Bio

Joel, born in Oklahoma City in February 1988, has a diverse heritage, with Cherokee/Dakota Native and various European backgrounds. Adopted at birth, he moved to California shortly after. After surviving open heart surgery at age two, Joel developed a deep passion for music and the arts. His father, a mentor, took him to jazz and blues concerts, while his mother taught him about health and life. Joel also learned to fly from his grandfather and about manhood from his godfather. Despite facing chronic health issues, Joel is dedicated to alternative health care and living a healthy lifestyle, often needing to rest to manage his condition. At age 12, Joel left sports to pursue music, DJing private events and doing live sound for bands. His parents supported his dream of building a home studio. He learned theater, audio production, and lighting by volunteering for local bands and theaters in Sonoma County. He attended the Art Quest program at Santa Rosa High School and specialized in sound design. After high school, he studied Graphic Design at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC), then Digital Audio, graduating with honors. In 2024, Joel released his solo album "Souls" and directed his first feature film, "The Director," in 2025. He's a filmmaker, audio engineer, composer, and CEO of Tech of the Coast Studios and Mastermind Productions. He plans to graduate with a degree in Film and Media Studies in 2026 and pursue a career in film/television sound.

My grandfather, Dan, lived a life rich in experiences. It was through his service in World War II, his work as an aeronautical engineer at Boeing, and his varied careers as a designer of large aircraft, a real estate agent, and a clock mason and watch repair expert, that I learned the true value of discipline and leadership. His multifaceted career not only provided me with invaluable lessons, but inspired me to pursue my career in audio and film. My grandfather’s service in World War II taught him the importance of discipline and responsibility—values that would define every part of his life. As an aeronautical engineer at Boeing, he applied his attention to detail and dedication to the design and construction of aircraft, ensuring they were both safe and efficient. These skills were passed down to me from a young age. When I was a kid, my Grandfather, Dan, taught me to fly a stunt plane, his Cesna 250, patiently explaining the intricacies of flight, mechanics, and safety. He would also show me how to repair electronics, fostering in me, a curiosity and technical aptitude that would later become foundational in my pursuit of audio engineering and filmmaking. Every Sunday, my grandfather would take me flying to different airports. These trips were about more than just aviation; they were a time for life lessons. We’d sit down for Biscuits and Gravy at small diners, where he would impart wisdom on subjects ranging from work ethic to the importance of kindness, and respect. These moments laid the groundwork for my passion for aircraft, audio technology, and the arts, inspiring me to explore not only aviation, but also the world of film and stage productions. Beyond his technical knowledge, my grandfather’s ability to lead and support shaped my character. He would often show up unannounced at my performances to cheer me on, making the effort to be present even when my parents were too busy with work. His presence reinforced the idea that leadership is about showing up for those you care about, even when it’s inconvenient. He taught me how to be a man—how to respect women, how to be generous, and how to lead a family and community with integrity. These lessons have shaped my skills and ambitions today. I now possess a diverse set of abilities in audio engineering, graphic design, video post-production, and photography. I can use a camera, edit photos, mix sound, and even compose music—all of which are essential to the world of film. I’ve worked as a sound and lighting technician in live theater and observed directors in action, learning the art of leading a team to bring a creative vision to life. My studies in digital audio and film and media at college have prepared me to pursue a career in film sound and directing. I dream of creating my own live recording and film business, helping bands with biopics and documentaries, while also telling my own life story through film. Without the influence of my grandfather, I wouldn't have the foundation I do today. His lessons in discipline, leadership, and perseverance have allowed me to overcome the struggles of being a low-income student with a disability and chronic illness. The arts have given me an escape from the daily challenges I face, and I am determined to use the lessons he taught me to not only succeed but to lead and inspire others.

