-place award.
In addition to choir, I am part of a successful local band that performs multiple times a month. As the guitarist and booking manager, I’ve gained valuable experience in music performance, production, composition, and the business side of the industry.
Academically, I am equally dedicated. I am on track to graduate a year early as salutatorian, having taken dual credit classes since eighth grade and maintained a 4.26 GPA.
Looking ahead, I aspire to enter the music business as an artist manager or A&R representative, combining my passion for music and my business experience.

“If music isn't the only thing you want to do with your life, music school is not the right fit for you," said my ensemble teacher at the Berklee College of Music Guitar Intensive. In that moment, I realized that music isn't just something I love, it's the life I want to build.
I was born into a family of artists and musicians where creativity was always around me. I learned early on that art could bring meaning and connection, and it’s always been a much-needed source of comfort for me. My life at home was difficult. I grew up in a broken home with newly divorced parents and a mother battling alcoholism. At just six years old, I became a caregiver for my mother, looking after her, our house, our pets, and myself when she couldn’t handle those responsibilities on her own.
As I got older, her addiction worsened, and I had to grow up quickly. A few months ago, things hit a new low. My mom was hospitalized in a life-threatening condition for two months. At 16, I became her sole legal caregiver. I spent up to 11 hours a day at the hospital, talking to doctors, managing her care, and reinstating her lapsed health insurance to avoid $800,000 in medical bills. It was the most overwhelming time in my life, and for a while, I believed I might need to give up my dream of music to become her full-time caregiver.
That thought was heartbreaking. Music has always been my lifeline and has gotten me through countless low points in my life. Every time I perform or learn something new, I feel a sense of purpose that nothing else gives me. I believe that art can heal, not just those who create it, but those who experience it, and I know I wouldn’t be here today without it.
Thankfully, after months of intense care and rehabilitation, my mom recovered, allowing me to return to school, rehearsals, and performing. Still, the pressure to remain home and care for my family lingered. After her hospital stay, I began seriously considering staying home permanently to care for my parents, now in their late 60s. The thought of giving up my music career was saddening, but it felt like it might be my only option, both morally and financially.
A few months later, I was given the opportunity to attend the Guitar Intensive program at Berklee College of Music. For one week, I lived a life surrounded by students who shared my passion. It opened my eyes to what my future could look like if I choose to follow my dreams, and helped me realize that there is a whole world outside of taking care of my parents. It felt amazing to be true to myself in a new environment, and it showed me how fulfilling my life can be if I work hard enough.
Now, more than ever, I am dedicated to pursuing a professional music career. I plan to attend a top music school, grow as a performer and songwriter, and eventually use my art to help others heal, just as it helped me. This scholarship would place me one step closer to making that vision a reality. It would help lift the financial burden I carry and allow me to focus fully on my growth as a musician and person. More importantly, it would affirm that my future is worth investing in.
