Growing up helping my community by doing community service every weekend; at first, I did not quite understand why I and my parents had to get up so early to help others around me, but one situation made turn my opinion around. I saw a girl who was approximately 8 years old and I was 10 years old; she never knew what were the "Bratz dolls" and she just so amazed at how the dolls looked because they were beautiful to her. So what I initially did was gave her some of my Bratz dolls for her to play with and when her parents saw how happy and cheerful their daughter was because her family could not afford the dolls and it brought tears to their eyes. Seeing what I did at 10 years old made me realize that helping my community and others makes a difference. So since that time, I have always been a part of helping my community such as joining organizations, participating in walks, and food drives, donating clothes to local shelters, giving food to others, and even just sitting and talking to them and see on how they ended where they are now. Another point was at my job when I saw a young man outside of my job asking for assistance such as money and food because he was not able to afford it; so what I would do while at work was purchase food for him for the day and talk to him to make sure he was okay. Unfortunately, the young man stop coming by my job because I was informed that he was later shot and killed and that broke my heart. Seeing a young man who is trying to get his life together and tragically his life was taken from him is one of the reasons why I stand strong in trying to help my community because we deserve a better life and become the FUTURE of our community. I also like to see the smiles on others' faces whom I made proud not just of my family but other families dealing with loved ones in the hospital. I know this will keep me motivated because my mother always told me, “You have beaten a disease that no one can overcome, and you are here to tell your story and show them that anything is possible.” I should be considered for this scholarship because I never give up on my dreams ever since being in school. I may have gotten knocked down, but I always manage to pull myself back together to move closer to my dream. I dealt with cancer while in school, but it was too much at the time and after being in remission I got back on my feet like I never left to finish my studies. It was also challenging with finances while working as a part-time student with only limited financial aid assistance, but without it, I would not be where I am now, and I am not ready to stop due to financial issues. Furthermore, I aspire and goals in completing of the health info management program and receiving my Bachelor of Science in Health Info Management. I plan to begin to work full time and gain the knowledge and learn from the experience within the settings whether it’s with the Health Administration side. It would be an honor to be considered for this scholarship to complete my last semester of school and graduate in May of 2023.

Helping my community has always been a priority for me as an adult and even when I was a little girl. Growing up helping my community by doing community service every weekend; at first, I did not quite understand why I and my parents had to get up so early to help others around me, but one situation made turn my opinion around. I saw a girl who was approximately 8 years old and I was 10 years old; she never knew what were the "Bratz dolls" and she just so amazed at how the dolls looked because they were beautiful to her. So what I initially did was gave her some of my Bratz dolls for her to play with and when her parents saw how happy and cheerful their daughter was because her family could not afford the dolls and it brought tears to their eyes. Seeing what I did at 10 years old made me realize that helping my community and others makes a difference. So since that time, I have always been a part of helping my community such as joining organizations, participating in walks, and food drives, donating clothes to local shelters, giving food to others, and even just sitting and talking to them and see on how they ended where they are now. Another point was at my job when I saw a young man outside of my job asking for assistance such as money and food because he was not able to afford it; so what I would do while at work was purchase food for him for the day and talk to him to make sure he was okay. Unfortunately, the young man stop coming by my job because I was informed that he was later shot and killed and that broke my heart. Seeing a young man who is trying to get his life together and tragically his life was taken from him is one of the reasons why I stand strong in trying to help my community because we deserve a better life and become the FUTURE of our community. I take the saying "it takes a village to raise a child" and that also means it takes a village to help serve the community as well because we are ALL we got and we have to stay strong and help each other through these difficult times. I am a woman who sees people strive for greatness and prosper through all bad times to come

In 2015, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney cancer, and it put me in a bad place because I would ask myself every day, “How did I get cancer?” “What did I do wrong?” As of now, I am cancer free for over six years now and am blessed that I can continue my journey toward my bachelor’s degree. I choose this profession because I love spending my hours on my feet helping and learning new things when it comes to science.