From an early age, I have had a strong passion for creativity, driven by a deep love for music, sound, and visual arts. This passion has shaped my path in life and led me to pursue a career as a film director, where I can blend all of my skills into a medium that allows me to tell stories and express myself in unique ways. My journey has been far from typical—facing personal challenges with a disability and chronic illness, I’ve found solace and meaning in the arts. Through my experiences, I’ve discovered that film, sound, and the creative process are not just passions—they are essential to my well-being. I have always been fascinated by the power of sound in film. Growing up, I was drawn to music, learning how sounds fit together and how they can evoke emotion. This skill has become one of my strengths, both in mixing sound and composing music. As a sound and lighting technician for live theater, I’ve gained valuable insight into the synergy between sound, light, and storytelling. I've also had the opportunity to observe theater directors, learning how they use these elements to guide audiences through a narrative. In addition to my technical knowledge, I have developed a strong visual eye through my studies and work in graphic design and video post-production. I am proficient in using film and photo cameras, and I have a keen eye for detail, which I believe is crucial for a film director. Whether it’s crafting the perfect shot or choosing the right color palette, I enjoy bringing my visual ideas to life. My background in fine art, graphic design, and animation, which I pursued in high school through the ArtQuest program, has given me a solid foundation for visual storytelling. My specialty in sound design during that time was one of the most rewarding aspects of my education. After completing the digital audio program at my college, I shifted my focus to film and media studies, eager to expand my knowledge and pursue my goal of becoming a director. My ideal future combines my love for film and music, especially within the music industry. I dream of helping bands craft their stories through biopics and documentaries while also producing films that reflect my own life and experiences. In the long term, I aspire to start my own live recording and film business, where I can provide creative services to both the film and music industries. I envision a career that allows me to work with major film studios or television networks, contributing to film and audio projects that leave a lasting impact. Becoming a film director is not just a career choice for me; it is a calling. It’s a chance to create, inspire, and leave a lasting impact through the stories I tell. My journey so far has equipped me with the skills and drive necessary to succeed, and I am excited for the future as I continue to pursue this passion.

Stephen Curry, known for his incredible three-point shooting and transformative impact on basketball, is undoubtedly my favorite Olympic athlete. While Curry has yet to play in an Olympic Games, his extraordinary skills, work ethic, and global influence make him a perfect example of what an Olympic athlete should embody. In this essay, I will explain why Curry’s influence on the game of basketball, his commitment to excellence, and his positive role model status have led to him becoming my favorite Olympic athlete. One of the most compelling reasons I admire Steph Curry is his unparalleled skill on the basketball court. Over the past decade, Curry has revolutionized the game with his extraordinary shooting ability, particularly from three-point range. His deep, accurate shots have changed the way basketball is played at all levels, from high school to the NBA. While Curry’s influence has mainly been felt in the professional league, it’s clear that his style of play has the potential to shape future Olympic basketball teams. Should Curry ever compete in the Olympics, his shooting prowess would undoubtedly be a key asset for Team USA. His ability to consistently sink long-range shots would make him a major threat on the international stage, where the competition is fierce, and every possession matters. Beyond his skill, Curry’s commitment to his craft is one of the qualities that truly sets him apart. Throughout his career, he has faced criticism for his size and his unorthodox playing style. Despite these challenges, Curry has continuously proven his doubters wrong by pushing the limits of his potential. Curry’s success is not merely a product of natural talent but also of his unwavering dedication to his craft. This is the essence of what it means to be an Olympic athlete—someone who not only has the talent but also works tirelessly to refine that talent and compete at the highest level. Additionally, Curry’s positive attitude and leadership both on and off the court are a major reason I hold him in such high regard. In an era where many athletes are focused on personal glory, Curry stands out as a selfless player who values teamwork above individual accolades. His leadership style is characterized by humility and encouragement, which fosters a supportive environment for his teammates. When Curry plays for the Golden State Warriors, he is often seen passing the ball, creating opportunities for others. His leadership would undoubtedly be just as impactful on the Olympic stage, where team chemistry is vital to success. Curry’s approach to leadership embodies the true spirit of the Olympics, where athletes work together for a common goal. Furthermore, Curry’s philanthropic efforts and his role as a positive role model for young athletes add to his appeal. Outside of basketball, he is actively involved in charitable initiatives, particularly those aimed at improving education and providing opportunities for underprivileged youth. His charity work and his focus on using his platform for good show that he is not only an exceptional athlete but also a person of great character. In conclusion, Stephen Curry is my favorite Olympic athlete not only because of his incredible basketball skills but also because of his dedication, leadership, and positive influence both on and off the court. He embodies the true essence of what it means to be an Olympic athlete: someone who works tirelessly to reach the pinnacle of their sport while also inspiring others to do the same. Whether or not Curry ever competes in the Olympics, his legacy as a global ambassador for basketball and sportsmanship will continue to make him a hero to athletes around the world.
