Hi, I’m Riley I serve in the Army National Guard as an 09R while also pursuing Army ROTC and working toward a Military Aviation degree at Liberty University. I’m passionate about pushing myself whether that’s through my training, my academics, or in the gym, where I love weight lifting. Outside of school and service, I enjoy giving back to my community by volunteering at the local humane society. I’m committed to growing as a leader and continuing to serve both my country and the people around me.

Veterans Next Generation Scholarship
Growing up as the child of a Navy SEAL has shaped nearly every aspect of who I am how I see responsibility, how I approach adversity, and most importantly, what I aspire to do with my future. My father’s service, along with the long line of Navy veterans in my family, has shown me that serving one’s country is not just a career choice it is a commitment to something larger than oneself. From an early age I witnessed the pride, discipline and quiet strength that come with military service, and those qualities have guided my own goals.
Even though my dad wasn’t a pilot, some of my strongest memories come from listening to him describe what it was like to ride in helicopters and military aircraft during his service. The way he talked about those moments the intensity, the teamwork, the purpose behind every mission sparked something in me. Those stories made aviation feel real and alive, and they planted the idea that flying could be more than something I admired it could be something I pursued. Over the years, as I learned more about aviation and spent time around aircraft myself, that interest grew into a genuine passion.
As I explored military aviation further, I realized that flying could be my way of continuing my family’s legacy of service. I want to become a helicopter pilot because helicopters represent versatility, precision, and the ability to directly support soldiers on the ground. Whether transporting troops, conducting search and rescue missions, or providing urgent assistance in moments when seconds matter, helicopter pilots make an immediate impact. That kind of purpose driven work is exactly what I hope to dedicate my life to.
To take real steps toward that goal, I am currently majoring in aviation, gaining the technical knowledge and flight training that will prepare me for a future in military aviation. At the same time, I am a cadet in Army ROTC, where I am developing leadership skills, discipline, and the mindset required to serve effectively. I also enlisted in the Army National Guard as an 09R, which has given me early exposure to military life and strengthened my determination to earn a commission. These experiences both in the classroom and in uniform have already taught me what it means to work hard, stay committed, and live with purpose.
Being a veteran’s child has also shown me the reality of sacrifice. I’ve seen the long absences, the demanding work, and the weight of responsibility my father carried. But I’ve also seen the pride he feels knowing he served something greater than himself. That balance between sacrifice and purpose shaped my understanding of service and inspired me to follow a similar path with the same humility and drive.
My father’s service didn’t just influence my aspirations it helped define them. I want to honor the example he set, contribute to the tradition my family has built, and use my love of aviation to serve my country. Becoming a helicopter pilot isn’t just a dream it is the path that brings together my upbringing, my education, my experiences in ROTC and the National Guard, and my desire to make a meaningful difference.

From as early as I can remember, aviation has captured my imagination. While many people are drawn to aircraft for their speed, technology, or excitement, my passion for flying has always gone deeper. For me, aviation represents purpose, service, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. This passion first took shape when I read a book about the United States Coast Guard and their incredible missions rescuing people with helicopters. The stories of pilots flying into dangerous weather, pushing themselves and their aircraft to the limits, and risking their own safety to save others stayed with me. I realized then that flying a helicopter was not just an exciting career it was a calling. Ever since reading that book, my dream has been to become one of those pilots who can respond when others need help most. That dream has shaped every major decision I have made. I am now serving in the Army National Guard, where I have gained discipline, leadership skills, and exposure to the military aviation environment. My time in the Guard has strengthened my desire to pursue aviation professionally. It has shown me firsthand how essential helicopter pilots are to military operations, from medical evacuations to search and rescue missions. Being part of a team dedicated to serving others has only made me more determined to earn a pilot’s seat someday even though im only drilling in the guard right now I have learned about about how helicopters help the people in the field. At the same time I am also participating in ROTC which has given me additional opportunities to develop responsibility, commitment, and leadership qualities that every military aviator must have. Balancing both the National Guard and ROTC has not been easy especially while pursuing my education but it has taught me perseverance and time management. I am proud of the path I am on because each step brings me closer to the cockpit of a helicopter and to the mission I want to fulfill. And to help support my goal I am pursuing an aviation degree as well. Studying the science, mechanics, and principles behind flight has deepened my appreciation for the skill and discipline that aviation requires. Every class I take makes me more eager to start flying, not only because I enjoy aviation, but because I know what the end goal means the ability to save lives and serve my country in a role I have dreamed about for years. Flying a helicopter is more than a career goal for me. It is the culmination of a lifelong passion and a commitment to service that began the moment I learned what aviation could do for others. My dream is to become a military helicopter pilot who can make a difference in moments of crisis someone who can bring hope where it is needed most. This scholarship will help me continue on the path I have worked hard to follow, and it will bring me one step closer to fulfilling the dream that has driven me for so long.
