Depression can creep up on you at any moment. It's like a shadow, lurking behind you until its directly in front of you. Therefore, I think that creating free mental health help stations in suburban areas would benefit a lot of people. The stations can have buttons in little telephone booths to call suicide hotlines. Stress relief and fidget toys can be free and accessible to the public for unexpected anxiety. For panic attacks, there can be a seat in the phone booth with a weighted blanket and a soft place to wait out the panic attack. Through implementation of these mental health booths I think that people will feel as though there is help readily available in a physical format close to where they live.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
I was the only person to get a 100% all four quarters of precalculus in my class. It was something to be proud of, but I was happier with what my attitude towards precalculus had become. To me, math is just a puzzle that needs to be solved. There are rules that need to be followed. There are pre-set methods. It is all a systematic game, and I am capable of winning. To me, math is a true reflection on the ability of the solver to critically think and draw on everything they know in order to beat this one 'level'. Some levels are harder than others, depending on the unique way your brain thinks. I did not find either of my algebra courses 'fun', but I truly enjoyed myself in geometry and precalculus. The feeling when a concept clicks, when you realize you’ve gained an advantage in this level, is unmatched. Because of math's need for unique brainpower, I have found that playing this twisted game with like-minded friends makes the experience all that more enjoyable. Being on a late night FaceTime call with friends can be the push you need as an individual to beat that one 'boss' who may feel impossible to you. And once I understand a concept, sitting at my counter, blasting my music through my headphones, feeling like I'm on top of the world, is one of my favorite feelings that I have math to thank for. I find comfort in the numbers, and as of recent years, a few letters and symbols. They remind me what I am capable of, and that as long as I sit down and really try, I will beat this game. Math has shown me that with dedication, persistence, and some good music, I can solve any problem, in or outside of school, and that it's a game I'll never stop playing.
