    Kumar Family Scholarship
y name is Rim Bessaih, and I am a sophomore at Rutgers University, studying Biotechnology with a minor in Public Health. Coming from a low-income background, I’ve experienced firsthand the financial struggles that many families face, especially when it comes to healthcare. Hospital bills have been a significant burden on my family, and this has inspired me to pursue a career where I can advocate for affordable healthcare and contribute to scientific research that makes life-saving treatments more accessible to all. Growing up, I always dreamed of being able to help my family and make my parents proud. They’ve sacrificed so much to provide for me, and I want to give back to them by excelling in my education and becoming the first in my family to achieve a professional career in science and healthcare. My experiences have shaped my passion for biotechnology, particularly in how it can be applied to improve public health and provide solutions to the pressing issues that low-income families face in accessing proper medical care. As a student, I am deeply committed to learning about the science behind medicine and how it intersects with public health policy. I want to contribute to research that helps develop more affordable healthcare systems, so that families like mine do not have to choose between medical bills and basic needs. My ultimate goal is to become a scientist and advocate who works to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare, regardless of their financial background. Receiving this scholarship would be a tremendous help in achieving these goals. Being from a low-income family, I have always had to carefully balance my educational expenses with the financial challenges we face. This scholarship would ease that burden, allowing me to focus more on my studies and less on the constant worry of how to pay for tuition and materials. It would give me the opportunity to fully invest in my academic and career development. More importantly, this scholarship would help me take the next step toward making my parents proud. I want to show them that their sacrifices have not been in vain and that I can build a future where I contribute meaningfully to healthcare and public health. With this scholarship, I would be able to continue my education and pursue a career dedicated to improving healthcare systems, ensuring that others do not have to face the same struggles that my family did.
    Team USA Fan Scholarship
My favorite athlete to cheer for on Team USA is Simone Biles. Not only is she one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, but her resilience, mental toughness, and advocacy for mental health make her an inspiring figure beyond sports. Watching Simone compete is mesmerizing—her routines, filled with some of the most difficult skills ever attempted in gymnastics, push the boundaries of the sport. She has won numerous Olympic and World Championship medals, cementing her legacy as a legend in the gymnastics world. What sets Simone apart for me is her openness about mental health. During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she made the courageous decision to withdraw from multiple events due to mental health struggles, prioritizing her well-being over the world’s expectations. This choice sparked an important global conversation about the immense pressure athletes face and the importance of taking care of mental health. Simone’s willingness to share her vulnerability on such a large platform showed that even the best athletes can struggle, and that it’s okay to step back when necessary. Simone Biles is an athlete who inspires not just through her extraordinary abilities but through her bravery and dedication to mental wellness, making her my favorite to cheer for.
    Bear Fan Scholarship
For The Bear, the perfect ending would center around Carmy finding balance between his passion for the culinary arts and his personal well-being. Over the series, we’ve seen him grapple with the pressures of running a restaurant while trying to overcome the trauma of his brother’s death. In the final episode, I imagine Carmy successfully establishing The Original Beef as one of Chicago’s top restaurants, but more importantly, finding peace in his role. Instead of constantly chasing perfection, he would realize that success is not just in the accolades but in the joy of cooking and the community he’s built. Sydney would come into her own as a chef, gaining the recognition she deserves. In the end, she would stay by Carmy’s side, but on equal footing, perhaps even opening her own spin-off restaurant. Richie, having evolved from his earlier aimlessness, would find a meaningful role within the restaurant, balancing his love for tradition with the modern vision of the business. As for Marcus, I’d want to see him fully embrace his pastry talents and find joy in his craft, maybe even traveling the world to refine his skills. The perfect ending would show everyone thriving not just in their careers, but in their personal lives too.
    LeBron James Fan Scholarship
I’m a fan of LeBron James because of his remarkable combination of athleticism, intelligence, and leadership both on and off the court. His ability to perform at an elite level for over two decades is nothing short of astonishing. LeBron has won championships with three different teams, proving his adaptability and influence in various team dynamics. His skill set is versatile, excelling in scoring, passing, rebounding, and defending, making him one of the most complete basketball players in history. Additionally, LeBron’s leadership extends beyond basketball through his philanthropy, activism, and his commitment to empowering communities, which I deeply admire. The question of whether LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time is a tough one. While many argue for Michael Jordan due to his six championships and dominance in the 90s, LeBron’s career longevity and consistency stand out. LeBron has reached 10 NBA Finals and holds numerous records for playoff performances. His ability to maintain such a high level of play across different eras and teams gives him a unique edge. Ultimately, I believe LeBron’s versatility, longevity, and off-court impact make him one of the greatest players, though the GOAT debate will always be subjective based on personal values.
    Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
Billie Eilish’s music speaks to people on a personal level, as her ability to combine raw emotion with powerful storytelling sets her apart in the music industry. Among her many songs, three resonate with me the most: "everything i wanted," "idontwannabeyouanymore," and "when the party's over." These songs reflect feelings of vulnerability, self-reflection, and emotional growth, all of which have connected deeply with my personal experiences. The first song, "everything i wanted," resonates with me because it encapsulates the struggle between success and mental health. Billie talks about having everything she thought she wanted but feeling lost, unfulfilled, and overwhelmed. As someone who’s had experiences with mental health challenges, this song reminds me of how external success doesn’t always translate to internal happiness. The vulnerability in her lyrics, “I tried to scream, but my head was underwater,” echoes the feeling of being trapped by invisible struggles. It’s comforting to know that even someone as successful as Billie Eilish deals with similar internal battles, and it reminds me to prioritize my mental well-being over the pressure to achieve. The second song that resonates with me is "idontwannabeyouanymore." This track speaks to the theme of self-doubt and struggling with self-image, something I’ve battled with throughout my life. Billie’s raw honesty when she sings, “If teardrops could be bottled, there’d be swimming pools filled by models,” speaks to the unrealistic standards society often sets for us, especially women. For me, this song is an anthem for self-acceptance and reminds me that it’s okay to feel flawed. It’s a reminder that self-worth comes from within, not from external validation, and has helped me embrace my own identity rather than constantly comparing myself to others. Lastly, "when the party's over" resonates with me on a deeply emotional level due to its themes of heartbreak, detachment, and loneliness. The song’s melancholic tone and haunting melody reflect moments when I’ve had to let go of people or situations that were no longer healthy for me. The line, “I’ll only hurt you if you let me,” highlights the complexity of relationships and how sometimes the right decision, even if it’s painful, is to walk away. Listening to this song reminds me of the importance of emotional boundaries and self-preservation, even when it’s difficult. In conclusion, Billie Eilish’s music resonates with me because it delves into deeply personal and relatable experiences. "everything i wanted" reflects the battle between success and mental health, "idontwannabeyouanymore" addresses the struggle with self-image, and "when the party's over" speaks to emotional detachment and heartbreak. These songs are not just pieces of music but personal reflections that have helped me navigate complex emotions and experiences.

For me, it reflects the overwhelming sense of never quite fitting in and the insecurities that come with trying to navigate relationships, friendships, and self-identity during the teenage years. This lyric speaks to the essence of adolescence—those moments where every action feels like a potential embarrassment, and every social interaction feels like a high-stakes game. As a teenager, I often found myself second-guessing everything I did or said, convinced that any misstep would be disastrous. The lyric “Everything I do is tragic” encapsulates that hyper-awareness and tendency to blow small mistakes out of proportion. Whether it was fumbling through a conversation or feeling like I was the odd one out in a group of friends, there was always a sense of inadequacy lurking in the background. The second part of the lyric, “Every guy I like is gay,” adds a layer of humor but also highlights the confusion and heartbreak that come with teenage crushes. Like many teens, I experienced crushes that didn’t work out, and it always felt like I was liking the wrong people. The lyric captures the frustration of developing feelings for someone and realizing that they aren’t interested in you in the way you hoped. It’s a playful but poignant reminder of the emotional rollercoaster that comes with teenage romance—where feelings often seem to be unreciprocated or misdirected, leaving you feeling misunderstood or alone. Rodrigo’s lyric also taps into the universal experience of feeling out of place during adolescence. Those years are filled with uncertainty, as teens try to figure out who they are and where they fit in. For me, that meant navigating new social circles and dealing with the pressure to conform to certain standards, all while trying to stay true to myself. The lyric “Everything I do is tragic” perfectly describes that constant battle between wanting to be accepted and fearing that you’ll never truly belong. The song, and particularly this lyric, serves as a reminder that these awkward, uncomfortable moments are a shared part of growing up. Simon Strong Scholarship
As a Muslim, I’ve faced my share of adversity, especially in the form of bullying and racism. Growing up, I often found myself the target of hurtful comments and actions simply because of my religion. People would make racist remarks, mock my beliefs, and try to make me feel small for something that is a significant part of who I am. These moments were tough, and as a young person, it can be hard to understand why people act out of ignorance or hate. However, this experience taught me valuable lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today. One of the key ways I overcame this adversity was through patience. It wasn’t easy, and there were times when I felt angry or hurt, but I knew that reacting with the same negativity wouldn’t help the situation. Instead, I chose not to let their words get to me. I learned that their opinions and comments didn’t define my worth or the importance of my faith. Patience helped me rise above the situation and remain grounded in my values. Another thing that helped me was understanding that everything