My path to nursing is rooted in a lifelong commitment to turning personal tragedy into service. The loss of my father to suicide as a high school junior became the defining challenge of my early life. While I initially found a career as a hospitality professional, I always knew my purpose lay elsewhere. My years of dedication to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), where I had the honor of serving as the Walk Co-Chair at Coors Field, solidified my decision to enter the healthcare field. I began by becoming a certified phlebotomist, playing a hands-on role in saving lives through plasma donation. Today, I am grateful to be a nursing student, focused on becoming a Registered Nurse (RN). My future lies in behavioral health, where I will be able to offer unwavering support and compassion. More than a career, this journey is a message to my high school-aged stepchildren: that with determination, any hardship can be overcome, and anything in life is achievable.
