I have been interested in criminal justice ever since I was a little girl. Our family movie night usually included a true crime documentary, or something of the sort. I also grew up with those around me in and out of the system, mostly children, and I saw changes that I would love to try and make to bring justice of those deserving. Most people are raised to think that justice system fails and I aim to try and fix that ideology. I have seen families steer clear of the system when it would undoubtedly benefit them and their children and watch as they convince those around them that the system is bad. Unfortunately, my distant family members have fallen victim to this ideology and I continue to watch their children suffer and steer in the same direction of their parents. When I get my degree, I plan on going to law school and specializing in Family Court and/or criminal prosecution. I know that the justice system is largely male-dominated, but that isn’t some thing that worries me as I’m not one to back down from a challenge. I have been an athlete my entire life and challenges are what motivate me to try my hardest. My criminal justice teacher in high school completely changed my life and I aim to follow in her footsteps. During my four years of high school, she begged me to pursue a career as a lawyer but I wasn’t sure it was the route I wanted to take. Now that I am about to graduate college two years early with a bachelors degree in criminal justice and criminology, I cannot think of another career that is meant for me. My professors in college have also told me that law is a perfect fit as I tend to stick to facts rather than opinions. I have always been extremely hardworking and saw the changes I wanted to make within the system. Helping those in my community has always been a passion of mine and I always strive to put others first. I also enjoy informing those around me of the facts of the justice system rather than what you read online or in the paper. I am paying for my education on my own, and I plan to use all of my scholarships to the greatest of my ability to ensure both the community and the owners of the scholarship are benefited in the most educational and life changing ways.