    Michael Valdivia Scholarship
As a disabled student with Cerebral Palsy, Pancreatitis, Allergies, and Mental Health issues on SSI with a low income, I’m working with the DOR to obtain training from my local Junior College so I can get an internship in live production, build my resume, and apply for jobs that can finance the building of my home studio business. Music has been my escape from the pain and stress of day-to-day life with a serious physical illness. I have battled crippling depression and anxiety for years. Playing guitar, producing instrumental music, and engineering audio is my escape. I think music is important to society to connect people and offer a way to cope with life. My goal is to build my own audio and video business. I have invested time, money, and work into my home studio to have top-of-the-line audio and video gear for my classes. To build my resume while going to school, I have begun volunteering for my church to film and do sound, and a local band I have been touring with for two months while attending school while taking 8 units which is a little over half of full-time student status. After the 2017 wildfire in Santa Rosa and living through the tragedy of losing so much of my community and friends, even family members, I wanted to get out of the toxic living situation I was stuck in. As a renter of a room in a house I was abused in, I left one night and took a walk. On that walk, I heard music coming from a building down the street from my house so I walked in. It was a Pentecostal Church. I started to go there. I made many friends there and began a journey where I went from church to church doing everything I could to work my way into the production team and help the community I live in. Thanks to prayer and faith I found a volunteer position with the church. I help produce the weekly service. I eventually got my new rental and reentered college. I started the audio program and maintained a 4.0 GPA, graduating in 2024 while also studying film, which I am now studying. My plan is to take my training in graphics, audio, and film and then put them together in order to do television sound and post-production. My goals for my business for 2025 are to complete my education by December and invest in everything I need to film events. Building a legacy as a member of the entertainment community in Sonoma and Marin County, I plan on creating original and popular content based on my gigs doing live sound for various bands in the area. I will post my work on Social Media so the global community can learn from it. By teaching my craft in tutorials online, I will give back to my community and pay it forward to the next person. My hard skills are there, and my soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid. If I were to continue building my film and audio business, I would be highly successful and constantly busy with projects. My drive as an audio student and now a video student has taken me from crippling anxiety and physical disability to a skilled worker who has skills making me valuable regardless of physical ability. Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
I entered college with the hope that I would understand how the universe works, and how I can take advantage of the natural laws of our environment to become a success story. As a disabled student with Cerebral Palsy, Chronic Pancreatitis, Food Allergies, and Mental Health issues on SSI with a low income, I am working with an agency called the Department of Rehabilitation to obtain training from my local Junior College so I can get an internship in live production, build my resume, and apply for jobs that can finance the building of my home studio business. Earning my degree in Digital Audio and starting my degree in Film and Media Studies is a step in the right direction toward achieving my own success. Defining success is a broad subject but my success journey is overcoming my disability to make a name for myself in the entertainment and design industries. My father is a self-made man who has his own business despite not going to college. He has made more money off of his art than anybody I have ever met and has more of an interesting lifestyle than anybody I know. He wakes up early and goes into his art gallery where he and I greet customers interested in fine art, philosophy, and world history. We have a library where people can find all kinds of rare books on subjects within the arts. Overcoming losing our home in the crash of 2008, my father rebuilt his business with my help. He paid off all debts and started over from scratch. I think being debt-free is the very definition of success, I took that to heart and now I know I never want to accumulate debt of any kind. It shaped my willingness to work hard and avoid taking out any loans but also to become a diverse person with multiple skills so I can have a better prospect of doing something