Bio

I am currently a senior at the University of Texas at Arlington, pursuing a dual bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management. I am on track to graduate this summer, but I have encountered a significant financial hurdle as I no longer qualify for financial assistance. The combination of credit card debt, the responsibilities of caring for my son, paying rent, and other life challenges have created an overwhelming financial strain. Despite these difficulties, I remain committed to achieving my educational goals. I am in the process of setting up a payment plan, but the stress of my financial situation is considerable. Receiving this scholarship would provide immense relief and significantly improve my mental well-being. Financial stress is a leading factor in mental overload, and alleviating this burden would allow me to focus more fully on my studies and future career. Thank you for taking the time out to review my profile. Your support would make a difference in my ability to complete my education and achieve my goals.

    Neal Hartl Memorial Sales/Marketing Scholarship
Entering the dynamic realm of sales and marketing is not merely a career choice for me; it is a passion born from a journey of overcoming adversity and a desire to create lasting change. My experiences, from immigrating to the United States from the Virgin Islands to becoming a first-generation college graduate and a devoted mother, have ignited a fervent motivation to excel in the field of marketing. The spark of my interest in sales and marketing ignited during my college journey. As the first in my family to attain a college degree, I realized the transformative power of education. This realization, coupled with my background, led me to delve into marketing—a field that encapsulates creativity, communication, and strategic thinking. The very essence of marketing revolves around crafting messages that resonate with diverse audiences, much like my personal journey and the need to navigate various cultures and challenges. Moreover, the birth of my child during my college years deepened my resolve to pursue a career in marketing. As a mother, I encountered firsthand the power of effective communication in nurturing and guiding a child. This analogy drew me closer to the world of marketing, where communication plays a pivotal role in nurturing brand-consumer relationships. I saw parallels between my role as a mother and the role of a marketer: both involve understanding needs, addressing concerns, and building meaningful connections. My experiences have instilled in me an unwavering commitment to helping others overcome challenges. In sales and marketing, I see an avenue to achieve this on a broader scale. By strategically promoting products and services that enhance people's lives, I can contribute to positive change and empower individuals to overcome obstacles, just as I have. This notion embodies my inspiration—to be a catalyst for transformation through effective communication and strategic planning. Passion drives me to continually hone my skills and knowledge in marketing. I am an avid consumer of marketing literature, staying updated with industry trends and breakthroughs. Every campaign, every advertisement, every brand story fascinates me, as they offer insights into the art of capturing attention and influencing decisions. The blend of creativity and strategy in marketing is invigorating, and I am excited to harness this power for both personal and societal growth. In conclusion, my journey from the Virgin Islands to Texas, coupled with the challenges of motherhood and education, has illuminated my path into sales and marketing. The field aligns perfectly with my innate desire to communicate effectively, connect with diverse audiences, and be a driving force behind positive change. My inspiration stems from personal experiences and a burning passion to leverage the power of marketing for the greater good. With each step I take towards my marketing degree, I am reminded of the transformative potential that this field holds—for my own journey and for the world at large.
    Barbie Dream House Scholarship
As a first-generation college student who has overcome immense challenges to pursue education, I find myself drawing inspiration from the iconic Barbie brand, which embodies ambition, empowerment, and limitless possibilities. The opportunity to bring to life my very own Barbie Dream House is not just a creative endeavor, but a manifestation of the resilience and determination that define my journey. Nestled on the edge of a pristine turquoise shoreline, my dream Barbie Dream House would find its home on a serene tropical island. The setting, reminiscent of the United States Virgin Islands where I started my journey, symbolizes both my roots and the boundless potential that lies ahead. The architecture of the house seamlessly blends modern design with elements of Caribbean culture. The exterior boasts a harmonious fusion of vibrant colors - pastel pinks, azure blues, and lush greens - mirroring the island's natural beauty. Stepping through the front door, the interior is a testament to luxury and aspiration. A grand spiral staircase adorned with intricate wrought-iron railings greets visitors, leading to a sprawling living area with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the breathtaking ocean view. In the heart of the house lies a state-of-the-art kitchen equipped with the latest culinary technology, a tribute to my passion for cooking that was nurtured during my years of balancing work and education. As a marketing graduate from The University of Texas at Arlington, I understand the significance of presentation. Thus, my dream Barbie Dream House features a walk-in closet akin to a high-end boutique, housing an array of exquisite outfits and accessories. Each ensemble tells a story, symbolizing the different facets of my journey - from the determined student to the confident professional. Moreover, a dedicated workspace with cutting-edge technology reflects my ambitions to continue excelling in the marketing industry. Venturing further into the house unveils a rooftop garden, a personal oasis where tranquility meets innovation. This space not only offers respite but also serves as a platform for hosting events that bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds. Just as I've journeyed from the Virgin Islands to Texas, this garden becomes a meeting point of cultures, where stories and dreams are shared, fostering unity and understanding. My dream Barbie Dream House transcends physicality; it's a testament to my ambition, drive, and impact. As I reflect on my journey from the Caribbean to the mainland, from part-time jobs to a marketing degree, I recognize that my aspirations resonate deeply with Barbie's legacy. Just as Barbie continues to empower individuals to be anything they desire, my dream house encapsulates the same ethos - a place where barriers are shattered, dreams are nurtured, and aspirations take flight. In conclusion, my Barbie Dream House is a reflection of the challenges I've overcome, the dreams I've nurtured, and the impact I aspire to create. From the vibrant exterior to the luxurious interior, every facet of the house tells a story of determination, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence. As a first-generation college student with a unique journey, this dream house encapsulates not only my aspirations but also my commitment to turning dreams into reality.

