Going to college has always been something that I could only dream about and next year I am making it into reality. I plan to study Biology at the University of California Riverside. With a biology degree, I plan to apply for medical school. When I match into medical school, I want to study Anesthesiology and get a job at a children's hospital as an Anesthesiologist. As an anesthesiologist, I would be able to guide various families through the hardships of their loved ones. I would be able to make people more comfortable throughout their stay at the hospital. I would also be able to inform and teach the children as well as their parents the procedure and steps I am going to take to make their hospital the most comfortable I can. Another thing I can do with my college education to help my community is to advocate for my patients if I see that they are uncomfortable or unsure of a certain procedure being done on them. As said before I could also inform my community on how important it is to take care of yourself physically as well as mentally as these mental struggles can make your health decline even if we don't believe it.

As a female Mexican-American I was always put under a set of expectations and have always been seen as less intelligent than by twin brother. I was never expected to go to college and want to strive to go to medical school because I come from a low income household. I was inspired to go into medical school by an article I had read which listed out the statistics comparing how many men there were in the anesthesiology field compared to women. The statistics for latina or hispanic females were discouraging. I was never expected to want to go into such a competitive field of study. I was also inspired by my parents as well as my grandparents as they have sacrificed so much for me and my siblings. They have always been my number one inspiration. My dad works as a gardener under the hot sun to provide for us and pay the bills and I will forever be grateful for him. My mom works an underpaid purchasing job. She also works long ours to be able to buy us what we want and need for school and personal utilities. My grandparents are getting older but they are still working jobs with long hours to be able to retire comfortably. The thought that I could have job that would help provide for them pushes me to work myself to my fullest potential so I can make it to reality. When I become an anesthesiologist I could hopefully inspire other little girls in my hispanic community that anything is possible when we put our minds to it. I would be able to advocate for my community in the medical field as I have heard many stories of mistreatment in hospitals or hispanics being turned away because of the lack of medical insurance. This is a disgusting situation to hear about and I hope that going into the medical field will allow me to advocate for these latinos and hispanics being turned away by medical professionals. I would also be able to inform my community on ways they can advocate for themselves when they need medical treatment. Hispanics and latinos are not appreciated enough in the medical field and I can only hope that going into the medical field would allow me to break these racist and machista views society has on hispanic women. I know acknowledge that the first step towards my goal is to go to college but J still need some help in paying for college as I am all on my own to guide myself through the transition of college. Again my goal when going into the medical field is to show other latino and hispanic girls that we can do whatever we want when we put our minds to it and as my dad says “cuando le hechas ganas”.
