I am interested in going into the field of aviation because of the excitement and fun that comes with piloting as well as the fascinating physics behind it and feeling of control. When I was in the eighth grade, I took a flying lesson through a local airport. My parents gave me this opportunity to try something new and have fun as a Christmas present. I was nervous but very excited and from the second we took off I loved flying. It was a freeing feeling like you could let everything go and it was just you and the plane in the sky. I didn’t think of it as a career path until sophomore year of high school when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do. I thought about piloting as a career and went back to that day in my head and remembered the great feeling I had the first time flying. I knew it was what I wanted to do. Since then, I had done a few hours in highschool at the local airport introducing me to the art of flying. Another activity I did was an introduction to aviation flight camp at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University campus in Daytona. This week-long camp introduced me to the world of aviation and all the different fields I could go into. We took introduction classes, listened to lectures, and went in simulations to explore these different branches. My favorite was the flight simulator where we got to pilot the simulator plane and fly all over Daytona. It was a very eye opening week to the world of aviation. In the summer of 2022, I got a job at a local flight school, Alpha One, as a dispatcher. This allowed me to dive deeper into the field and make connections with fellow students, instructors, and management. This was a great opportunity for me to learn more about the industry especially as a different role in the process. I did lots of volunteering throughout my teen years. I volunteered at many different places in middle school as part of a volunteering club. My main volunteering came from being apart of the Center Stage Dance Academy Outreach Team from 2015-2021. Our mission was to bring the joy of dance to the community such as at community festivals and nursing homes. In 2020 I volunteered with the National Dance foundation to bring a similar mission to children with special needs. I intend to pursue the career of piloting. I would like to start out as an instructor teaching others as well and helping them reach their dreams of flying as well. Once I reach my hours, I would like to become a pilot for a commercial airline traveling and flying around the world. I do not have a specific airline or kind in mind. I would not mind if it was for people or for cargo. I believe it is all part of the journey figuring it out. Due to costs I was unable to obtain my private pilot license in highschool. I completed my first two years of college at Purdue University. This school was eye opening and had an amazing flight program. However, due to tuition and flight fee costs I could not afford to stay there. Student loans began to pile up and debt after college became a serious worry for me so I transferred to Bridgewater State University this past fall to continue my flight training. I would put this scholarship towards paying for those fees making it a bit easier to reach that goal faster.
