Hey, I’m Regan. I’m 28 and from a rural town in Texas with a population of about 4,000. I lived in the country the first 24 years of my life but the past 4 I’ve been in the middle of town and realize how many times I hear and / or see reminds me of how many people out there need saving but there aren’t enough people willing to do the saving. There is a huge shortage in Texas for EMT’s and luckily for me, that’s exactly what I want to be doing! I have a background in hospital work and have been into cath lab and labo and delivery for starting IV lines or getting blood. My main job was to be ER available and to respond to all emergency codes in the hospital to offer assistance with IV,s and blood draws as previously mentioned. Under my belt I also hold one year of patient care technician experience in the Emergency room. During that time I had hands on experience with initial checks, obtaining medical history, current medications, vitals, and EKG’s. I think the patient care technician gave me a lot of experience and some good insight on what a little bit of being an EMT entails. Interactions between hospital staff and EMS are so common that I do have a great understanding of what they do and all of it is appealing to me. This scholarship would give me the ability to further my education from an ER and ICU phlebotomist to what my real dream is - to become an emt and then work towards being a paramedic in the future. I am a single mother of two boys and am unfortunately low income and don’t have money left over for furthering my career. This scholarship would give me the ability to become an EMT which would not only fulfill my dreams but also help me make a better life for us. My reasoning for wanting to become an EMT is to help and be there for people in their most distressing moments. I have a soothing personality but I am also able to get my job done while also comforting patients. I thrive in a fast paced environment and love being hands on apart of a life saving team. With this scholarship money I would be able to fully pay for either of the 3 courses I am looking into. I am extremely confident that I would make a great EMT. My biggest hope is to make positive change in this world and In my eyes, this is my pathway to it. I hope this essay or more of my babble gives you some insight into who I am and the drive and passion I have to make a difference. I appreciate your offer to help make a difference in not just one persons life but many more than you will know.
