As I reflect upon my experiences and aspirations, I am drawn to a career that combines my passion for law enforcement, my commitment to public service, and the desire to make a difference in society. This is precisely why pursuing a college degree in criminal justice, to become a CBP (Customs and Border Protection) Officer, resonates profoundly with me. The prospect of safeguarding the nation's borders, combating illicit activities, and upholding the principles of justice drives me to take on this exciting and challenging path. Growing up, I was always intrigued by crime shows, and the idea of understanding criminal behavior piqued my interest. However, it wasn't until I participated in a ride-along program with my local law enforcement agencies that I realized how passionate I was about making a real impact in the field. Observing the dedication of CBP officers and their crucial role in protecting our borders further solidified my desire to pursue this career. For as long as I can remember, I have been deeply committed to public service. The prospect of working for the greater good and ensuring the safety of citizens is what motivates me. There is no better way to serve my country than by taking on the responsibility of a CBP Officer, as their role extends beyond enforcing customs and immigration laws. CBP officers contribute to national security, safeguard the economy, and protect innocent individuals from the threats posed by illegal activities. The significance of this career choice goes beyond personal gain – it is about making a lasting impact on society. Criminal justice, coupled with the expertise gained from a college degree, offers me a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding border protection. I aspire to utilize this knowledge to ensure the swift and equitable administration of justice. My goal is to make a difference by intercepting illicit goods, preventing human trafficking, combating narcotics smuggling, and safeguarding our nation from potential threats. Pursuing a college degree in criminal justice will not only provide me with a solid foundation of knowledge but also enable me to develop crucial skills that are essential in this profession. Through coursework, internships, and hands-on experiences, I will gain invaluable insights into criminal law, investigative techniques, criminology, and community policing. Additionally, I will have the opportunity to engage in experiential learning, ensuring that I am well-prepared for the multifaceted challenges I may face as a CBP Officer. Becoming a CBP Officer through attaining a college degree in criminal justice is not just a career choice for me; it is an unwavering commitment to public service and an opportunity to contribute to the safety and security of our nation. With my passion for law enforcement, dedication to public service, and a comprehensive education in criminal justice, I believe I have the necessary tools to excel in this demanding yet rewarding field. By becoming a CBP Officer, I aim to play an active role in fostering a safer and more secure future for all.

"You are not good enough"! Words that rang in my head every time I left the football field at Eagle Pass Junior High. Some coaches feel that breaking you down to your core will motivate you to become a better player. This is not always the case. Insecurity began to build up within me. This led to a fractured clavicle during our Thursday night game. I never threw another pass again. I am fortunate to have a mother that believes in me unconditionally. She has instilled in me that setbacks are opportunities to welcome unexpected gifts. The love of football inspired me to actively pursue ways to stay involved. I just couldn't think of how. I spoke to my mom about my frustrations. As is customary, she hugged me and said "My love everything will be ok". The next morning my elementary football coach "unexpectedly" showed up at my front door. It was a beautiful Saturday morning. He asked if I wanted to take a walk. I eagerly accepted. He proceeded to show me pictures of our championship game. Remember this? he asked. I tried to hold back my tears and said yes I do. Nothing has changed son. You are still one of the best quarterbacks I have ever coached. You have a gift that you need to share. Son, if you choose not to play then coach. The following three years have been spent on football fields filled with 6 -12-year-olds who share my love for football. Endless practices that led to countless wins and a few losses. The joy that I see in those young eyes fills my heart. They are young men eager to hear words of encouragement which I share with them every chance I get. The end of the season came. I remember my greatest supporter in the stands proudly looking down at me on the field. The boys surrounded me as we prepared to accept our second-place trophy. I felt joy, pride and sadness all at once. Suddenly a text came through. It read Isaiah 60:22. A smile came over me as I looked up to the stands. My favorite biblical quote from a person who has never doubted that I will overcome any obstacle life throws my way. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay. God bless you! Isaiah 60:22 When the time is right. I the LORD will make it happen
