Proverbs 3:27 Scholarship
My goal in life has always been to make a difference. As a child, my dream career changed constantly, from doctor to teacher to police officer, but the reason behind each one never did. I wanted to help people. As I have grown, that purpose has become more focused, leading me toward a career in law where I can advocate for others and work toward a more equitable justice system.
Serving my community has been a meaningful part of shaping who I am. Through mission trips, I have had the opportunity to work closely with individuals in need, and these experiences have taught me the true meaning of service. Whether I was talking with Miss Hope, a young woman living with blindness, or repairing siding for Miss Linda in South Dakota, I learned that helping others is not just about completing tasks; it is about building relationships and showing people that they are valued. In many situations, I found that listening and offering support were just as important as the physical work we were doing.
These experiences also taught me what it means to lead. While working in difficult conditions, including long hours and extreme heat, I stepped up to help maintain morale within my group. I made sure everyone had a chance to rest while also keeping the work moving forward. By encouraging others and creating a positive environment, I helped our team accomplish more than we thought possible. In the end, we did not just repair a house; we helped restore a sense of hope and connection for someone who needed it.
In addition to service, I have been involved in Mock Trial since middle school, where I have developed a passion for advocacy and justice. These experiences have shown me how important it is to speak up for others, especially those who may not have the ability or resources to advocate for themselves. This passion was strengthened when I witnessed a close friend navigate immigration court without access to strong legal representation. Seeing that struggle reinforced my commitment to serving others through a future career in law.
If awarded this scholarship, I would use the money to purchase textbooks and educational materials. This support would allow me to focus on my studies without needing to take on a job, giving me more time to continue volunteering in my community. Being able to dedicate my time to both my education and service would help me grow into the kind of person and professional I aspire to be.
I believe that making a difference starts with small, consistent actions. Through my service, my education, and my future career, I am committed to helping others and working toward a more just and compassionate world.