Civil rights include the ensuring of peoples' physical and mental integrity, life, and safety; protection from discrimination on grounds such as race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, color, age, ethnicity, religion, and disability; and individual rights such as privacy and the freedom of thought, speech, religion, press, assembly, and movement. From watching the videos, reading the websites, and doing my research on the death of Amadou Diallo, every one of these sources relates to each other. It shows us we are racially profiled and suffering from police brutality, not only as US citizens but simply as human beings. The "#SayHerName" campaign was about unrecognized black women who were killed by police brutality. None of their death was acceptable, no matter the crime they committed. I don't believe none of these victims' death needed their life taken away whether they had a criminal record, whether it was gender identity or just because of their skin color. With women being an afterthought, the lives of black men haven't carried black women stories the same way. If the stories of these black women aren't recognized, they won't be remembered. This campaign shows that women shouldn't be overlooked just because their death occurs less, we should all say their names, say their stories, and give their cases the recognition it needs. This campaign relates to the other sources to offer a more complete but not compete for a narrative about policing and race reform. The "If they gunned me down" post is also similar to the "Hell You Talmbout" because it shows pictures of multiple black people that were or could be victims of police brutality if they were racially profiled. The media is always quick to mention an individual's negativity but can never show or talk about the good deed these individuals had on their community. While reading on Amadou Diallo, it broke my heart to know that he lost his life because he was also racially profiled just for being a black man who appeared to be suspect for a "rapist." Whether he was a citizen or not, it was inhumane what these four I have learned that America policing's for the structural failure of calling the cops on certain situations police aren't trained to handle leads to death, lethal force, uncalled for behaviors, etc. When officers make a major incident like this, they should be held accountable for it not only for the murder, but officers should be added additional years for breaking their oath as a police officer. There are so many problems with police forces throughout North America. Bodycams should always be put on them, so there is proof without a reasonable doubt and the video provided to the public directly, so we know it wasn't tampered with. There needs to be a call for better screening of police officers, better training, and accountability, but the truth is there's no federal standard on how officers should be trained. The training that officers receive has little to no emphasis on empathy. You will be lucky to have an officer who can have a social interaction with you, like holding a conversation. Instead of using Cops a who are not trained to handle mental disabilities, homeless, substance abuse, it's better to find a way to deliver social services and city resources to the homeless community before someone calls the cops. Calling the cops will reduce the need for force, unnecessary arrest, deaths from officers, and lifetime grief towards families.

