Tawkify Meaningful Connections Scholarship
One of the most meaningful relationships in my life is with my mother. I had grown up really close to her. When I was younger, she stayed home with me for a while. She always had crafts for us to do, movies for us to watch, and new places for us to visit. Every day, I looked forward to whatever activity she had planned. Then, as I grew older, she went back to work, and I went to school. Although we didn't get the chance to do those fun activities together every day anymore, she always made time to spend with me. We would cook and bake together, we would go on hikes, and go to lunches to try different types of foods we've never had before. She introduced me to certain books and sparked my passion for reading from such a young age. She influenced me in the best way possible. I began to realize how much she does for me and how I hope I could one day be even half the woman she is. My mother is the most empathetic, understanding, and intelligent person in my life. She has taught me to always advocate for what I believe is right and to never back away from something I am passionate about. She had taught me that everyone is going through something, whether it be just a bad day or a bad year. To always be kind and always try to understand before judging or giving an opinion. She showed me that everyone needs somebody, whether it's someone to bounce decisions off of or just someone to lean on for a while. My mother has always been someone I can go to about anything. If I need to cry, rant, or ask for an opinion, she is there. There has never been a time when I haven't had my mother to turn back to. I am more than lucky to have this relationship with her and am forever grateful for the impact she has had on my life. This relationship has influenced the connections I build with others in a significant way. I have learned how to be a good friend and how to properly listen and be there for someone. The relationship taught me how to approach certain situations, how to admit my wrongs and properly apologize, and how to forgive and understand that people make mistakes. I have learned that having support, a little or a lot, can push you to become a better version of yourself. I have become a passionate, educated, and sympathetic young woman because of the influence of my mother. She has taught me to become the best version of myself. I hope to make her more than proud, and I hope everyone has someone in their life with the same influence my mother has on me. I plan to grow and continue on this path, building strong connections with others and spreading kindness to those who need it and those who don't.
Big Picture Scholarship
I believe that the 2025 Superman movie has had the greatest impact on my life. This movie instills hope into whoever watches it. This movie is filled with compassionate, intelligent, and hopeful characters who make you feel connected to it. Superman's character allows people to see a brighter side and encourages people to act with kindness. He allows people to have a hope for the better and to be better. It helps spread the message that your physical and biological features don't make you human, but your empathy does. I not only feel this movie has impacted me the most, but others as well. This movie pushes the message that compassion and empathy are not weaknesses but strengths. It suggests that even in a cruel world, spread kindness, spread love. This movie impacted me the most at that point in my life because I feel we only see the bad in the world over the good. News channels and online websites tend to cover or spread hateful stories and beliefs. I have witnessed many people losing compassion for others just because they see things differently. People's morals have shifted, and public behaviors have changed. It has become more acceptable to spread derogatory beliefs. People are divided over hate and bigotry. Although this has always been an issue in the world, it has become more noticeable for me and my generation. It feels as though there is a divide amongst everyone. When Superman came out, it spread a different kind of message, one that people weren't so used to seeing. Lots of people had seen it as "controversial" because of the fact that sympathy was portrayed as the strength that it is. After this movie came out, and in the months that followed, there was a shift in the media. I began to see more positivity among teenagers and young adults. I began to see more empathy in my classmates and coworkers. I even began to see more empathy in myself. It hurts no one to spread kindness, but it helps millions. I am grateful to have experienced this movie and the change it has caused. I hope for more movies, media, and literature to spread the same messages Superman does. I love this movie, and I know I always will. I truly believe this movie has had one of the strongest impacts on my generation, and I am lucky to have witnessed it firsthand.
