Rhoda Fadugbagbe

Bio

Hi, my name is Rhoda, and I am a driven and passionate individual planning to pursue Biological Sciences or Biomedical Engineering. I’ve always had a passion for medicine since I was a little child, because I have always envisioned myself helping my community and people all over the world. My parents kindled my love for medicine and my education by allowing me to attend a predominantly POC middle school in Manhattan that helped shape my skills later on in life. I eventually applied to boarding schools across the East Coast, and I recently graduated from an all-girls boarding school in Wellesley, Massachusetts, Dana Hall School, where I maintained a 90% GPA while playing two varsity-level sports (Volleyball and Basketball) and JV Lacrosse. I became extremely dedicated to the sports I pursued, eventually making the Varsity teams of 2 out of the 3 sports I play. I currently live in Long Island with my parents and four siblings, as my older brothers currently attend colleges along the East Coast, my little sister attends a boarding school in Connecticut, and my little brother attends a private middle school in Times Square. Education has always been a large priority within my Christian Nigerian household; they have taught me to be educated, determined, social, and kind in all aspects of my life. I will continue to use my skills as I will attend George Washington University in the fall as a freshman, on track to graduate in the Spring of 2029. I'm dedicated to using my bubbly and kind personality to succeed within the many communities I partake in.

    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
How can a math teacher relate end behavior to John Travolta? I had the same question during my Algebra 2 class with Ms. Palmer this past school year. As we explored graphing polynomial functions, I struggled with the complexities until Ms. Palmer found a creative way to explain this concept to my class. John Travolta’s famous dance moves of his arms in alternate directions looked very similar to the end behavior of odd degrees. This unconversational way to explain this complicated topic allowed me to grasp the idea fully. Difficult math frustrated me because I valued accuracy in my work. However, this didn’t deter me, I persevered through a tough course. Throughout my academic career, I’ve always been passionate about Science and Math, but Math had a different place in my heart, especially when I grasped the topic fully and could help others with math. Throughout elementary school, middle school, and now high school, I’ve loved attending math class and learning unique ways to find the same solution. The spark for math diminished throughout high school because Math became a burden in my life but Ms. Palmer's creativity re-sparked my passion for Math. Math wasn’t just a bunch of numbers but deciphering and solving problems opened a different space in my mind. The ability to graph, determine unknowns, and work with imaginary numbers fueled my curiosity and passion for an area of study.
