To start id like to tell a story about how i changed my acedemic ways. Staring at a laptop screen at 7:45 AM was ok, but when it's everyday for a whole 6 hours it becomes maddening. When Online learning started in 2020 it wasn't only a different learning experience but a surreal experience, being a part of a moment in history is kind of wild. When you forget that you are living through one of the largest worldwide pandemics in decades you realize how strange of a space you are in. Throughout my High school experience I have been through a lot of setbacks from the pandemic to teacher strikes. My academic mindset has changed a lot throughout that time from being a person that believed that the bare minimum mattered and never reaching out or being social in school enough, To realizing the importance of persevering in your own way. Humans are social creatures, communication is vital to our survival. When that connection is severed out of the blue it can pose detrimental problems to the mental health of someone. Although this change of schooling wasn't all terrible the effects started to make me less willing to participate academically so my grades and mindset took a negative hit. As this school year went by, I was just dredging along not really realizing how this mindset would negatively affect me. Somewhere along the line I reflected on how my lifestyle will change who I am and how I can change for the better. I thought to myself, If we all rushed to finish what is hard just to be done, when will we find value or learn something important? Through these blockades I recognized that nothing can change for us. Things will change around us but for us to persevere in an unpredictable space you have to adapt. I was able to succeed in online learning after finding a new productive mindset. This not only helped me then but it helped me now. The learning from that time that I carry with me to the future is incredibly valuable. When you reach a low there really is no way to go but up, in the case of my academic life I was able to take advantage of a negative experience and use it to change how I view learning and hard work in general. This experience will continue to be rough, but with a positive mindset you can take a setback and learn something new and helpful from it.
