Since I was a child, I have always believed that the most important attribute one could have is humility. I grew up not having much and most of what I accomplish stems from the desire to empower myself and establish a more secure and good future. My career goal is to become a primary care physician because of my drive to aid others through health and making choices that would create better opportunities for individuals who share my background of not having much, being a Mexican-American, and being from a single-parent household.
My long-term goal for my future is to become a primary care physician and establish a private practice in my hometown (Tracy, CA). To this day, I would hear family and friends talk about how unfair, expensive, and confusing medical attention would be in Tracy and so I set out to do something to mitigate these issues. I want to establish a healthy connection between my community and the medical field based on patient-centered dynamics, trust, and cultural humility.

I always like to say that without faith, I would not be able to have a safety net from all of the problems of the world. Since birth, we are catapulted into a world of injustice, discrimination, and polarization. However, through faith, we can find an escape. John 17: 16 tell us that we inhabit the world but we are not of the world, and so this requires that we detach ourselves from the mechanisms of the world and set our sights to something greater: constant practice of our faith.
I am a firm believer that as a leader, one must have integrity. Being able to do good even when no one watches us, is the essence of living trough faith. Jesus Christ, even when he was being tempted, did not submit to that evildoer, but rather rejected it and let his faith and love towards God envelop him and guide him.
For some context about me, I hope to one day become a primary care physician, but I made it a personal mission to never abandon my faith because I recognize that without God we are nothing. Even though I am a full-time undergraduate student with a range of extracurricular activities, I never leave my spiritual and church-related duties to the side.
Being a peer advisor at my school allows me to show kindness and helpfulness to my fellow peers which stop by the office where I work to receive assistance. I always try to make their visit as efficient and helpful as possible, and I do it because I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ: we must love each other without prejudice or conditions.
I also a medical volunteer at a local student-run clinic called the Knights Landing One Health Center. Currently, I am the Executive Administrator, which is the most senior leadership position that a volunteer can have. My goal is to lead my fellow peers not from a place of power, but working and learning alongside my friends, striving towards a better future for ourselves and the community of Knights Landing which we serve.
Another quality that I try to maintain is humility. My mother, before I started my undergraduate journey, gave me that piece of advice. With it, I honor my mother in following the fifth of the Ten Commandments, and I also honor the life of Jesus Christ as he himself never acted out of pride or with ulterior motives. He is the most Humble and the greatest role model that anyone can follow.
One thing that I have realized since I was a child was just how difficult it was to find selfless people who do good without expecting anything in this world. I have ever since seen that there are people against this who exist, but not enough to make a system-wide change and as such I aim to be a leader of faith. Someone who serves and helps without the need to receive anything in return. A life dedicated to service is the least that I can commit to in order to honor my ancestors, my family, my single mother, and God.
God willing, if I become a primary care physician, I will use all the means necessary to assist students like me who might only have dreams to become physicians. I want to help those who do not trust the medical system, due to a lack of Spanish interpreters or because of the lack of quality of care based on demographic factors. I want to make the most positive change I can, because my Lord did so in me.
