Bio

An aspiring UX Engineer with a love for anything art-related! Hi! I'm Roua and I'm of Sudanese origin and I have been living in the USA for 16 years now. I have always had a passion for anything art-related. In high school I took a variety of art courses ranging from painting and ceramics. In college I used to be a Neuroscience major and I changed my major after three years in the program to pursue a degree in Computer Information and Technology Systems. It has honestly been the best decision thus far. I wanted to combine my love for art and design with my degree and found that a career in UX Design is perfect. It allows me to use a gift and passion of mine with skills that I'm currently learning in college.

Hello! I'm Roua [roo-ah]! I'm an immigrant from Sudan studying Computer Information Systems & Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas. I've always had a passion for anything art-related, so naturally, my future career has to be within that realm. After I graduate, I will be working in the technology field as a UX/UI Designer. I'm genuinely grateful and ecstatic that I will get to work a job that I truly enjoy! Community service can be defined as doing something for a community without the intention of getting a reward or money. I personally believe that community service comes with a reward. This reward is in the form of fulfillment, finding purpose, and simply just filling your heart with a warm feeling. I currently volunteer at a children's Arabic and Quran school. I have been serving the community at this school for over a year now. This experience has honestly been a light in my life. Children are so carefree and innocent, and you can learn a lot about your outlook on life the more that you interact with them. With their innocence comes selflessness. This has taught me a lot about what it takes to be a person who embodies servitude only for the betterment of others within their community. I usually spend about 4 to 6 hours a week volunteering at the school. I basically do anything that will aid the school in growing and positively changing kids' lives. My daily tasks involve administrative tasks, social media management, teaching Arabic, cleaning, setting up events, and more. My most memorable event at the school that has made a big impact was the fundraiser that I planned in order to raise money for the school. The school is family-owned, and a lot of the time, they are short on money towards the end of the month due to bills and rent of the building. While working with the administration, I got to know the owner on a personal level, and I learned about her financial difficulties. I truly saw her passion for teaching and helping kids grow, and it inspired me to start a fundraiser. I was basically in charge of everything from planning the event to advertising it on social media. We ended up raising $5000 to fund the school's needs. This filled my heart with fulfillment. But it was overflowing with it when I was met with tears and hugs from the owner of the school. The fact that I could be of help to lessen the burden of another human being created a feeling of purpose within me. With the funds that were raised, the school was able to maintain its building and continue to provide a nurturing environment for kids within my community. What I have learned during my time at the school is a lesson that I will carry with me into my future career after I graduate. There are specific fields within the UX/UI Design field that focus on improving accessibility to technology for those with disabilities. I plan on implementing the same selflessness that I learned from children into my work. Although I will be getting compensated in my future career, I will feel a true sense of fulfillment that is greater in value than money through helping others live their lives easily and with peace of mind.