in the future within the arts. I am constantly taking master classes on music and video production to develop my skills further and understand how the process works. I think it's important to understand how things work in order to be successful at doing them. From the first note on paper to the final mix, I develop projects that display creativity, talent, and skill. As a music producer and Film major, I hope to show people the way music production works and educate the next generation of talent. I have invested time, money, and work into my home studio to have top-of-the-line audio and video gear for my classes. I have industry-standard equipment and software so I can produce professional content and I am trying to get a camera for my camera classes this spring and fall. I have begun volunteering for my church to film and do sound, and a local band which I have been touring with for two months while attending school. The work experience and videos I have been taking will go on my Demo Reel and help support my ability to apply to future jobs and build my business. My hard skills are there. My soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid from the many volunteer experiences I have had. If I continue building my film and audio business, I will be highly successful and be constantly busy with projects. I have maintained a 3.37 GPA throughout college and high school and the last 4 semesters I earned a 4.0. My current success stories are my viral videos on Instagram and YouTube where I reviewed audio gear for a company and did a co-sponsored post. I got to talk about the equipment, how it is used in film and audio, the business and its role in the industry, and our relationship. I did a music video for the band that the Santa Rosa Junior College signed for 2024 with my fellow students, which is out now worldwide. This is the very definition of success. Working with the disability resources department and department of rehabilitation, I have found ways to work around my many physical and mental health limitations. I have my books made into PDFs to have them read aloud, I use a computer to do my writing and assignments, I record the lectures, and I have a notetaker for class. My professors are OK with us using notes on exams so I am always making good notes. I have put the work and dedication in, both as a student, and as a volunteer in my community, and I plan to reach my goal. I am 3 required classes from completion, taking 4 total between spring and fall. I am now working to learn Multi Camera Digital Video Production, Video Post Production, Audio Recording and Live Sound, and Graphic Design. I feel I am the best candidate for this award because I am the most likely to succeed in my community and field of study. I have overcome adversity, harassment, and poverty to make a good life for myself. I have also helped others make a good life for themselves. After the 2017 wildfire in Santa Rosa and living through the tragedy of losing so much of my community and friends, even family members, I wanted to get out of the toxic living situation I was stuck in as a renter of a room in a house I was abused in. I left one night and took a walk. On that walk, I heard music coming from a building down the street from my house so I walked in. It was a Pentecostal Church. I started to go there to hear live music, and to try to learn Spanish by learning about the bible. I made many friends and began a journey where I went from church to church doing everything I could to work my way into the production team. I plan to do live sound for the church and film the service each week. Thanks to prayer and faith I found a volunteer position with the church. I help produce the weekly service. I eventually got my new rental and reentered college maintaining a 3.37 GPA. I started the audio program and maintained a 4.0 GPA, graduating in 2024 from my first major program, Digital Audio, while also studying film, which I am now majoring in. The way I approach my education is to try to understand the way things work and then to find a way they work for me. I think it's important to understand the nature of the universe because we are a part of it and in order to understand our role, we need to understand the role of the universe around us. Redefining Victory Scholarship
It shaped my willingness to work hard and avoid taking out any loans. I have maintained a 3.37 GPA throughout college and high school and my last 4 semesters I earned a 4.0. Student Life Photography Scholarship
    Bookshelf to Big Screen Scholarship
