WinnerGrowing up in Camden has shaped me in many ways. The close-knit community and having a family that values pursuing higher education has instilled in me the importance of going to college after high school. My family continues to encourage me to do my best and strive to better myself. Watching my parents work hard to provide for me and improve their lives has motivated me to follow in their footsteps and pursue higher education.
Throughout my high school journey, I have committed myself to academic excellence while being involved in extracurricular activities. These experiences have helped me develop social skills, work ethics, and responsibilities. I plan to attend the University of North Texas and major in Political Science. Throughout my life I’ve had my ear into the political scene. Spending lots of time around family members with different political beliefs and watching political focused news stations, politics have been a huge part of my life. Understanding the political sides of things, whether it’s an organization or the beliefs of my peers, has given me a strong passion for politics. Being exposed to different perspectives has helped me learn how to understand both sides of issues and think more critically about the world around me. Understanding the political sides of things, whether it’s an organization or the beliefs of my peers, has given me a strong passion for politics and a desire to stay informed and involved.
In the future, I aspire to attend law school in hopes of becoming a lawyer. Learning about social injustice and injustice within the law, has instilled a fire in me to dedicate myself to helping others fight against unfair courts and an unfair legal system. Seeing how different races and ethnicities have been treated unfairly makes me feel that I have a responsibility and capability to do something to fix that. Having a career in law will allow me to stand up against the justice system and make lasting changes within it.
Growing up in Camden in the family that I did, has instilled key values that guide me in my life today. My family's determination to further their education and improve their lives through it has shown me the dedication and perseverance involved in doing so. Being introduced to politics at a young age has given me an interest that I am passionate about and feel I can be very successful majoring in. Reducing the financial stress of paying for college will relieve the stress on my parents and allow me to work at my full potential knowing that others have confidence in my ability to succeed. I will continue to work and contribute to my community bettering myself and the generations that are after me.
