My name is Reed Hill, and I have had an itch for aviation throughout my entire high school career. The thrill of flight and the idea of soaring through the skies have always been fascinating to me. This passion led me to set my sights on becoming a pilot in the Air Force, where I could combine my love for aviation with my desire to serve my country. However, life threw me an unexpected curveball when some health concerns put my plans on hold. Initially, I was all set to go active duty in the Air Force immediately after high school graduation. I had completed all the necessary preparations and was eager to start my journey. Unfortunately, these health issues meant that I would need to wait an additional six months before I could even have a chance at going active duty. This delay forced me to reconsider my immediate future and make some significant changes to my plans. I will graduate at the beginning of June 2024, and rather than heading straight into the Air Force, I will start college at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the Fall of 2024. This sudden shift in my plans has presented both challenges and opportunities. While I had not initially planned on attending college before serving, I now see it as an invaluable opportunity to further my education and prepare myself even better for my future career. One of the immediate challenges I face is the financial aspect of attending college. Since I had planned on the GI Bill covering my tuition, I now find myself in a position where I need to secure funding for my education. I realize that I am quite late in applying for scholarships since I had no initial interest in going to college before serving. The time crunch is real, and I need to act quickly to apply for and receive as many scholarships as possible to ensure that I can afford my tuition and other expenses. Despite this setback, I am determined to make the most of this opportunity. My passion for aviation and my goal of becoming a pilot in the Air Force remain steadfast. Studying atmospheric sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manoa will provide me with a solid foundation in understanding the environment in which aircraft operate. This knowledge will be crucial for my future career as a pilot, as it will help me make informed decisions during flight and ensure safety.

    “Stranger Things” Fanatic Scholarship
If I had a team of three characters from the TV show Stranger Things to battle a new supernatural entity, I would choose Eleven, Hopper, and Dustin. Each character offers distinct tactical advantages and skills that would help to defeat a new enemy. Eleven: Eleven’s telekinetic and telepathic powers would be a valuable resource in any supernatural battle. She has already proven her strength against the Demogorgon and the Mind Flayer. She can levitate objects with her mind, enter the Upside Down, and even seal the gateway to this alternate dimension. This makes her our main firepower as well as our strongest defense. Additionally, her intimate knowledge of the supernatural world gives her critical insight into the enemy we face. Eleven’s tough, driven personality, the result of a lifetime of harsh experiences, makes her even more invaluable. Hopper: Hopper is the second indispensable team member because of his vast experience against human and supernatural enemies. A former military man and current law enforcement officer, Hopper possesses the experience, tactical training, and leadership abilities to help us succeed. His courage and selflessness in protecting his loved ones shine throughout the show. A cool head in crisis, Hopper’s leadership and decision-making skills allow him to perform under extreme pressure. Furthermore, Hopper’s strong sense of morality and natural instinct to protect others will keep our team disciplined in the mission at hand and focused on preserving innocent lives. Dustin: Dustin's brilliant mind and creative energy complete the trio of Eleven and Hopper. His insatiable curiosity in science and technology allows him to concoct creative solutions to intricate problems. Dustin’s experience with Dungeons & Dragons has even given him the aptitude to draw useful metaphors and strategies for battling the supernatural. His light-hearted, positive attitude keeps team moral high, while his versatility and improvisational skills can be the difference between victory and defeat. For instance, he was able to construct “Cerebro,” a potent radio transmitter, on short notice and under pressure. Dustin’s well-rounded skills make him an invaluable asset to the team. Finally, the dynamic of the team is perfectly composed in Eleven, Hopper, and Dustin. Eleven’s supernatural might gives the team the firepower to combat otherworldly entities, Hopper’s martial abilities and leadership skill make our strategy and tactics sharp, and Dustin’s creativity and scientific aptitude lend the group inventive solutions to complex dilemmas. These three work together as a single unit; raw strength backed by wise strategy and brilliant intellect. In sum, a team composed of Eleven, Chief Jim Hopper, and Dustin Henderson exploits the distinct talents of each member while maintaining balance within the group. They are the optimal three characters to face whatever supernatural enemy Stranger Things throws our way.

This sudden shift in my plans has presented both challenges and opportunities. While I had not initially planned on attending college before serving, I now see it as an invaluable opportunity to further my education and prepare myself even better for my future career. One of the activities I enjoyed the most while I was in Highschool was playing for my school's pep band. Our school has a massive stage in our gym and the feeling of walking out onto the stage with my Ibanez JBBM30 is unmatched. The adrenaline rush when playing was a surreal feeling and I will occasionally get that same feeling when playing some of my favorite songs at home. This small little band that we formed at school brought me closer to my classmates and showed that we all have a special talent that is hiding and that talent needs an outlet. I will definitely miss the feeling of shredding that guitar on that stage, but I will continue to play to remind me of the rush when playing on stage.
