My name is Resha Pinto, I have been passionate about becoming a nurse for years and haven't had the chance to pursue until I got accepted into the Nursing Program. My life goal was actually to finish college with a degree as an RN. I became a CNA in the year of 2011 and still pushing myself to make that goal happen for me and my family. I love what I do and just getting to know the culture around me and the people I meet.

My name is Resha Pinto, I am from Farmington, NM. I am a mother to 3 wonderful children that look up to me and a wonderful significant other. Honestly I can tell you that my experience in the medical field found me in 2011. After high school, I was undecided in my career choice and became a mother at the age of 20. Until one day, I applied at Life Care of Farmington and found myself helping my beloved elderly residents who depended on me to care for them. Then later in time I got to experienced different Facilities in the Farmington, NM area. I wanted to continue to explore other places and get more experience, so I re-located to Albuquerque, NM and I worked for Princeton Place in 2012 and in little time as a CNA, I ended up getting promoted to become a Restorative Nursing Assistant. I continued to learn and work more with speech therapist, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. I became passionate in learning so much and I was still undecided in career choice. I kept going forward to see where my destiny in career was going to lead me. I continued my day to day life in the field, until one day, I was promoted to become a Certified Medication Aide. I was pretty much shocked, but I accepted the promotion and completed my training. I was so fascinated by continuing to learn more and then on I received my Certification of Medication Aide in 2016. I thought my career as a Medication Aide was my permanent career in choice because I have been working in this position for about 9 years and I am still here today holding my position as Medication Aide. When I re-located back home in 2017 , I started a new job in Bloomfield, NM and San Juan Center of Farmington as a Certified Medication Aide. I loved it. I was proud of myself and then when I left the facilities, I returned back to my beloved Life Care of Farmington as a Medication Aide. I did not want my chapter to end as a Medication Aide because I knew my career was not complete so I made a decision to become a Nurse. Why? Because it was my passion to help my lovely residents who needs me to stand with them to care, love, and be a family to them with my experience. My fellow staff members also commented me to become a nurse as well because of the caring I give to our residents here at Life Care of Farmington. As of June 24, 2025 I received an acceptance letter from Pueblo Community College for the Nursing Program and was gladly accepted. So, therefore my Chapter is just beginning. I prepared myself for this moment for a very long time. Now I am ready to take this Journey. I know my Nursing will take me to so many opportunities and not just working with the elderly, but also with young adults, middle age adults, and children as well. I have been waiting for this moment because of all the experiences I have had from Nursing facilities, special care, acute care, and etc. I have really worked hard to get this far and will continue to keep going and I know my experience will be a positive impact to my community because of the great care I can give them and in the future.

Little Miami Brewing Native American Scholarship Award
My name is Resha Pinto and I am from Farmington, NM. I live close to the Navajo Nation and I am part of the Navajo Nation Community. My experience as a Native American intrigues me in some ways, but not to the fullest. As growing up as a little Navajo girl, language was one of the toughest language to speak. My people, meaning the surrounding of other non-related Navajos would criticized me, because I could not speak my language. It was a really tough life to live while growing up not speaking the Navajo language.
Being a Native American (Navajo) seemed like we had to be perfect and have so much pride in who we are and in what we do. However, in reality, I didn't want to be a prideful individual to hold an ambition to be part of the Navajo Nation and to speak my language. I felt like being a Native American (Navajo) was just trouble and endangering for me and my family, because the world today has so much hate against each other and chaos among each other for little things that are not acceptable.
Even though being a Native American (Navajo) may have an affect on others because of not speaking our language shouldn't have to change our own individual ways because, my background doesn't change, my heritage doesn't change, and my culture doesn't change. They may continue to treat me like I am not one of them, but what can I do. Nothing. Sometimes I feel like I am not part of my fellow Native American people. In their eyes, I am another color to them, but it doesn't affect me. I am happy for who I am.
Just because language is so important in my culture, I had to at least learn to speak it. The reason why is because I work in the medical field and a lot of Navajo people come through our facility and stay there and most of the people are fluently Navajo speakers. It has been a challenge but I am getting by with basic words and also using interpreters. I have taken Navajo speaking classes as well to help me in the near future. It has been tough and fun at the same time. I am really grateful that I have met people within my tribe helping me to speak our language because they understand that I only grew up learning English.
My parents are both not fluent speakers of the Navajo language but only English. It has been a tough life and experience because realizing what I had gone through as being a Native American (Navajo), language is the most important value to our culture. That is why my people are trying to let me know how much we should value our language when we don't learn it. So I am here today to say that I am proud to experience my culture in the Navajo language as being the most important treasure to have as a Native American and sharing how language has had a big impact in my life.

I have really worked hard to get this far and will continue to keep going.
Wieland Nurse Appreciation Scholarship
My name is Resha Pinto and I live in Farmington, NM. I decided to pursue a career in nursing because of all the nurses that I have worked with throughout my years as being a CNA/CMA. They have encouraged me to continue with my education and pursue a Nursing Degree. They all complimented that one day I will become a great nurse because of my experience in taking care of my patients. I never thought of myself to become a Nurse. I love my job and I love working with my patients. I always make the effort to help my patients and my staff members. My patients don't have their families with them 24/7 to help them with daily active lives and I love to be their family in their home.
As I worked throughout my years as a CNA/CMA, I have learned so much and experienced in different fields in different facilities, hospitals, rehab centers, and etc., and it has led me to this moment to pursue in Nursing. I became more passionate in my career, until I met an extraordinary Nurse name Geneva who was an LPN and became an RN. She was the one Nurse who always encouraged me that I should apply for the LPN program, because of all the experience that I have. I realized that even though she encouraged me, I was timid about it, until I became fascinated with the care she was giving to our patients. She always worked so hard and she is always prepared in the beginning of every shift. She always greets her fellow staff members and greets the first patient that is up at 6 am in the morning and offers them coffee with a snack. It really touched me and that made me realize that I made a decision to make that happen and follow in the steps of my fellow co-worker.
The more she encouraged me, I decided to apply to the LPN program. It wasn't hard for me to make that decision, because I knew it was time to start another chapter in life and to make difference for my patients and for me.
As of June 25, 2025, I received an email with the acceptance of getting into the LPN program. I have been more excited than ever, because honestly I never thought I would be accepted, but I did and that's why I am here applying for scholarships to help me pay for my tuition and books. I am so happy that my Nurse Geneva encouraged me to take the opportunity to take the next step of my life.
Thank you, Geneva
Geneva the Nurse that encouraged me to apply for the Nursing program sent me this scholarship through bold.org.