My plan for my education is to take my training in graphics, audio, and film and then put them together to apply for a job in film or television sound and post-production. I took the most inspiration in my career pursuit by watching the Wizard of Oz. The movie and then watching the film adapted to live theater inspired me to want to enter the film and audio industry. Building a legacy as a member of the entertainment community in Sonoma and Marin County, I plan on creating original and popular content based on my gigs doing live sound for various bands in the area, whom I film and record live. I will post my content to YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook so the global community can see and watch what we are up to in our community. My plan for my future is to build my own local film and audio business providing live video production for bands, private events, and corporate clients. I am working with an agency called the Department of Rehabilitation to obtain training from my local Junior College so I can get an internship in live production, build my resume, and apply for jobs that can finance the building of my home studio. I have invested in my home studio to have top-of-the-line audio and video gear for my classes and I have industry-standard equipment and software so I can produce professional content. I have begun volunteering for my church to film and do sound, and a local band which I have been touring with for two months while attending school. The work experience and videos I have been taking will go on my Demo Reel and help support my ability to apply to future jobs and eventually build my own business. My goals for my business for 2025 are to complete my education by December and invest in everything I need to film events. I will purchase top-notch components that the industry would use so I can produce pro-level content and have what I need for my film classes. My current success stories are my viral videos online where I reviewed audio gear for a company and did a co-sponsored post. I got to talk about the equipment, how it is used in film and audio, the business and its role in the industry. Powering The Future - Whiddon Memorial Scholarship
As a disabled student with Cerebral Palsy, Chronic Pancreatitis, Food Allergies, and Mental Health issues on SSI with a low income, I am working with an agency called the Department of Rehabilitation to obtain training from my local Junior College. This way I can get an internship in live production, build my resume, and apply for jobs that can finance the building of my home studio and film business. My goal is to start my own audio and video business. My STEM related major is Film and Media Studies and a minor in Digital Audio both Technology and Production. It was a Pentecostal Spanish Church. I started to go there to hear live music, and to try to learn Spanish by learning about the bible. I made many friends and began a journey. I went from church to church, doing everything I could to work my way into the production team. I have invested time, money, and work into my home studio to have top-of-the-line audio and video gear for my classes. Through the process, I volunteered to tutor fellow students at the school library where we have a recording studio. I would meet students on my off days to go over how to do music production and review what we learned in class and in the book by doing hands-on audio production. I have industry-standard equipment and software so I can help others produce professional content. In my volunteering, I taught others how to use this gear to advance their skills in music production. My friend even graduated college on time this year because I helped tutor them last year in my program. I plan to take my training in graphics, audio, and film, put them together, and do television sound and post-production. Building a legacy as a member of the entertainment community in Sonoma and Marin County, I plan on creating original and popular content based on my gigs doing live sound for various bands in the area. My hard skills are there, and my soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid from working with the church greeting and prayer teams. If I continue building my film and audio business, I will be highly successful and constantly busy. Working with the disability resources department and DOR, I've found ways to work around my many physical and mental health limitations by training myself in technical skills with no labor required. I made many friends and began a journey where I went from church to church doing everything I could to work my way into the production team. Eventually I was placed on the camera team where I learned to film live events and developed an interest in Film production. I figured I could help my dad's art business by getting areal footage of the vineyards he is sketching for clients. Eventually I plan to do live video producrtion for the church and film the service each week. I discovered love for God, a new community of supportive people, and elevated myself out of the situation I was stuck in. Thanks to prayer and faith I found a volunteer position with the church and a team of people to help teach me how to use the drone and camera I invested in for school. Now, I