Bio
My grandfather was a professor of Environmental Education; he would take my sister and I out to experience and appreciate nature. My interest in the environment and my desire to protect grew as I did. This love reflected in my studies, including my favorite class, AP Environmental Science. Not only was it taught by my favorite teacher, but it also gave us outdoor opportunities to see topics discussed in class manifest in areas around our school. We debated best forest management, nonrenewable resources, solutions to overpopulation, meat industry practices and more. This previous summer, I was again able to put my class into practice as a counselor. One major foundation of my camp is encouraging kids to grow by experiencing new outdoor activities. And with my love of the environment, it has become one of my favorite aspects of being a counselor to watch campers learn to love their environment. In just two weeks, I have seen an amazing turnaround of kids starting out afraid of bugs to wanting to make bug homes, befriend every bug they see and stay outside forever. It is amazing to display the beauty of our natural world and teach kids how to protect and love it. I hope to continue to follow my passion and promote sustainability. I hope to major in Environmental Studies and Political Science to lead to a law degree and work in environmental policy. From there, I would be able to devote my work to protect our beautiful Earth.

Wicked Fan Scholarship
I adore Wicked because of its message of growth. We do not as human beings start out perfect - it's impossible. However, in shows such as Wicked we can learn how to grow to be more understanding, loving and authentic. Glinda and Elphaba, as well as many of the characters they meet along the way, display immense growth in their ability to understand each other and themselves. Furthermore, they learn how to find and express their love...certainly through trial and error. Most importantly, they learn how to express their authentic selves. In the end, instead of trying to force themselves to be friends in a way which would restrict Glinda and Elphaba from being their true selves, they sing how they have to be free and go their own ways. Only by being on their own separate paths can they express their love for each other and their friendship. The leads become their own unique selves. They preach for their morals and have a greater sense of identity. The show Wicked expresses immense growth in its plot and music. Growth which can be incredibly difficult to face despite its true necessity. Growth which can lead to a happier and free life in the future. Growth which can change the world. I am a fan of Wicked because it inspires me to grow to be a better person.
