Patricia Lea Olson Creative Writing Scholarship
I'm studying creative writing because I have a self-published book with over 26.2 thousand readers, growing every day. There is also a cumulative amount of 50,000 views across social media platforms. One day, I hope to become a true author with a bestseller and multiple published stories. I would love to speak publicly and help others on their journeys to become authors. I want to show everyone that no matter where you come from, who you are, who you were; you too can become something great. Dreams can be achieved, they can come true. I have loved writing for as long as I can remember and it's always been my number one escape away from the world. I go to my stories to tune out the surrounding issues and hardships I've had to overcome; including depression, anxiety, and many other mental health disorders. My family has never been financially stable, yet the only school that truly offers the program I need is way too expensive for us. Therefore, I will be paying most of my loans as my parents cannot afford to. I hope to one day achieve a financial stability in order to support my family. I want to affect people through writing by showing them that there is a world beyond life--a world where anyone can be anything, where stories come to life, where dreams can be lived through books. I want people to come to love reading, to find themselves in a state of happiness that stems from their books. If there is one thing I've learned from writing, it's that everyone needs an escape. Everyone needs to see different realities, to believe in the stories they read. Writing is not only about the stories you create, but about how people feel through them. The way that words can come together to form an alternate dream world; it's better than amazing. I would go as far as to say stories are one of the most important things in life. The ability to not only learn, but to experience greatness from books. Writing is everything to me, it's my true persona. To share with the world my stories and my own fantasies is mind-blowing to me. I want people to see and hear the differences that story-telling can create. In fact, I want to learn how to write enticing stories, how to create for the people. My main goal in life is to become the writer who overcame the hardships that too many people face today. Too many people are dealing with things that feel harder than what they feel they can deal with. But that's not their life, that isn't who they are. Everyone can become something beyond what their biggest dreams were, and stories are the way to show that. Everyone has a story, I just want them to know theirs isn't over and can be as great as the books they read. Thankyou!
