My name is Roya Hasani, I am 21 years old, and I am enrolling to Paul Mitchell the School-East Bay in August of this year. I love fashion, beauty, video games, and my dog Ruby. Ever since I was a child, cosmetology has always been a huge part of my life, whether it was doing my own hair, painting my nails, or begging my older sisters to do my makeup for me. I would "host" fashion shows, which was basically me making my family sit down and watch me try on silly outfits. Pursuing a career in cosmetology is important to me because I've always believed that it is a beautiful way to express yourself. To not let others affect how you choose to present yourself in your appearance can be very difficult for some people, and I would be honored to be someone who aids in helping my clients find themselves. I believe in a world where everyone has freedom of expression, and not judging them for it. I plan on specializing in vivids and alternative haircuts, as it speaks to me in a way other styles have not. I have always been what others call different, and I recall many instances in middle school where my peers would make me feel bad, or weird about the way I chose and still choose to express myself, I've given myself many DIY haircuts at home, along with many different colors. I have never let anyone dim my light, and I want to be able to encourage others to do the same. My parents left Afghanistan to give me and my siblings a better life here in America. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had since growing up here, and I want to pursue my dreams not just for myself, but for them. I have told everyone in my life how I want to become a hairstylist. I attempted community college, mainly out of peer pressure, and after 2 semesters, I quickly realized it just is not for me. I have never been passionate about any of the fields that typical colleges represent, because while they are interesting, I just can not see myself pursuing a full time career in any of those fields. I have come to realize that it is okay to not want to experience the college lifestyle and that there is no shame in not wanting to go to a 4 year after high school. What is more important is doing what you love, and not letting anybody dictate what you should and should not do with your life. I want to live a fulfilling life, which starts with me pursuing a career in a field I have genuine love and interest in, and that is cosmetology.
