    Dental Hygiene Basics Scholarship
My path to dental hygiene began in an unexpected way, while working as a veterinary technician. I spent my days performing dental cleanings on dogs and cats under anesthesia, carefully scaling tiny teeth and realizing how oral care could change an animal’s health and comfort almost overnight. It fascinated me that something so small could make such a big difference. That’s when I began to imagine doing the same kind of work for people. helping them feel confident, healthy, and cared for through their smiles. Now, as a full-time Dental Hygiene student at Bristol Community College, that spark has grown into a deep passion. I want to be the kind of hygienist patients trust, the one they can turn to with questions, fears, and goals. I want to be an ally to dentists and a bridge between patients and providers, helping every person I meet feel seen, heard, and supported. My dream is to continue growing in this field, eventually working in sleep health or pediatrics, where prevention and compassion can have lifelong impacts. And someday, I hope to teach and to give back to the profession that has completely changed my life. This journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been meaningful. As a single mom, I’ve learned how to balance textbooks, clinic hours, and bedtime stories, all while trying to give my best to everything I do. I’ve taken every available federal loan to stay in school, and while I am proud of my perseverance, there are days when the financial strain feels heavy. I can do a lot but I can’t do it all and do it all well and for that reason, I’m not currently working while in my program. My focus is on becoming the best clinician and role model I can be for both my future patients and my daughter. Outside of school, I stay connected to what matters most: community. I’m a Girl Scout leader and serve on several town committees and commissions, as well as with the Historical Society. Giving back, whether through mentoring young girls or helping preserve local history, reminds me why I chose this path in the first place: to help others grow, feel confident, and take pride in where they come from. Financial preparedness is essential to achieving my educational and professional goals, but scholarships like this one mean more than financial support. They represent hope, belief, and opportunity. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue focusing fully on my studies and clinical experience while supporting my family and community. It would be a step toward the future I’ve worked so hard for: one where I can help others smile brighter, breathe easier, and live healthier lives, one patient at a time.
