I'm from Michigan, and my name is Rhonda Griffin. One of my seven children is presently in paradise. My life's ambition is to finish my criminal justice bachelor's degree. My passion is criminal justice, and I enjoy watching CSI programs and investigating crimes. Despite losing my child, I went on to earn my associate's degree in paralegal science. Shortly after losing my sister, I made the decision to return to school in order to earn my bachelor's degree and to try to conceal my sadness. Despite my anguish over my mother's recent unfortunate death, I was still able to keep my GPA at 3.5. I try to persevere and never give up. At the moment, I work for a non-profit I love helping people because it makes me comfortable and at peace. In addition to helping others, my goal of working in the criminal justice system will enable me to investigate the minds of those with mental health disorders or solve crimes. In addition to helping others, my goal of working in the criminal justice system will enable me to investigate the minds of those with mental health disorders or solve crimes. I experienced depression as a result of everything. And I remain persistent and motivated. I think there should be more consideration given to the study of mental health in the context of criminal justice. Perhaps it will serve as a deterrent before a crime is committed. I believe I am a strong contender for scholarships, and I am almost done. With nine classes remaining, I've come this far, I will cross the finish line since there is nothing stopping me now.

Hello, I am Rhonda Griffin. I have seven kids. Being a single parent and raising my kids has been a wonderful experience. It taught me to be patient, to love others, and to never give up on your goals. It made me feel like I had to do everything because my kids were watching. After losing my daughter some time ago, I just lost Thomas, one of my boys who was recently killed to gun violence weeks ago. This experience changed my perspective on the world and showed me how cruel life can be.
You want justice immediately in our legal system, but you also need to comprehend the complex and dynamic interplay between social values and the law. My understanding of the world and the function of the legal system in society has greatly expanded as a result of learning how they affect one another and the possible difficulties that may arise. Humans are brutal, and justice will occasionally be done. You have to take a step back and rethink your life after you are on the other side of this force and it happens to you. There has been an increase in gun violence in the legal system, and some people do not receive the justice they are due.
More than ever, I want to work in the legal industry and assist others. I have to find a way to alter the criminal thinking prior to trying to commit a crime. In some way, I want to help criminals understand how their crimes impact other families' lives in addition to their own. There is no winner in this scenario!
I had to temporarily stop attending school in order to concentrate on his funeral and the events that had just transpired. With the death of this child, I now have five living children. In circumstances like this, mental health issues can frequently be quite challenging to overcome. Although I stopped in the middle of my semester, I finished the majority of my classes. I am happy to report that I have kept my GPA at 3.8 in spite of everything. I try to continue each day in order to stay on course.
Through all the legal issues, I learned how important it is to discuss mental health concerns with someone. It is not enough to try to fully immerse yourself in your work or learning environment. This could lead to depression or perhaps a mental collapse that ends in suicide. I'm in school for criminal justice, which is my passion, and I watch crime and law enforcement programs all the time. I adore it, but it's not the same when the story is about you. Because of this incident, I am even more motivated to help families solve murders, killings, and cold case situations.
Additionally, focusing on sentencing reform, especially by supporting alternatives to jail for nonviolent and low-level offenses, is one way to combat mass incarceration in the criminal justice system. Initiating or progressing a career in criminal justice can be greatly aided by these experiences. I really enjoy it, and I'm eager to learn more about the criminal justice system and assist in bringing victims and their families justice.
With the financial burden of my child and me trying to complete school this would be a blessing. Education is expensive, life today is expensive and I just want to complete my education and succeed in life. Making myself and my kids proud will be my goal as I cross the finish line.

One major issue affecting the criminal justice system now is mass incarceration, or the historically high rates of incarceration in the United States in comparison to other countries and historical periods. Although they comprise fewer than 5% of the global population, almost 25% of all prisoners globally reside in the United States. Mass incarceration has major racial, social, and economic consequences for individuals, families, and communities, and it disproportionately affects people of color. This system is also costly; prison maintenance costs at least $80 billion annually.
Additionally, focusing on sentencing reform, especially by supporting alternatives to jail for nonviolent and low-level offenses, is one way to combat mass incarceration in the criminal justice system.
With me being able to work in the field of criminal justice has given me priceless chances to advance both professionally and personally. I was able to network with professionals, acquire useful experience, hone critical skills, and investigate different career options in the field.
But whether I can finish school or not, being a single parent has undoubtedly made me a strong woman and mother. Making myself and my kids proud will be my goal as I cross the finish line.