help produce the weekly service. I eventually got my new rental and reentered college maintaining a 3.37 GPA. It was a Pentecostal Spanish Church. I started to go there to hear live music, and to try to learn Spanish by learning about the bible. I made many friends and began a journey where I went from church to church doing everything I could to work my way into the production team. I plan to do live sound for the church and film the service each week. I discovered love for God, a new community of supportive people, and elevated myself out of the situation I was stuck in. Thanks to prayer and faith I found a volunteer position with the church. I help produce the weekly service. I eventually got my new rental and reentered college maintaining a 3.37 GPA. I started the audio program and earned a 4.0 GPA, graduating in 2024 from my first major program, Digital Audio, while also studying film, which I am now majoring in. I plan to take my training in graphics, audio, and film, put them together, and do television sound and post-production. Building a legacy as a member of the entertainment community in Sonoma and Marin County, I plan on creating original and popular content based on my gigs doing live sound for various bands in the area. I will post my work to Social Media so the global community can learn from it. My hard skills are there, and my soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid from working with the church greeting and prayer teams. If I continue building my film and audio business, I will be highly successful and constantly busy. Working with the DRD and DOR, I've found ways to work around my many physical and mental health limitations, training myself in technical skills with no labor required. Because I have industry-standard equipment and software, I can help others produce professional content. In my volunteering, I taught others how to use this gear and similar equipment to advance their skills in music production. My friend even graduated college on time this year because I helped tutor them last year in my program. Travis Ely Collegiate Angler Memorial Scholarship
As a disabled student with Cerebral Palsy, Chronic Pancreatitis, Food Allergies, and Mental Health issues on SSI with a low income, I am working with an agency called the Department of Rehabilitation to obtain training from my local Junior College. I have overcome crippling anxiety and PTSD from medical trauma to achieve my dream of gaining my first degree and I am almost done with my second. This way I can get an internship in live production, build my resume, and apply for jobs that can finance the building of my home studio and film business. My goal is to start my own audio and video business. I have overcome adversity, harassment, and poverty to make a good life for myself. I have always loved nature, animals, and the great outdoors. I am passionate about the ocean, lakes and rivers. Wildlife dominates my thoughts. When I need to escape my mental health challenges, nothing helps quite like going to the coast with my uncle and sitting while I watch him fish. He teaches me a bit about it and I have been a few times myself but I am looking to get more into the sport. I love cooking salmon and I think it would be awesome to catch my own food. I have invested time, money, and work into my home studio to have top-of-the-line audio and video gear for my classes but I have also invested in my hobbies of camping, fishing and hiking. To stay connected to my community, I began volunteering for my church to film and do sound, and a local band I have been touring with for two months while attending school while taking 8 units which is a little over half of full-time student status. My friend I volunteer with is passionate about fishing and I tag along with him sometimes now too. After the 2017 wildfire in Santa Rosa and living through the tragedy of losing so much of my community and friends, even family members, I wanted to get out of the toxic living situation I was stuck in as a renter of a room in a house I was abused in. I plan to do live sound for the church and film the service each week. I discovered love for God, a new community of supportive people, fellow anglers, and elevated myself out of the situation I was stuck in and made new friends to get together with. Thanks to prayer and faith I found a volunteer position with the church. I help produce the weekly service. I eventually got my new rental and reentered college. I started the audio program and maintained a 4.0 GPA, graduating in 2024 from my first major program, Digital Audio, while also studying film, which I am now majoring in. To keep sane while focusing on highly technical work, I rely on fishing, hiking, camping and connecting with the world around me. It's how I stay close to my extended family despite the distance between us. I hope to learn more about angling and do more this summer.