happens for a reason. While bullying is never acceptable, I believe that these experiences taught me resilience and gave me a better perspective on life. Through these challenges, I’ve developed a thicker skin and a strong sense of self. I’ve also learned to have empathy for others who may face similar struggles and to stand up against injustice whenever I see it. This adversity has shaped me into someone who strives to be the bigger person. I now realize that it takes strength not to retaliate with the same hate or anger. By staying true to my faith and maintaining patience, I’ve grown more confident in who I am and what I stand for. It has also taught me the importance of kindness, even in the face of negativity. If I were to give advice to someone facing the same circumstances, I would tell them that patience is powerful. It’s easy to get angry or feel defeated when others are unkind, but it’s far more rewarding to stay calm and rise above the situation. Everything happens for a reason, and sometimes, adversity teaches us more about ourselves than any good experience ever could. I would also remind them that being the bigger person shows strength and wisdom. While it may seem difficult in the moment, choosing not to let others’ actions bring you down is a powerful statement of self-worth. In the end, adversity can shape us in ways we never expected. Facing bullying for being Muslim was difficult, but it has made me stronger, more resilient, and more compassionate. I hope that anyone facing similar challenges can find the strength to persevere and rise above it, just as I did.

Some of my favorite songs are "Thumbs" and "Why," because they both have a catchy beat and meaningful lyrics. Every time I hear her songs, it feels like I’m listening to a friend who gets what I’m going through. Aside from her talent, I’m really inspired by Sabrina’s style and lifestyle. She always looks so put together, whether she’s on the red carpet or just posting on Instagram. Her hair is always flawless, and her outfits are trendy yet unique to her. I love how she expresses herself through fashion, and it makes me want to embrace my own style more confidently. Her lifestyle also seems so exciting – she travels, performs, and manages to stay grounded through it all. It’s inspiring to see someone who’s worked hard to achieve her dreams while staying true to who she is. Sabrina Carpenter’s career has had a big impact on me because she’s shown me that it’s possible to balance different passions and still be successful. She started as an actress but made a name for herself as a singer, proving that you don’t have to limit yourself to one path. Her journey reminds me that it’s okay to explore different interests and to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough. I aspire to have the same determination and courage that she has shown throughout her career. In many ways, I aspire to be like Sabrina Carpenter. I admire her talent, her style, and her ability to inspire others through her work. Whether it’s through her music or her acting, she’s had a positive influence on my life, and I’m excited to see what she’ll do next. Sabrina has taught me to be confident in myself and to chase my dreams, and for that, I will always be a fan.
    Women in Healthcare Scholarship
I have chosen to pursue a degree in healthcare because of my deep-rooted passion for science and my desire to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Growing up, I witnessed how health challenges could impact not only individuals but entire families. My personal experiences, particularly with mental health and the struggles my family faced, solidified my commitment to understanding the science behind health and using that knowledge to create solutions. This has driven me to study biotechnology, where I can combine my love for science with practical applications that have the potential to improve lives on a global scale. As a woman in the healthcare field, I am motivated by the opportunity to bring diversity, empathy, and a fresh perspective to a space that is still evolving in terms of gender representation. Women’s contributions to healthcare have historically been underappreciated, but I see this as a chance to break barriers and redefine the roles women play in shaping health outcomes. I hope to be a voice for those who are often marginalized or overlooked, especially in the realm of public health, where disparities still exist. By focusing on biotechnology and public health, I want to contribute to breakthroughs that will make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and equitable for all communities. My ambition goes beyond personal success. I want to be part of a new generation of healthcare professionals who are not only knowledgeable but compassionate. Whether it's through research, advocacy, or direct patient care, I aim to blend science with empathy to make healthcare more human-centered. I want to inspire other women, particularly those from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds like mine, to pursue careers in healthcare and know that they can make meaningful contributions. My drive stems from a desire to innovate and solve real-world problems, but more importantly, from my belief that healthcare is about improving lives. As I advance in my education and career, I aspire to be a leader who pushes for advancements in healthcare technology and mental health support. I want to use my background in biotechnology to address some of the world’s most pressing health challenges, such as chronic diseases and mental health disparities, while ensuring that solutions are grounded in compassion and understanding. Ultimately, I want my work in healthcare to have a lasting impact, not just in the development of new treatments, but in how healthcare systems function and support patients holistically. As a woman in this field, I aim to advocate for policies and practices that prioritize the well-being of all individuals, making healthcare a more inclusive, effective, and compassionate space for everyone.
    Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
My experience with mental health has profoundly shaped my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. At the age of 16, I became a birth mother and made the heart-wrenching decision to give my son, Zayn, up for adoption. It was the most difficult decision of my life, one that was compounded by the abusive relationship I had with his father, Will. The emotional and mental toll of these experiences left lasting scars on both me and my family, affecting our mental health in ways we never anticipated. The adoption, while done out of love for Zayn and to give him the life I felt I couldn’t provide, introduced overwhelming feelings of guilt, grief, and depression. I struggled with my identity and worth, feeling like I had lost a part of myself and was unworthy of happiness. The weight of that decision stayed with me, and it often felt like I was navigating through life without solid footing. My family, too, was deeply affected. They supported my decision but were also weighed down by the emotional aftermath. Mental health, which was something we rarely discussed before, became a central issue in our household as we all grappled with the consequences of adoption. It felt as if a dark cloud hovered over us, affecting our interactions, outlook, and emotional well-being. Over time, the lingering emotional effects prompted me to seek help through therapy, a decision that marked the turning point in my healing journey. Through therapy and self-reflection, I’ve come to believe that mental health is as vital as physical health and should never be ignored or stigmatized. I’ve learned that pain, though inevitable, doesn’t define us. The process of healing is not linear, and it’s okay to ask for help. These experiences have deepened my empathy, as I now understand the importance of emotional support systems and how crucial it is to have access to mental health resources. My struggles with mental health have also influenced my relationships. In my abusive relationship with Zayn’s father, Will, I experienced a profound lack of respect and emotional safety. That relationship shattered my sense of trust and self-worth. As a result, I now prioritize healthy boundaries and open communication in all my relationships. I've learned to recognize toxic dynamics and no longer tolerate unhealthy behaviors. This has empowered me to surround myself with people who truly care about my well-being and who understand the importance of mutual respect and compassion. I’ve also become an advocate for open discussions about mental health within my family, creating a safe space where we can express our emotions and support one another. These challenges have also shaped my career aspirations in a profound way. Having experienced firsthand the deep impact of mental health issues on both myself and my family, I’m motivated to pursue a career in public health and biotechnology, with a special focus on mental health advocacy. I want to contribute to creating systems that support mental wellness, ensuring that others who struggle with mental health don’t feel alone or powerless as I once did. My goal is to combine science and public health to develop better mental health programs and policies that prioritize access to care for vulnerable communities. Looking back, while the journey has been painful, it has also shaped me into a more resilient and compassionate person. My experiences have fueled a deep desire to make a difference in the world. I want to advocate for better mental health resources, especially for young people and those from marginalized communities. My journey has not only shaped my beliefs and relationships but also ignited a passion for improving the lives of others through the intersection of science, mental health, and public service.
    Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
One technology that inspires me about its potential to make the world a better place is gene therapy, a groundbreaking advancement in biotechnology. Gene therapy involves modifying or replacing defective genes within an individual’s cells to treat or prevent disease. This technology has immense potential in revolutionizing healthcare by offering a more precise and targeted approach to treating genetic disorders, cancers, and other diseases at the molecular level. What fascinates me most about gene therapy is its ability to address the root causes of diseases rather than merely managing symptoms. For individuals suffering from hereditary diseases like cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, or muscular dystrophy, gene therapy offers the hope of a permanent cure by correcting the faulty genes that cause these conditions. This could eliminate the need for lifelong treatments and drastically improve the quality of life for millions of people. Moreover, gene therapy has shown promise in treating cancers by modifying immune cells to better recognize and destroy cancer cells. Techniques like CAR-T cell therapy, which involves engineering a patient’s T-cells to attack cancer, have already demonstrated remarkable success in treating certain types of blood cancers. This is particularly inspiring because it opens the door for more personalized cancer treatments, offering patients tailored therapies based on their genetic makeup. While gene therapy is still in its early stages and faces challenges like high costs and ethical considerations, the potential benefits far outweigh these obstacles. As research advances, it is likely that gene therapy will become more accessible and widely used, transforming the landscape of medicine. The ability to cure genetic diseases and target cancer at its genetic core inspires me to believe in a future where technology and biology work together to reduce suffering and extend healthy lifespans, making the world a healthier place for all.