Being in excellent mental health is essential for success in the workplace and school. If not, some problems must be resolved; if one is in pain, one cannot assist others. It entails having the capacity to listen to others' hardships, being resilient, raising things to a certain degree without getting personal, and consistently upholding standards and boundaries. Therefore, maintaining professional mental fitness entails viewing the world objectively, avoiding being swayed by the demands and issues of others, exhibiting competence and honesty, and never bringing up your personal issues with those of others.
Additionally, it alters behavior, which affects how coworkers relate to one another. This can result in miscommunications, disputes, and subpar teamwork, which can hinder career advancement and possibly limit opportunities.
I think you should never quit up, even if you feel like you're overwhelmed. Seek help immediately and follow your life's passions. My relationship with God has been really helpful in this, and I pray that I will be able to complete my degree. I have nine semesters left before I complete. I shall go on for the sake of my two lost children. I'm going to allow my recently deceased child to continue cheering from heaven since he inspired me to be the best mom I can be and to live my life without regret. With the financial burden of my child and me trying to complete school this would be a blessing. Students' college experience may be enhanced by having more time for leadership opportunities, extracurricular activities, and personal growth. I believe in giving back to the community and my degree is one way that i will be giving back. This will help others that have loss a child as well or even family members due to violence.

Charles Cheesman's Student Debt Reduction Scholarship
As a single mother, I've come a long
way. Despite being homeless, in an abusive relationship, and raising my kids
alone, I tried. I recall going to school the way I did after losing my daughter
and coping with her passing. I wanted to give up at times because I was so
hurt, but I persisted.
Every day, regardless of how I was feeling at the time, I boarded the bus in the snow to get to school. My pupils said they had witnessed my tenacity and determination. In 2014, I obtained my associate's degree. Shortly after my sister passed, I would not go to school
for a long time after losing my sister, but my mother told me that quitting was
not an option, and I came too far to give up.
I keep smiling and enduring adversity when I see my children and grandchildren.
being conscious that I had shown them the value of tenacity. Although my mother
passed away not too long ago, she was quite proud of me for obtaining my first
degree and graduating.
Out of her seven children, I was the first to graduate or even attend
college. I persevere, work hard, and push myself. Since my mom just passed away,
she won't be able to witness this last degree. Despite my hurt, I know I prevail.
Since there are so many reasons to keep going, I don't think giving up is an
option. There was so much going on and life felt hard.
Being able to receive this scholarship, I will be able to have financial stability and reduce my overall stress levels, which will allow me to focus on my personal development and boost my confidence because mental health is a significant aspect in studying. Being awarded this
scholarship would motivate me to work toward my goals and succeed academically
by increasing my confidence and sense of self-worth, which go a long way in life
when you are happy with who you are.
After losing my child, I struggled with depression on my own. I was drinking excessively and losing myself, so I didn't realize I was depressed, but others saw it in me and suggested that I
get support. I got through this challenge and came to the realization that
there are a lot of criminals and people with mental illnesses, no matter how
slight, in the world. Instead of simply throwing the key at someone, I want to
spread awareness about mental health concerns as someone who aspires to work in
the criminal justice system. I wish to conduct additional research on the minds
of criminals.
There are non-profit organizations, and I work for one of them right now. I'm honored to have assisted numerous
people with their financial aid, bills, careers, lives, homelessness, and a
host of other issues. However, the amount of action that may be taken is
limited.
I intend to get my degree in criminal justice which will assist future
disparities and assist even with mental health of criminals. By giving me this
scholarship from Charles Cheesman's Student Debt Reduction, it would essentially
serve as a stimulant for my academic achievements and professional goals,
giving me the concentration and financial security I need to succeed in my line
of work. I appreciate that I have the chance to apply for this award. For me,
this has a lot of significance. After putting in a lot of effort, I'm thrilled
to receive my criminal justice degree in 2026. My ability to go through this
stage with fewer burdens paves the way for my future success.