I plan to do live sound for the church and film the service each week. I discovered love for God, a new community of supportive people, and elevated myself out of the situation I was stuck in. Thanks to prayer and faith I found a volunteer position with the church. I help produce the weekly service. I eventually got my new rental and reentered college. I started the audio program and maintained a 4.0 GPA, graduating in 2024 while also studying film, which I am now studying. I plan to take my training in graphics, audio, and film, put them together, and do television sound and post-production. Building a legacy as a member of the entertainment community in Sonoma and Marin County, I plan on creating original and popular content based on my gigs doing live sound for various bands in the area, whom I film and record live. I will post my work to YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook so the global community can see and watch what we are up to in our area. My hard skills are there, and my soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid from working with the church greeting and prayer teams. If I continue building my film and audio business, I will be highly successful and constantly busy. Working with the disability resources department and department of rehabilitation, I have found ways to work around my many physical and mental health limitations by training myself in technical skills with no labor required. Special Delivery of Dreams Scholarship
My goal is to form my own audio and video business. I have invested time, money, and work into my home studio to have top-of-the-line audio and video gear for my classes. I have industry-standard equipment and software, so I can produce professional content for my church which I'm a volunteer for. My community service is in technical skills doing audio and video production for several nonprofit causes both religious and private industry. Now, I am trying to get a camera for my Film classes this spring and fall, the camera, software for class, and accessories I need for my other class are expensive so that is what the scholarship would cover. To build my resume while going to school, I have begun volunteering for my church to film and do sound, and a local band I have been touring with for two months while attending school while taking 8 units which is a little over half of fulltime student status. It was a Pentecostal Spanish Church. I started to go there. I made many friends there and began a journey where I went from church to church doing everything I could to work my way into the production team. My soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid from the many volunteer experiences I have had. If I continue building my film and audio business, I will be highly successful and be constantly busy with projects. My hard skills are there, and my soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid. If I were to continue building my film and audio business, I would be highly successful and constantly busy with projects. The ways I have overcome addiction in my life are to quit drinking alcohol by age 23 and be an advocate for friends seeking to be sober. I worked with the SRJC Students for Recovery to overcome my addiction to prescription pain medication following a serious illness and I am now working with a doctor to obtain pain patches instead which regulate my system long term rather than taking a bunch of narcotics. Overcoming this and losing my best friend chase to an overdose, I get help from his mom to do my errands and I help his mom do hers. I have lost multiple friends to addiction and being a voice for them has been my journey. Since overcoming my addictions, instead of wasting all my money on medications, I have invested in my home studio to have top-of-the-line audio and video gear for my classes and I have industry-standard equipment and software so I can produce professional content. Working with the disability resources department and department of rehabilitation, I have found ways to work around my physical and mental limitations. I have put the work in to reach my goals to this point and I am 3 required classes from completion, taking 4 total between spring and fall. I am putting in the work, to learn Multi Camera Digital Video Production, Video Post Production, Audio Recording and Live Sound, and Graphic Design. I am the best candidate for this award because I am the most likely to succeed in my community. The attached files are still photos from films I have done about my projects in live audio and video. My plan for my education is to take my training in graphics, audio, and film and then put them together to apply for a job in film or television sound and post-production. I have begun volunteering for my church and a local band which I have been touring with for two months while attending school. The work experience and videos I have been taking will go on my Demo Reel and help support my ability to apply to future jobs and eventually build my own business. My goals for my business for 2025 are to complete my education by December and invest in everything I need to film events. From Cameras to tripods, lighting, audio accessories for the camera, a camera stabilizer, extra camera bodies and lenses, and batteries for all my gear. I will purchase top-notch components that the industry would use so I can produce pro-level content and rent my gear out to clients who hire me to use it. My hard skills are there, and my soft skills in interpersonal relationships are solid. Mental Health Profession Scholarship
