Bio

Being an athlete has always come easily to me but being a student has been anything but. Although I was diagnosed with dyslexia at a very young age, I am only just beginning to coexist with it and accept it. I have always felt as if I am two people. I am Rhys the athlete but I am also Rhys the dyslexic. I am finally no longer embarrassed to use technology to help me in class. This includes audiobooks, visual models and speech to text. It is only because I had the constant support of my family, and access to specialized education my entire life that I am now able to take the next big step in my life. I have chosen to attend the University of Arizona. The University of Arizona has a great reputation for supporting students with learning disabilities. By utilizing their support programs I hope to graduate with my bachelors degree in architecture with a specialization in urban planning. My dream is to use this specialization to design neighborhoods and communities that are environmentally friendly, accessible and supportive. I feel strongly that everyone should have a safe, clean and affordable place to live and learn. No one should feel excluded due to their disability, race, religion or background. I am especially interested in designing schools that are welcoming and supportive and inclusive for teachers and students. Everyone should have access to the latest technology to support all learning styles, differences and disabilities. I hope to use my profession to construct neighborhoods and communities that promote inclusiveness, kindness and acceptance.