My mother! I wish there was a better word than the best mother ever. I was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands and growing up, was difficult coming from a low-economic background but my mother made sure that I always had everything I needed to maintain. My mother raised my two older brothers and younger and me as a single parent, occasionally with the help of my grandmother. Growing up my mother's life was tough as well, My mother was discriminated against by her siblings because of her appearance. She was born with blonde hair, green eyes they and they all had the same father, however, her appearance made her an outcast. My grandparents were Puerto Rican, and our family is very diverse in appearance. However, her appearance led to the point where her very own father sought no type of relationship with my mother during her childhood. Eventually, he took both of her sisters and her brother away from her mother and moved back to Puerto Rico. My mother withdrew from school to help her mother work and contribute to the financial responsibilities in the house by the age of 14. My grandmother got help from neighbors and her sisters they would take some food to my mother give her clothes take care of her. Later, when I was born; being the only girl I inspired my mother to go to school being her only girl, she wanted to be the best role model. My mother returned to school received her GED and found interest in being a Security Officer. My mother, later on, went through a lot of training, schools, tests, and preparation courses. Now, my mother is a supervisor in security protecting armored trucks. her job is to provide security services to banks, retailers, governments, mints, and jewelers. This has shaped my life in so many ways looking at my mother overcoming so many obstacles and being able to do what she wants. My mother has pushed every one of my siblings and to always believing in me and to work hard and endlessly to provide a foundation for my siblings and me to stand on. While I watched my mother struggled she ensured that I and my brothers had some childhood experience. My brothers played baseball, basketball, and were part of the school band. While she let me join the cheerleading team, Ballet Folklorico (Dominican republic culture dance), she even entered me in pageants. which resulted in her having to do get multiple streams of income to participate in these big pageants. So, I say, I wish there was a better word than the best mom" because she more than that I have always been inspired about my mother she isn’t the perfect mother, she’s good enough for me. She doesn’t drive a Mercedes, but she took walked and took the bus across town to we’re always present at school or our events. My mother has sacrificed so much for my sibling and me that my entire life mission is to give her the world and more because deserves it. I want to say thank you mother for raising me and establishing those values and principles in my life that I hold on to so dearly.

I am currently a Junior at the University of Texas at Arlington pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I will also be returning to UTA to attend graduate school if accepted. My goal is to become a Tax Account at a firm that shares similar values in serving our community. I get to help people understand how Federal laws have a direct impact on their daily lives. I was born in the Virgin Islands, have realized the true value of an education pursuit of Academic freedom. I also hope to motivate individuals in the U.S.V.I., that they too succeed in achieving a prominent life to flourish in knowledge to restore our community. This scholarship would be very much appreciated and allow me the opportunity to finally focus solely on my academics without the fear that I may need to put my education at a halt due to financial Hardships. Presently, I live on my own and have been unemployed due to COVID since April 2020 up until Feb 2021, It was difficult to get all the resources needed prior and this semester (Books, Connect, Etc..). I also took a loan at the ending of the semester as I had a family emergency, that required financial asiistance. This scholarship would be considered very much appreciated and allow me the opportunity to finally focus solely on my academics without the fear that I may need to put my education at a halt due to my current financial struggles. My journey through college was nothing that I envisioned it to be. There so many things, I presuppose would help me get back on track. As of right now, I’ve decided to use my younger siblings and my freedom as motivation. However, I am grateful because there aren’t many opportunities available for the younger generations back home. The education system is failing, and high school dropout rates have been evermore increasing due to violence. I was fortunate to be afforded an opportunity and have realized the true value of an education. I am forever grateful for the opportunities and life-changing experiences that the school has provided me. Soon I will be graduating and embarking on my next opportunity in life. However, it is amazing to see how much I will grow and develop professionally over the years pursuing higher education. I am a living testament that, regardless of personal background or circumstances, you can still be successful.

    Cocoa Diaries Scholarship
I was born in the U.S. Virgin Islands, to a Puerto Rican mom and Dominican Father my father's family is of African descent. my parents spoke Spanish. When I learned English I learned it in my Caribbean dialect and spoke it with a heavy Caribbean accent. I am a dark-skin girl, with thick curly hair. In the Hispanic community, I don't feel as welcome because I don't speak Spanish perfectly and often times cast aside from my family because of my skin color . I experienced many hardships, from financial instability to raging domestic violence within my household. Additionally, I didn’t have the academic resources needed to excel as our education system was underfunded, which was partially due to the corruption in government. After moving to America at the age of 15, to everyone, I am foreign or "Jamaican" (although I have never once been to Jamaica)", however, I am a U.S. Citizen, I have to mention to others that I am from the Virgin Islands because I stumble over the pronunciation of words, and I wouldn't want that to reflect on me as inadequate or unintelligent. However, no longer am I offended by people's assumptions about me. Many Americans are ignorant of their privileges, many hide behind the fact they have to acknowledge others' disadvantages so there is no need to point out their privileges and many used their privileges while acting as if they cared about others. With all of this, I still feel like everyone has a privilege to a certain extent, my privileges are I was able to actually leave the U.S. Virgin Islands and have a family member who was willing to take me. I have been on my own since the age of 17, and to others, this may seem like a disadvantage however I was a privilege to be in a country that offered me an education and opportunities regardless of the adversity on the way.