I am a returning college student changing careers from Graphic Design to Film and Digital Audio. In the spring time I overcame acute pancreatitis to graduate with a 4.0 from the Digital Audio program at the SRJC and release a full-length rock album by myself worldwide on major independent distribution. I began the film program at the same time and continued my enrollment for fall 2024. I plan on graduating by the spring of 2026 with honors and another degree from the SRJC. I plan on opening my own film business and continuing my work in live and studio sound. I plan to continue teaching and eventually grow my film and recording post production business. I am a hardworking, self-starter who has consistently scored above average in college. I am planning on getting my associate's degree in film studies and transfer to a bachelor's program and then graduate school if possible. I am excited to take on this new degree program. Volunteering at my church to mix our video feed is giving me current experience in video editing, I am hoping to work with the college to build my portfolio and skill set for editing and shooting video. I plan on learning to edit my own videos and my own audio so I can start my own show on YouTube where I teach others how to record, setup a studio and use audio gear properly. I plan on being an influencer and personality online as well as a professional live and studio sound and broadcast technician. I completed a build of a home recording studio over the last two years and adding video abilities is my next goal for my home mastering business. I will edit audio and video either for a company or remote freelance in order to support myself and my passion for making music. As a student of the Film Studies program I have a ton of expensive equipment I have to pay for. Donation of scholarships would help me cover the expense of buying a quality mirrorless camera with lenses, lighting, audio gear, a green screen, drone, an action camera, and software in order to take my film classes. I have to pay for Adobe monthly, a camera, lenses, a camera case, memory cards, lighting, stands, microphones, and accessories. I am planning on investing in my career as a student at SRJC and my future business as a filmmaker, editor, and audio engineer. I plan on working hard to be a success story and building my home film capabilities, film business, and audio editing company. In order to achieve my goals, I attend regular therapy sessions and work with county mental health in order to stay on track. I have weekly therapy sessions and contact with my health team. I have always been involved in graphic design, the arts, music and animation. Ever since attending SRHS Art Quest Digital Arts program, I have been interested in making movies, animation, video games and audio recording. I want to be involved in a business that I am passionate about, knowledgeable of, and enjoy doing. Working in the film industry or television either in sound and video. Thank you for considering my application.

I aspire to be helpful and overcome adversity to succeed in life. Whether that is for the church, my audio company or in my work as a musician. I have overcome health challenges and being low income to thrive as a musician and audio engineer. I am now pursuing my degree in film sound. As a member of my church worship team, I am relied on weekly to provide excellent service to the congregation. My role is to provide video mixing and audio mixing to the church streaming division. We provide the live feed to the internet and television stations. My role as a video mixer is to choose which feed is being broadcast to the live feed. I have a choice from the computer, several live cameras, and a media player each of which will be blended with the audio feed from the live show. In my spare time I work live sound gigs for local events in Sonoma County. From graduations to private parties, I mix audio for live bands providing monitor mixes so they can hear themselves. I am often working on short films where I teach people about the gear we use in the studio and how to produce music. On my free days I can be found in the studio working on new music for film and television projects. Over the years I have helped many friends write and record original music for various projects. I have toured the country with my own band and filmed major artists as well. As a student of the Film/Television/Media studies program at the Santa Rosa Junior College and a graduate from SRJC’s Digital Audio/Commercial Music program, I know the importance of dedication, hard work, and follow through. As a part of my education in Digital Audio and Film/Television Studies I wrote and recorded then released a complete solo album, titled "Souls." I learned to market and release music at the SRJC while getting my audio degree. Beating pancreatic organ failure and making it despite being low income, I have achieved my dreams to open my own recording studio, live sound business and film production company. I am a continuing student and adult in my middle age late 30s. In my pursuit of my film career, I have enrolled in film classes at the SRJC. I completed the Digital Audio program in 2024 and plan on going into film sound in 2025. My path to education took a long time to figure out but now I am a professional at navigating the college and achieving my dreams. I hope to make my parents proud and live up to the reputation I have built with the agency sending me to college, the department of rehabilitation who helps disabled students get a job. I plan to be a success story and keep going with my passion for film and music. Thank you for your consideration. I want to perfect my skills in video and audio editing so I can do audio for video for a living. I plan on completing the video program at the SRJC within two years. I will then start working on finding jobs in the audio for video world such as television, sports, film, and media. I plan on learning to edit my own videos and my own audio so I can start my own show on YouTube where I teach others how to record, setup a studio and use audio gear properly. I plan on being an influencer and personality online as well as a professional live and studio sound and broadcast technician. My immediate goals are to save up for my own camera and lighting so I can produce my own content. I completed a build of a home recording studio over the last two years and adding video abilities is my next goal for my home mastering business. I will edit audio and video either for a company or remote freelance in order to support myself and my passion for making music.
